  1. I'm a bit of a larger climber and can highly recommend both the treemotion and the skylotec kolibri. Still getting the adjustment right on the motion as it keeps pinching in the groin of one leg. The Kolibri was comfy from the word go but much heavier.
  2. I'm not going to comment on the wrongs and rights of this but only offer my own opinion. Personally it was nice to see someone putting one of these foul mouthed, ignorant, arrogant cocky little gits in their place and without it resulting in a punch up or big slagging match. I don't care if the big fella wouldn't have dealt to the fare dodger if he was bigger, he dealt to this one and that's one less ignorant prick on the train.
  3. Ha, that's the problem with working seven days a week Adam, I keep missing these things.
  4. Not sure if this has done the rounds on Arbtalk yet but my mate just put it up on his facebook page and I thought it was worth a post on here.
  5. No idea what CS41 entails. Anyone enlighten me?
  6. I'm happy to pay 250 to 300 quid (my last pair in NZ were $800) and have them last a life time of abuse rather than some cheap crap that breaks half way up a big Gum barrel. Not something I like the thought of.
  7. The climber should know better. He's the boss and it's his neck on the block. I should have read the comments before posting my last comment.
  8. Sorry if this has already been covered but I haven't had time to read the whole thread. Question is; how much experience the groundy had, how much experience the climber had. Was this maybe one of the first times the groundy had been on a large dismantle job like this and if so, was his training adequate for the situation. were clear instructions given or discussed beforehand as to what the job process was and how the groundy was to react should something go wrong. Sounds like common sense but imagine being a newby on a job like that and having very little understanding of weights, dynamics, movements etc. Imagine then, worst case scenario, the climber goes hell for leather without telling his groundy what to expect. I've seen it before, almost the same kind of thing, when a big chunk of gum was supposed to be lowered (and let run freely to the floor) but too many wraps around the lowering device meant the wood dropped and swung back in to the tree knocking the climber off his spikes. The cause was insufficient experience on the groundies part and a lack of pre job planning and explanation on the climbers part. Result? The groundy had more training and was allocated to a crew with a less technical job allocation to gain more experience. The climber got a new pair of undies and a more experienced groundy.
  9. Sometimes it was just an excuse to perv on some of the prettier florists. Not allowed to do that any more though
  10. You'd be surprised what florists will pay for. A lot of the stuff we cut down every day can be used in floral works of all kinds. Contorted Willow and Hazel are favourites along with Dogwood, Holly, Ivy, Magnolia, Honeysuckle and Jasmine etc. If it looks pretty or different they can probably use it. If you have a local florist or two it's worth having a quick yarn. You might not make a whole heap of money but the odd freebie bouquet for the wife doesn't hurt now does it?
  11. Love how the camera makes it look like you're 50 feet up until you see the debris hitting the deck. Haven't had chance to get my camera out yet but hoping for a thrash out on the lake in the Kayak so might test drive it then. Keep em coming Adam.
  12. You, or your friend, are indeed correct although the theory has to be checked, rechecked and proven. Could be interesting though.
  13. The wife's a florist, she'll take all she can get, even better with the berries on. Pointed or smooth, doesn't matter.
  14. Same same. Had one real nasty bug that got through but otherwise it's been way better than all the other anti virus I tried.
  15. Been there, done that, totalled bike, bumps and bruises and a small break for me, busted bonnet (from my fat ass rolling across it) for him. Fortunately the third party accepted all liability from the get go. Glad to hear he's OK. The insurance should cover the bike but her attitude just plain sucks. Even if no first aid was required she could have and should have stayed with him to ensure he wasn't in shock. Something smells decidely fishy to me.
  16. Pah, who needs sunlight anyway.
  17. Odd weekend for us. 30 degrees in Alexandra yet precipitarily persisting at my place necessitating the lighting of fire last night and two decent earthquakes thrown in for fun. No snow though.
  18. I purposefully threw some in my firewood pile last year to see what it was like. Burns fast but reasonably hot. Great for kindling and getting the fire up to speed before throwing on the heavy duty burners.
  19. Got mine from Urban Edge in Taupo. I don't have a Mac so I might have to re read the thread and figure out what to use
  20. Shouldn't this be a job for your insurance to sort out?
  21. Adam, picked up the same one myself the other day. Couldn't afford the Hero 2 and didn't have the paitience to wait for it to arrive from the US. Let me know how you get on with the editing and what software you use if you'd be so kind.
  22. ecotreecare I think this story is BS. It never gets to 30+ degrees in Dunedin
  23. The beer can and books are great. Look forward to seeing the owl once you've sussed the eyes.
  24. Now come on Hama, don't be like that
  25. There are two discussions going on here. The first is should Clarkson be given the boot for his comments and the second is the value of public sector workers and the strike action. I'll just comment on the first as I know sweet fanny adams about the second. Personally I believe we have become to PC about what people say and take it to much to heart. I'm sure many of us during the working day say stuff that, if it was posted in the media, would have us all hung out to dry. I don't have a problem with Clarkson shouting his mouth, off in most cases he says what many of us think. Even if we don't agree with what he has to say why sweat it? Sometime we get way to wrapped up in what is generally nothing more than words. Do we really think he was serious about shooting all the strikers? On an aside; we have just had one of our radio shock jocks say something very similar about the media (especially the likes of The News of the world) and although there were some comments made (funnily enough, by the media) most people didn't give it a second thought. Now is that because the comment was directed at the media who we probably don't regard as highly as public sector workers?
