  1. Thanks for my hat and gloves Yvonne. Had a parcel waiting for me today after work. Thumbs up
  2. Nice and easy to cradle rig bits. Multiple slings. Easy to clip in karabiners. Shines if you catch the light right.
  3. Bowline. But double the tail back through the know so it can still be untied if needed. We found this out the hard way, if you don't its impossible to untie after dropping some chunks on it.
  4. Looking to have a tipper body fabricated from alloy/steel. Anyone recommend a fair priced fabricator. Based in Norfolk/Suffolk please.
  5. Tachyon is pretty resilient.
  6. That is the last thing you would expect. Hope he recovers well. Bet he keeps his silky close at all times when at work from now on.
  7. When you take your gloves off and realize that your hands are white and your arms are brown. When your water is warm and your sandwiches are half liquid and that kitkat you were saving is just a wafer covered in chocolate foil.
  8. That technique is a winner Sam. Good to know it has spread the globe. Hope you are well up those big trees. See you back here soon matey. p.s you'll love the slings on the rigging plate. Just make sure you get some nice long ones.
  9. well done. big thank you to Yvonne.
  10. ahh.thanks..
  11. I was told in one of Noddy's splicing courses that dyneema has a melting point of 70c that really made me lose confidence in the smaller slings. I know guys that use them as friction prussics on redirects and loopees. too much friction could get to 70c? just make sure you check your gear daily and loler it weekly then get someone to do it 6 monthly to stop the paranoia kicking in.
  12. sounds good..you got some good pics to get through.

    Tree Art Job

Will be documented on any birds nesting as it all adds to the 'ART'. The main things is that it is for the Norwich and Norfolk festival so lots of people will get a look. We're really happy to be involved.

    Tree Art Job

London fieldworks. I'll take some photos when we have done them. These are ones they've done before. The ones we are doing seem to be on a larger scale. 'Any chance you can slip a bat box in among them ??' I'll have a word or make one of my own and sneak it in. I love the idea that if any get in inhabited then they have to stay for a while. Job is in April so will post some pics up then.

    Tree Art Job

Yeah got 3 days per tree and each has a few hundred on. Going to be in 3 parks around norwich, Earlham park,Wwaterloo park and cow tower and will stay up for a couple of years. They are all fastened to one main belt that runs around the tree. No screws or nails are put into the tree.
  17. Just got 9 days work installing these after already spending a day taking measurements to design them. Going to be an interesting job and it makes a change from the norm.
  18. I got a job exactly the same as this on a TPO Aesculus. At first I thought it was the tree ive got. We applied for a limb removal even though i had told the client that this was not a good idea due to the large wound it would leave but there was evidence of the limb slowly dropping from the crown. Exactly how i imagined the council declined the removal of the limb and thankfully we have permission to reduce the limb by up to 3 meters and to thin some material out. This should at least reduce weight and leverage enough to buy some more time. I imagine they are gona want this done every 4-5 years. The home owner isnt as happy with this decision but understands that they have little choice other than appealing the councils decision but we have told them that this would be a wasted effort.
  19. Thanks for the post. Where can we find more info on the small firm AAAC.
  20. Look forward to hearing this one as the smaller company AAAC does seem appealing for us smaller firms. Good questions..I always thought it but have never asked.
  21. Had a large limb drop from a massive vet sweet chestnut on a still summers day which was interesting as it wasn't a tree we had picked up to keep an eye on. Came across a birch with what looked like bleeding canker but more yellower than normal. Didn't like the look of it so put it down to be climbed and reduced the week after. 2 days later the tree failed at the base and fell on a static caravan. had to mewp it off. The stem was highly compromised with white rot and was as soft as bread. The crown was showing no signs of stress or lack of vigor.
  22. Pamela handerson..
  23. Good work. Agree with the others that a client probably doesn't need to see so much rigging porn and also they are not interested in large bits more that the bits been rigged come down cleanly and controlled. Good to show the variety of work you do. Maybe a camera set up on a tri pod and a small sequence of a tree from start to finish.
  24. sssshhhhhhhhhh soon you will only be able to work on CE marked trees.
  25. Is an experienced climber who hasn't done a refresher coarse in 5 years still deemed as competent? Do the guys that come from these crash courses in arb, where they get taught to do the lot in 4 weeks come under the competent stamp? Even though they passed the same course I did they surely are more likely to make a mistake having learn a large amount in a small space of time without the experience to set it in the mind. I know we all make mistakes but we have to be allowed to make our own educated decisions in this industry and making some kit should (IMO) be part of that if we are deemed competent to do so. We all know we have to be so careful with insurance especially in our trade.
