  1. I think running an arb firm must be one of the most straightforward to run. I'd stick to what you know Dave. Like has been mentioned earlier I would try giving a bit of responsibility (respect) to your employees, they might suprise you. A transit and chipper with a couple of lads doing hedges, smaller jobs while you and another carry out the more technical stuff will be far easier to manage and make money from than trying an entirely alien project.

    It fits!

Out of interest where did you stow the ramps when on the road?
  3. You can try Treeshape, http://www.treeshape.co.uk/, they have tractor and ASV Mount, I beleieve they're both capable machines.
  4. Only these Matt. We've been flat out so I havn't had the chance to take any decent pics of anything. I wouldn't mind but we're doing some very interesting jobs at the moment. I'll try and get some next week of the excavator in the pic with the grab on working along side the mulcher next week How are you dong, I hear your no longer with AHS?
  5. You mean the time the U1200 went down to the axles at 3 o clock on a friday, so me and one the lads drove an hour to pull him out with the U1500 only to get that stuck as well. You and your brother bailed us out big time that night.
  6. They did make the mog (and crane) look like toys when parked side by side. Out of interest where would be the best place to find a used Z crane?
  7. Cheers mate, found a couple more photos. U1200 with winch on droppiing stems and U1500 stacking up ready for timber lorries coming to collect.
  8. I've just got a big cousin for them, a 26tonne hookloader with a 14t pm crane. I do like yours a lot, but thats a lot of money to have tied up in one machine mate.
  9. I hope this works I've never uploaded pics before! Our U1200 with schliesling 440 and U1500 with Jonsered Timber crane and Fortuna trailer on dismantling job. Sorry abouth the quality its the only pic of them I have on my laptop
  10. Its going well Daz, the dismantlings fine its the extraction thats going to be interesting.

    CSCS cards.

It all depends who you are working for, some will insist on it and won't let anyone who doesn't have it on site. Its straightforward to get, online application form, date at local test centre to do touchscreen multiple test on very basic H&S (takes 20 mins) and then a photo with your pass certificate. I think its less than a hundred quid with the registration but not sure. Go through CITB website.
  12. It all goes into the bags or load with us, customers like it to get the fire going when first lighting up.
  13. We had a similar incident 2 years ago, our valmet turning right with 2 cars behind both who see the indicator and wait for the tractor to turn. Over the brow of a hill comes a saxo Gti with 2 yong lads in and they don't see the indicator for the other 2 cars in front and decide to overtake everyone just as the tractor turns and then one big bang! They luckily got away with cuts and bruises, Saxo was a right off, and the tractor needed the step straightening out. It could have been a lot worse.
  14. Congratulations on getting engaged mate, if your having a night out let me know! Your foot probably smells better now than it ever did with your chanisaw boots on. This year I'm going to try and do loads of stuff, I've had a fortnight off watching tv, DVD's and surfing the net for interesting things to do. If the moneyn keeps coming in i'm going to do the lot.
  15. How do pete, thanks for posting those pics on my facebook page mate, I'll get round to learning how to do it myself one day. Was the tree in the vid in West Park?
  16. Happy new year everyone, I you all the best for 2009!
  17. We're back on the 5th, its been great to have a long break like this.
  18. That'll be Ravensworth Nurseries I take it, we did a big job on the A66 taking out dangerous trees from Scotch Corner to the Cumbrian border. They took all the timber. This was great for us as we were working nightshift and just came and went as we pleased dropping timber by the big Bandit. He told me the boiler and Bandit were going to save him a fortune in heating costs, the glasshouses apparently could get through £500's worth of heating oil per night,a nd that was around ttree or four years ago before the price of oil went through the roof.
  19. Its bedding for stock I think, we gave him a few loads of G50 and some from our yard, but it was no good, not large enough chips as it broke down too easlily and turned to mush, there is a guy in scotland with a large laimet (I think) that will produce suitable chip, but I've never looked any further into it as yet. Where abouts are you based?
  20. Thanks mate, a lot of the larger gear is hired in as and when from some very good subbies. We did do the job at Middleton Lodge mate, would that be James Allison or his dad, quarry owners. We dismantled some large beech trees around the grounds, it was a nice job in a nice place for nice people. James is a really nice bloke and very down to earth. Isn't that place rented out for period drama's and the like, I seem to remember when I priced it there were lots of people in 18th century costume wandering around the grounds.
  21. I agree, it been frustrating because when you go into ACP's top office and see the hundreds if not thousands of pics on the pc of machines the've built for our industry it makes you mind start racing about what the possiblilites are. The new site lets you know a little bit more about what they're capable of doing but it still only scratches the surface. by the way I've just had our site refreshed if anyone want's to have a look. http://www.premiertreeservices.co.uk
  22. Congratulations to all of you, you'll be walking in the air for a while I bet.
  23. Its about time he had a decent site.

    call out

No mate, we are paid a nominal fee to be on 'standby' and then we get the £90 per hour from when the call is made, its just how the contract is ste up. We need to be on site within 2 hours, which isn't usually a problem unless its unexpected and your out with the family for the day, which can be a real pain inthe arse.
