  1. [quote Got any second hand you want to get rid of! Just had a look at price!!! I wish i had, they belonged to a famous dreadlocked German climber ,i was doing some lowering for him and they were spot on .I have them on my list of things to buy but something else always seems to comes up ,maybe next year !
  2. Hi Jacko,i used the peltor lite com 3 and they're spot on the mic doesn't pick up any saw noise ,no buttons to press when you want to talk and very clear but not cheap https://www.freeworker.de/store/helme/motorsaegenhelme/peltor-lite-com-iii.html
  3. Sorry about my earlier post - my mistake as I didn't have my browser maximised. It was smaller than the Timberwolf banner ad and the page wasn't displaying properly. Looks great now though!
  4. Looking good Steve - apart from the big gap!!!
  5. And me. Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  6. http://www.last.fm/Not tree related but it's good for streaming music to have on in the background - just put your favouite artists in and it will play them and any one who sounds similar until you tell it to stop!
  7. I got my girlfriend to (reluctantly) bring back a new blower and a long reach hedgecutter, when she came out to see me once. The guy on the x ray machine had to look twice, luckily I gave her the manuals to show them what they were, this was before 911 so I dont think they would have it now though (also a cute smile helped), they wouldn't even let me bring a rope in my hand baggage when I came back from France earlier this year. Price wise back then Stihls were fairly reasonable but now with the exchange rate so crap you're probably better off shopping round over here. I havent noticed a major difference since I bought my first 020.
  8. I find that if I put a knot in the two ropes, a few inches off the ground it puts a bit of weight on the rope and holds them together for the first few metres .
  9. I was up a big leaning pine over a house, taking some weight off the crown and holding a small branch. My020 was slowing down and ran on to my arm. I was using the tail end of my rope to double anchor and it took a bit of fiddling around to undo a bow line and prussik with 1 hand to be able to get down. 2 cuts, 14 stitches and 2 hours in a German a&e silly boy i know!
  10. Are you starting to get a pile built up ready for November the 5th with that lot, we topped a 100m conifer hedge 1 year and it was next to the local village bonfire ,smoked everyone out big stile
  11. I had to modify mine, I made the rope guide stick out too far and it ended up tying itself in knots ! I'd go for 1 band rather than 2 ratchet straps (like mine) if I was making another 1 as it's a bit fiddly to put on. I still havent found any ali tube up to the job for the bollard yet ,but the search goes on! I also had to take the self tailer apart and put some spacers in so it would take the 16mm rope. Any way it's sorted now and has been handy on a few jobs. I've just taken delivery of a second hand main sheet block and jammer from a boat to use for speedline tensioning ,so no more serching for pulleys and tying knots in my rope . Good luck with yours Dean .

  13. When i worked in Germany we did a tree in the garden of a sex shop ,and we had to drag all the top and stem through the shop ,it seemed to take a bit longer than the boss thought with all the distractions !
  14. Before and after i put the chip box on .Still got .22 holes in the side after someone had a shot at them when they used to be signs !.
  15. Im not buying thats for sure!!!! I think he ment 18,000 Turkish Lira !
  16. I had a try for a while on a Petzl Grillon ,but much prefer a hitch and pully ,i just feel more in control when letting it off while lying back . But i think it's probably like a Lockjack ,you just have to get a feel for it.
  17. Nice motors ben .This is the leg irons motor i just have the landy but use this when i can, it feels like a f1 car compared to the landy and its about 50 times better on derv and 35 quid to tax for the year! ps are you off up to the vw show at Harewood House ? Were going in the Rado .My mates after some new wheels for his Storm.
  18. I've just made this one up ,it's 15 mm ali plate with a 2nd hand 2 speed Barlow self tailing winch on which i got from the "Chandlery Barge (023804063490)" they have a few in stock and are great to deal with ,i asked for Harken 46 or similar and got this for £200 ,they also have Main sheet pully blocks from yachts for around £50 which are brill for tensioning speed lines !.I hope to put a bollard on above the winch but i hav'nt found any ali tube for the job yet .The rope guide is made from 2 rings from high lift wedges with slits in oppersite sides to get the rope in ,hope to give it a proper try after me holls!
  19. Could it not have been felled when the leaf was off ?, that looks like a saleable butt. We looked at it before part of the top had blown out after a windy night. This had flattened a section of the wall, so it made the job tonnes easier and saved me sectioning it down. It's a shame about the wood, however it had been a good tree for the farmers kids over the years and was full of everything; nails, pignett and stones in crotches!
  20. Lets see the tree pics you got ! Here's my winch job from Saturday... there was power lines and buildings to avoid but it came over ok .
  21. I second that treedude, i worked for Danny for a couple of years ,loads of intresting trees to work on and no worries about getting paid, pretty central in Frankfurt but we did get further south to Kaisersleutern now and then
  22. Will you make Norfolk for the Mackerel run? I'm going sea fishing for the first time tomorrow out of Whitby , i'm a bit worried after todays wind and rain but the skipper has given it the ok ,got the waterproofs packed ,i'll have to have an early night, getting picked up @5am I'd get you some photos of my big catch but I don't have a wide angled lense for my camera!
