  1. Ed, whats the difference between 4 tonnes of wet poplar as apposed to dry?
  2. Ha ha, nearly wet myself! flippin wireless internet!!
  3. I lost my internet connection, so its started all over...
  4. I'll be collecting my 044 probably next week, I'm away next weekend and doubt I'll get to him before then (he lives in a shed in middle of nowhere) so possibly not till the weekend of sept 6/7th. Anytime you want to bring it over before then though, evenings, as I'm not working in chelt for a while, I'll be furhter south so not back here till 6 ish most evenings. Today if you want to get it over with! I might even be able to go see him and then colllect yours and mine at the same time in about two weeks?
  5. Oh, ok! Thats easy, you could drop it to me (meet at M5 junction if necessary, but I'm only 2 miles further, and I'll take it to him when I go get my 044. Easy.
  6. Orange plant do genuine TW blades for £32.50+vat each http://www.timberwolfparts.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=15&idproduct=274 Saturns package deal is £149.00+vat for six plus you get the smallest tube of copper grease in the world and 6 torx bolts with rough ends.
  7. Where are you based? I'm thinking sending saws in the post may not be a good idead?
  8. Do you think its a carb problem? If so he'll fix it!
  9. The silky was not in the subaru that day!!! NOTHING of mine was in the subary that day!!!
  10. I'm going to speak to him later, I'll ask. I'm not sure how much work he wants. He sells firewood, does some forwarding, fencing etc. and fixes saws. If he would accept saws in the post then he could get a lot of work. He orders parts through the nearby stihl dealer that he works for, then I pay them for the parts so I reclaim the vat and only pay him for labour, folding! My two 020's cost £56.00 total inc parts, that for both, not each, one nearly got thrown in the skip and the other was heading for the parts dept.
  11. Its bank holiday monday and I just got a call.... It lives! Yey!
  12. Yeah it can be done. I prefer to keep mine with the heads on, especially as the polesaw now has the silky hook which is a bit more fiddly. It mostly stays in the subaru, but thats another story....
  13. Saturn make blades for every chipper, well virtually every!
  14. Cirencester.... ........its still uploading........
  15. Pete, it would have to be a massive tube to fit silky poles with an attachment on, I tried it, it will fit the poles only. But for fibre glass or allow screw/clip together it works fine. I used to use wolf tools which had clip on/off attachments before silky were widely available and these poles fitted in my tube ok. I made it out of downpipe and fitted a lock. You can just see it in this pic.
  16. Finally I have the technology to upload some old video. This is 1994, a customer made it, he was one of those amateur video buffs with a camera the size of a suitcase. Shot straight onto VHS format. Anyway he sent me a copy and its been in the attic for a long time! I finally copied it to mpg4.5idvd something or other, and its now uploading to you tube! I am not going to apologise for anything!!!!!!!! Its old style 020, whillans T22 (I don't remember owning one of those) three strand rope, never heard of rigging back then, and one of those old chippers made by Bryant and May!! Its still uploading!! Anyway I'm guessing it was a subbie job for Southern Tree Surgeons before they became Bartletts, I worked for a small company who subbed to southern and then I went to work for Bartletts full time after the change over, thats when my bad habbits really kicked in! This video isn't that bad, I'm probably quite nervous, being sent out with a groundie to do this kind of thing! Niether of us had NPTC's at this time I got my first one in 1995 and that was it until 2002! The groundie in the video is a mate from the pub who never had any NPTC's Its still up loading..........
  17. You don't need new carbs, just new diaphrams! I just learnt that. £56.00 to get two dead saws up and running again!
  18. old o66 with 24inch bar for usual stuff and 30 and 36 inch bars if required.
  19. My TW is past warranty. I've spent a fortune having it serviced by the dealer. The other day I asked them when they last changed the air filter, they looked through there records and said "we have no records of ever working on your machine". ****'s!
  20. I have one about the same age, best saw ever. It had soem issues so I took it to my Stihl/TW etc dealer. They said it was not worth fixing, they then did me a genuinly great deal on a ms460 which I like but I miss my old 044. I've recently had two dead 020's reserected by a bloke who tinkers in his shed, but is extremely experienced with stihl saws. Another stihl dealer in these parts actually take all of their stuff to him! I told him about the 044 and I took it to him in its cardboard coffin. He's confident it will be fine. We'll see, fingers crossed!
  21. I don't get offended mate, and I knew you referring to your sentence!
  22. Well I don't mind as long as the blades are ok. We've got a great little machinist company here that I need to go and see about some stuff. They have nearly every nut and bolt you can think of and they are priced in pence each. I'll see if they carry them, I know I've seen hex bolts in there stores not sure about torx.....
  23. I'm with you on that, if only scarpa made some boots that actually looked like chainsaw boots!
  24. here you can just see how they've filed the top edge.
