  1. Waht are you looking for? I understood you were a groundie? If your looking to find work as that then you need other tree companies to work for so look in YP. If your settign up a tree business then thats different.
  2. My first ananlogy was going to be that a prussik is liek a reliable but not attractive girlfriend and the hitch climber was .............................. But I deleted that one! What the second pulley trick? is that when you clip the tail end into a second puley so you make a 4:1? It does work well but can be cumbersome.
  3. I just think that the advantages out weigh the disadvantages but there are disadvantages!! There are other self tendign hitches such as the helical that dont need a hitch climber pulley ( they do need a pulley of some kind) which are worth trying. Going from a prussik directly to hitch climber vt/knute in one step is like going from rambling in the cotswolds to everest without visiting north wales and then scotland then the alps etc etc. Hey, is that my best analogy yet?
  4. THree pages since eight something pm !! Jees. Welcome to the conundrum of vt/ropeguide etc. Take your time with it, and maybe watch some others use it. It will come good in the end.
  5. Do you need PL for delivering? I guess so, just hadn't thought that you would or that it would be expensive, I guess all companies need PL for whatever reason it may be. I suppose you reverse your truck/trailer into someones house, that may not be covered on vehicle insurance etc.

Beer and late nights always worked for me! Hang on a minute........its never actually worked for me!!
  7. What the PL for?? EL would depend on turnover so could vary but like pete says a small tree outfit would be around a grand.
  8. Its a bit like the thread about cool max t shirts. I think if you want good outdoor gear then go for a brand thats been doing it for years. I buy stihl saws but would buy a stihl clothing. Gore tex is good and ex army is cheap. I would pay for expensive goretex becasue the work we do gets it all dirty which ruins the breathability. I have some North Face gear made of Hyvent material. Cheaper than gore tex but more importantly it can go in the was and be reproofed easily. Works well, and fits well too as it is designed for climbing in etc.

Well done mate. I'm so happy for you. See you soon.
  10. I think he meant the AKU crodas ??
  11. I don't want a work t shirt to last too long!! I get load of cheap white each year and bin them. I like to change often. In winter I wear helly hanson which are more exe but they are covered with another layer so don't get wrecked.
  12. I'm guessign I might understand stevie better than I would you!
  13. HAve you seen real sun before! You will burn if your a tru scot! BTW are we going to understand your accent?

OMG- Stu got second!!!!!!!!!!! yey!!!! Well done to Jon. He becomes the first Brit to retain the ETCC title, great news!!!! I'm really chuffed for Stuart though! He now goes to ITCC as UK climber with Jon as ETCC climber, great all round for the boys!! Any further info on LAdies?
  15. Ok. white would be better, but if your just wearign the t shirt and nowt else (thats what I assumed when I said black is not cool) then its going ot be a hot day, so sweaty and therefore dirty, white won't stay white long. I use tesco value white t's 2 for 3 quid, and maybw use 3 a day. especially if doing two jobs, change of t shirt between jobs is a nice touch I think and another for the drive home. 10 quid for something that gonna get wrecked seems a lot, plus they should be payign you for the advertising. If its worn under something else for sweat wicking then helly are better IMO thouhg I hear the stretch airs ones are good.
  16. Black is rarely cool in my experience. If its supposed to be for some kind of performance properties then I would suggest a brand that excel at it such as helly hanson etc.
  17. rambling type canvas boots are best, with flattish soles. Scarpa pro ascent being the most common/popular
  18. Honeys also sell the Sherril bags that are betterer made and that!
  19. Anyone got any news yet? Who won etc..........?
  20. Good choice! For fuel economy they are hard to beat. I want one of those jetboil things but I know I'll get bored of buying gas cans. I've always got petrol around!!
  21. I have an MSR whisperlite, twenty years old and doing fine. Bought new pump for it this year though. I run it on unleaded straight out of the pump or from the stump grinder fuel can! Trangia are one of my favourite all round stoves cos of there practicality but they are a bit too slow to use at work. I have one that is at least 25years old, I bought it with my hard saved pocket money when I was about 14, I love it! The new ones use much thinner aluminium and seem crap although I'm sure they do the same job.

Its on the ISA website under membership benefits Member Benefits entitles members to a Discount Scheme with: - Member Benefits :: ISA UK&I Chapter Anyway its all sorted now, you need to quote the code number in stores and then show a membership card. Apparently they cant search for ISA on their system but the code will take them straight there. The code is AF-ISOA-T3 I suggest we all write this code on the back of the ISA membership card. I hope enough people make use of this, I spend a fortune in this store so I wanted to get this discount arranged for all of us (me in particular) so if we all use it enough we will keep the discount and I can get gear cheaper! But we are alloutdorrs all the time and go camping hiking etc so I hope it beneficial! Steve, if your lurking, can I start a thread to promote this or is that unfair advertising?
  24. XTC arbor gold/red white/green white/inferno/blaze/ice its all the same but different colours. If you order a mile of it you can specify any colour you want!
  25. I shouldn't post at 1.03 am !!!
