  1. £105 is the cost of the car and trailer test.
  2. Best wishes for a quick recovery atree. Stay safe everyone.
  3. We went on a site yesterday which was a no-card, no access on site affair. After sitting the induction, the first part of the video being no card and your off, we filled in some more paperwork and then were asked for cscs cards. I said that we didn't have them, as we were arb/forestry and not construction and we had other competancy cards, and this had never been a problem with other construction companies. We were going to be shown the door until I pointed out that the company we were working for had clarified this previously with the main contractors top brass and they were happy for us to proceed with our work, as tree surgeons were not under the construction umbrella. This however hadn't filtered down to the assistant site manager with whom we were dealing. After some debate and a couple of phone calls, he was satisfied and copied our nptc and lantra cards and was happy for us to start. If I did many of these kind of sites, I would get a card for what it costs, as this rigmarole wasted 3/4 hour working time for two men.
  4. Don't know if its just springs or axles as well. Documents no problem, just send in the new weights on the log book. Changes it to a van test though, no big deal, mines tested as a van anyway, but still 3050 kg. Just got my cog wheels turning when i saw that rig of alex01! Probably impractical, but why not stick a tracked chipper on the back of the landy and tow a tipping trailer? You'd probably be ok for weights. 1250 kg chipper on back and a couple of ramps, and tools, 2500 kg payload in the trailer. When I first got my green landy we were faffing about at Alan's and stuck a 530T in the back just to see if it would fit! It did but made it sit down a bit! Uprate the springs and you'd be legal? Bedtime anyway, early start tomoz. Cheers, Nige.
  5. Did yours come with 3500KG springs etc, or have you had it modded, Brett?
  6. Just a quick one for Dean or anyone else who'll know, What is the unladen weight of a standard single cab 130, without a tipper unit, say a pick up body on? And gross train weight of a 130 please.
  7. How many cubic metres does that container hold?
  8. If you've got a lot of thorns to chip, or are cutting a thorn hedge, cut the bottom off a plastic lemonade bottle and cut the neck down to suit your wrist size. Costs nowt and works well, looks silly, good arm protection.
  9. Never mind a stables, here's a Game Larder!
  10. Dealer or user? Depends on how much was in yer pockets when you got caught!
  11. Following on from woodpicker, but apologies for moving slightly away from Stockers original job.... A guy who subbies to me from time to time rang me today to inform me about a horse chestnut TD job he priced last year, but didn't get, had been attempted by a couple of blokes last Sunday. The neighbour, who had originally introduced the guy I know to the homeowner, rang him up to tell him that two guys had tried to dismantle a horse chestnut. They had apparantly been engaged by the occupier as they were working down the road earlier in the week. First branch off, straight through the asbestos garage roof and onto the car! Bloke's down the tree and off in the van, branch still in the roof! Who knows if those carrying out the job had insurance? Dunno who did it? The bloke with the garage/car/tree will have learnt a valuable , but expensive lesson. "Buy cheap - Buy twice!":001_tongue: This was what I heard anyway.
  12. £1,650 at Masons. http://www.masonwoodchippers.com/L63%20RAM%20LOG%20SPLITTER%20STOCK%20BIG%20PAGE.htm
  13. There's plenty of "Tree specialists" in all areas, not just ours, Frank. I can think of about 8 locally, off the top of my head. Some are more "specialist" than others. My take on it is that you are a "specialist" if you "specialise" in a particular line of work. It says "tree specialists" on my van, and I do not have a problem with that. We don't do anything other than tree work contracting. No gravelling, tarmac, block paving, lawns, ponds, fencing, landscaping, grass cutting, power washing, rubbish removing, etc, etc, etc..... Nor do I take money from customers for written reports and advice and I do not advertise that I provide that service. I am a contractor specialising in carrying out tree work, ergo, I am specialist. I doubt that the "specialists" jack of all trades have even heard of NPTC, Lantra, IPAF, etc. Stockers, I would think carefully before charging a customer for written advice if you hav'nt the right letters after your name and professional indemnity insurance to back you up. As Frank correctly points out, written advice, that a customer has paid for, has to stand up in court. My two penneth, anyway.
  14. First was If you want Blood, AC/DC on vinyl, last was Black Ice, AC/DC bought for me by the kids for xmas! (You always have a soft spot for where you popped your cherry ....!) Over 700 LP's, tapes and CD's of all kinds of stuff in between. Last one I bought was Airbourne, they sound like AC/DC!

    Tips

I've just come home from a superb day out on a local estate at a 200 bird, all driven shoot, full roast dinner, wine etc. This was a tip from the owner for making a good job of some work we did on the estate in summer, which included an awkward dismantle of a large windblown beech hung up in another tree right over the corner of his main pheasant pen. Much better tip than hard cash! ...and I'm seeing him next week to look at a load more work!
  16. Frank, that Merc your selling must be bloody quick if it can do Aldborough to Huddersfield in 50 mins!!!!
  17. Nice work Steve, and felled at the proper height too! Liked the guy with his safety flat cap, we've got one of those!
  18. I've had this before but not for a long time. Thin your oil with a bit of diesel Frank. Plenty of frost our way last few days, its cracked my car windscreen right across.
  19. What a tragedy. Condolances to his family and friends.
  20. Good trucks, I had one for 4 years, 2.4 D non turbo. I got it in a tatty state for right money and then had it done up, it was extremely reliable. I used to wind the hubs in about November and wind them out about February when shooting had finished. Well worth taking the viscous fan off and replacing with Kenlowe or similar. It paid for itself and gave the truck a little bit more go. I used to get 24.5 mpg before and 31 mpg all the time no matter how it was driven after fan conversion when it was on the road. Only sold it due to arrival of child and needed a car.
  21. Bound to be someone similar near you. He was an ex BT guy.
  22. I said you shouldn't have washed Skyhuck as hot as that, look you've shrunk him!
  23. I had one put in a couple of months ago by a private local telecoms guy for £70 all in. He drilled through the outside wall, went into the inside box, back outside, right round the other end of the house, and drilled through and fitted a new box inside. It was a tidy job at what I thought was a reasonable price.
  24. Takes summer branch drop to a new level, then....
