  1. Ino reduse and inspect some main roots you will find they have decayed by butt rotters once the main roots have decayed honey fungus will move in and do its job. I have an oak avenue with HF and as i have said before i removed a large stump and dug a 3 metre hole and planted a new oak since then 2 more have died and been felled and the HF comes every autumn the tree i planted is still healthy the secret is in the roots healthy roots healthy tree.

  4. I was out yesterday rubbing my cricket bat willows and noticed some of them had brown spots on the stems any ideas anyone? How many other people on here grow cricket bat willows? I hope it is not water mark disease.

Thanks david but therre is no way of keeping the public away they are in the hub of the garden. props may be a good idea kev to keep people safe i have got to risk assess these trees in the next few weeks and decide what to do for the best.anyone fancy an afternoon saving trees from being cut down:001_smile:
  6. At the hall i have got 2 mullberry trees must be 2 or 3 hundred years old completly hollow with c stems far too heavy on the crown and we might loose them this winter i will try and reduse them safety is a big thing as the public visit the gardens:scared1:

  10. DEAN YOU WONT BELIEVE THIS. i was cutting rides in the woods today i cut a nice wide ride at the end of a plantation went through the plantation and into the wood and onto the next wood on my return someone had tipped a lorry load of tree waste with bin bag rubbish on my nice wide ride:mad1:
  11. I have just cleared an old orchard in it is the oldest pear tree i have seen but it has no pears this year it has never been cut, would cutting it be good for it or should i leave it alone. also the same for two old bramelys many thanks for lots of advise.
  12. Shock horror i was in the park today and came across a turkey oak and it looks just like yours rupe and the fruiting bodies are around the buttress at ground level going up to a metre.

  14. may well be huntingdon elm we think we have one here because this tree just does not get dutch elm and huntingdon elm is suposed to be dutch elm resistant.

  17. Iwas in london on saturday and as i was riding on the bus i was looking at trees (how sad) and i was thinking what a good looking tree the london plane is and so well suited to the stresses of city life and as other trees were dying the planes seem to all survive to a good old age.

  20. No JCB i phoned the FC and they told me to dig as much as i could as i was planting anouther tree which has taken well but the tree next to it has just died about 12 years old:001_smile:

Burn it, i was jesting:001_smile: we have all fungi in the parkland and all stumps are left for conservation purposes. the only stump i did remove was an oak stump in the avenue with honey fungus i removed the stump and dug a 3 meter square hole and filled with top soil but it still poped up in the autumn:001_smile: around the hole oh dear.
  24. Andy where did you get the timber tongs from i also like i am going to pm you to see if we can meet i am liking your trailor ideas and would like to see in action well made mate.
  25. I think dean is right we must move into the real world, time is money and your time needs to be paid for. My brother in law is an architecht and comes across this all the time, so now you pay him for what he does if he gets planning permission and not the drawings at least he gets paid for what he has done, we need to see this sort of situ coming and have it allready worked out if we can.
