  1. Agreed, no one has to use him. I have, once shown where to drop he drops repeat loads where requested and leaves a tidy stack. I am happy with what he did for me, yes a price reduction is desirable but running a 44 tonner is very expensive. I would guess no more than 6 or 7 mpg loaded, thats about £1 a mile for fuel alone. As in all things you usually pay for what you get. A
  2. There is, the better brands are marked with an arrow to show the direction of flow. A
  3. Cut to length and split now, keep undercover but allow wind to blow through, should be ready for next winter but oak will take another year. Bark is practically waterproof, very little moisture form a log escapes through it, so processed some soft a couple of years ago, felled 3 years, 6-10 inch diam, 27% a foot inside the log, 4% on the end grain. If its soft wood then you could wait another month or three, hard get it moving now. A
  4. Have a look at the Ecofan web site. http://www.ecofan.co.uk/ They do work, I will send any member here one on a sale or return basis and 90% of the fans I send out remain sold. No draught, no noise and an increase in temps at head height of 4 deg C or 10 deg F. If in doubt stand on a chair in your room a couple of hours after you have got your stove going. No fan and its hot as hell up there, fan and its the same temp as head height. A
  5. Sounds like it is a class two flue, (gas only). You need a DEFRA approved stove here with a 5 inch outlet, then you can use a 5 inch id liner. That should go down a 6.5 inch round chimney but it will be pretty tight. There is no way on earth that you will get a 6 inch ID ( so 6.25od approx) down a 6.5 inch chimney. Dont forget the cowl on the roof, that will probably need changing to a solid fuel one. Post a pic of the top of the chimney if in doubt. If no chimney and its venting through a tile on the ridge then its gas only, unlikely by the sound of it. A
  6. True, in fairness I cant say I have ever come across one, not sure that I would recognise one other than when you can see the bottom edge of the bottom liner. I did come across a 7 inch square clay lined last week that had had a large lump of the clay liner drop down the chimney, that will be done with a liner if we get the job. Putting solid fuel fumes up a gas liner is illegal. Gas fumes can go up a solid fuel liner ok but not the other way round. A
  7. No need to put a flex liner down an existing clay liner assuming its a class 1 flue, ie round or square and at least 7 inch diameter or square. Only times you may need to is if the chimney is unsound. or you cant get an airtight seal on the bottom register plate. A flexi liner does though help stove efficiency, some installers wont install without using a liner. Certainly not illegal though. A
  8. In that case if nothing comes of this thread and you are intending to keep the machine I would bite the bullet and buy a new one from Fuelwood. Wont take many minutes to install as and when the existing one fails. A
  9. I would go and have a look at the timber and his van, measure the volume of the cargo area and there you are. Transits used to have a max cargo weight of 35 cwt, ie 1.75 tons, thats maybe 3 cube tops. A
  10. Is it not weldable then?. A
  11. Air flow is crucial. I process into firewood bags, these are vented to allow air flow ( builders bags are not). and stacked on pallets. In a bulk heap then get as much air flow through it as you can while keeping the rain off. I did not put my bulk heap on pallets as it makes loading with a bulk shovel hard but it was on a concrete floor. Sycamore will tend to go mouldy anyway especially in conditions like we have had for the last 9 months. A
  12. This year I tried some blue stuff that consists of small balls, seems to have little effect. I find the red treated wheat does the best job. A
  13. Roe in the Southern Counties, thats big money as the deer are of very high quality. cant see you being besieged with offers but it only needs the one, good luck. A
  14. I usually shoot woodcock if safe but a lot don't and thats fair enough. The game conservancy I hear have advised that woodcock have had a hard time this year, I have noticed we only see one or two a day, so I have asked my guns to give them a free pass this year. A
  15. I assume you are looking to buy at this price and are asking advice on the wisdom of such. If alternately you are looking to sell I would also be interested in some depending on how far away you are. A
  16. That does not sound to bad, remember its tax deductible against profits, maybe at 100%. I assume you have worn your exiting one out, probably need to be made from Hardox ?. A
  17. To far for me I am afraid. A
  18. In this wet winter I have been sending logs out at 18-20% with an odd one a bit higher. I have therefore been experimenting with my showroom stove burning pop at 25%-35%. It can be done and looks ok, it just takes a lot more air than usually applied and you need to keep stoking as soon have you have room to get more fuel in as opposed to when its burnt down. A
  19. Customers are becoming more educated thanks tro the web and the better quality stove shops who do the whole job, advise, educate, sell the stove, sell the fuel. Personally I think this is a good thing and am working myself toward achieving recognised quality standards of quality, Hetas.woodsure or the Biomas energy center who knows which one to go for at present. My logs achieve the standard but I dont have enough volume at present to make such registration viable but I am putting the paper trail into place. A A
  20. Cutting my shooting down year on year, used to do 18-20 days a year. This year so far I have done 5 days with a syndicate that I run here with another 3 to go, one here and two guest days, all running on consecutive days. Then I can get on with some trapping. A
  21. Poison every time, use bait dispensers AND bank cash bags filled with poison that are the stuffed down rat holes WITH A STICK. Dont forget that rats can carry Weils disease, this can be fatal to humans if it enters the blood stream perhaps through a cut. So always wear gloves when messing about with rats. Have occasionally trimmed them up with a 22LR semi when waiting for something else to turn up. Had a stoat in a rat hole one morning, rats running everywhere, went through a banana mag in no time then the stoat appeared and was added to the bag. A
  22. I would be very concerned about the amount of space it would take up on a delivery truck but I conceded that it would be reasonable in bone hard ground as shown in the video. Not much good in our current swamp conditions I would imagine. A
  23. Agreed. If you buy one after spending a week or two on it please post a review of the machine here as its a new model. A
  24. Why do you prefer to sell 80x80x80 bags for £60 when you could sell 110 x 90 x100 for double that. More money to cover the haulage costs to the customer, I do appreciate that some don't have £120 to spend but can run to £60. I suppose you can get them two wide on a transit or IFW trailer and then make the same. A
  25. That old Volvo certainly gets around !!. A
