    free wood chip

We took our telehandler to Huddersfield to clear the woodchip from our job down there, arranged for with AHS for lorry to be there between 10 and 11 am and he finally showed up at 2pm, I'm trying to claim some downtime, as Jenkinsons do the same if they are slow to get loaded. I wouldn't mind but its 210 mile trip, and to top it off someone stole a good chunk of the timber from the compound which had been sold to a firewood merchant, so not a good day on Thurdsay really.
  2. There are some very experienced people on here, I'm just a newcomer, started helping out my uncle with his firewood and woodland thinning while at school and then went to college to study at 18, I'm now 32 and couldn't see myself doing anything else, apart from pro enduro rider if someone offered me a contract, Would anyone like to offer me a pro enduro riding contract?
  3. We have had one for 4 years and love it. Powerful enough for most stumps, economical, fairly manourvarable, wel built and easy to tow.
  4. It works whatever scale you work at, I've had two customers call today asking for bills, one small private job, an old dear who wants to pay her bill and a client who wants to invoice their client but need our bill and thats for a very large job. If you keep everything in moderation you will be fine, usually.
  5. Doubled the tunover and staff numbers mate, the profits were actually up higher in relation to the turnover because we are working more effeciently for better paying customers and have cut out the worst customers who are always trying to beat you down on cost or are slow at paying. We still have odd hicups, but they are now few and far between.
  6. Turn over is vanity, profit is sanity and cash flow is king. Damm right, Following our accreediatations we now make better profits have better cash flow and have doubled in size in 3 years which is exacly what I set out to do. You can keep Mrs Miggins hedges for me, I'll concentrate on the larger jobs which help keep me in the manner I'm accustomed to! LOL.
  7. We use riskdisc and its not let us down in providing infomormation on a company (although it is s little slow to be updated I believe). They may have a good rating and avoid county court judgments but the people who have warned you about them may not have laid their terms down clearly in writing and the client may be captilalising on this. If your quote is clear and to the letter with stated payment terms and and they give a written order you are much more likely to get paid on time an if not any solicitor will get it for you for a nominal fee. Providing the client doesn't go into liquidation first which is what happened to us recently when we were took for nearly £5k Talk to them, let them know they have reputation and you have concerns and ask them to explain, it won't do any harm imo.
  8. I'd go for it Matt, its fairly stressful to do just like any other PQQ, but once its done you just need to send them up to date insurances and other docs every year. Its not really pass / fail either you give them all the info, if theres anything short or needs more detail they just ask for it and then your registered on the database. I went through the same as what Dave is now a few years back, we got a consultant in and put systems and procedures in place, we got AAAC and ISO 9001 with the intention of going straight onto iso 14000 and OHAS 18000 and Achillies but I just could not take the stress and wanted to concentrate on getting some work done. The accreditations add a lot of weight when tendering for work especially with LA's but you still need to be competitive. Constructionline is a good start in getting your docs in order and getting a badge for your letterhead, lol, let me know if need any info Matt and good luck with it.
  9. I've seen a few different makes in magazines and stuff and would look at any make if it was the right machine. I have spoke to Alex on numerous occasions about mounting a HM 8 400 on a 5 tonne excavator chassis or marroka dumper with crane and donkey engine, but I always go away and think about it and think theres probably a better idea somewhere. Sometimes I just wish I could stop thinking about stuff like this, It stops me getting to sleep.
  10. I know mate, I'm not wanting it for fuel chip production so it wont be sat at the side of a load of brash having all sorts put through it via an in-feed conveyor, its mainly for large dismantling and smaller scale site clearances to reduce workload on staff. I think the drum chippers are a bit clumsy for this but if I could get a smaller heizo, direct feed and extended discharge I would prefer it. I think I need to speak to Alex again for about the 30th time about this.
  11. Does anyone have any experience of the larger disc chippers, especially the TP 270,280 or 400k models. I'm thinking of a reverse drive tractor with 3pl mounted crane fed chipper, it would need to blow over the tractor cab and into a trailer or other vehicles and have direct in feed, i.e. not at a right angle for working in confined spaces. Any thoughts would be welcome,
  12. Your can count me in Steve. Top idea.
  13. Sorry to hear your having problems bud. Is it defo terminal damage. I have my mogs on an operators licence and the garage who do my maintenance checks can carry out most repairs and servicing for anything above that I use Alex Price, hes not the chapest but he is honest and very knowledgeable and also fairly quiet at the moment so you may be able to negotiate a deal (then again maybe not). Let me know if you me want my numbers so you can speak to them. Let me know
  14. We have been awarded another job in a park outisde our normal working area (see Firewood in Glasgow Thread). We will have a decent quantity of firewood and woodchip available if anyone is interested, mainly ash and sycamore. If anyones intersted give me a call on 07881 803584 Cheers, Steve
  15. There like rocking horse poo used, and new there around £20k - £30k. I've been looking for an affordable one for my 6x4 lorry but can't find one anywhere.
  16. What model is that rhd one, it looks very smart. SWB are you planning on mounting a crane on your existing mog or getting another. You could keep the front mount chipper, put a Z crane on the back, maybe even keep the rear 3pl and get a mueller / fortuna trailer, that would be nice.
  17. There was one for sale by woodmad not so long ago, a very nice looking machine as well.

    Mog Pics For SWB

salcey??is that the previous owners or a useless operator that lost them?more pics man, i take it you dont use the rear linkages then or use chippers to the rear, seems such a shame..i knew i recognised that mog Where have seen the mog before Stevie?, Salcey are the company who commsioned Alex to build the trailer, it originally had a laimet chipper on the linkage at the back I believe, the other one he built had a 550 schlielsling!! I don't have the trailer anymore mate and I never saw the 3pl and pto in action but yes we do chip into our new trailer and load timber, plant etc. I don't have many pics on my home computer, but we do carry tracked chippers, chip, rootballs timber etc in our fortuna. Its had a bit of a rough time really as I think its really designed for silage or corn, not being loaded with timber etc.

    Mog Pics For SWB

That is one of the trailers, PTO shaft down cetnre of trailer, rear hydraulics to power detachable 3 pl on the back, shame salcey lost the arms. It was going to be a head-ache re-fabricating them so we didn't bother. The other one Alex built went to Roots n Shoots, I believe based somewhere down south. A pic of the crane being used
  20. Pics of Mogs and trailers for SWB. Not sure what order there in but: U1500 being collected from AC Price with 1st trailer we had. De-mount chip box, removable bolsters and hydraulically extending rear bed to give and extra load space. Pic of Valmet wiching timber from ravene and U1500 with bolsters collecting it. Pic of U1000 with Botex 560 / 11 tonne timber trailer, (not good on a mog)
  21. Its always hard when someone or something you like leaves isn't it. What are you going to replace it with and is that the lorry the guy who Alex Price uses, it just looks familiar.
  22. Sorry mate, I took my expensive camera with every intention of taking loads of pics, but never got a spare moment. We were starting at 7.30am and working through until 8 or 9 at night. The job was planned to be carrid out by 7 staff over 5 days, in the end because we had a lot on, 4 of us did the job in 4 days, but it wasn't paricualry enjoyable, I was looking forward to few nights out in Glasgow but we were all too knackered and apprehensive about the next day's graft to enjoy it. I'll dig out some photo's of the Mogs if you like and put them up in the pic forum.
  23. Thanks for good feedback everyone. The job went very well although we worked long hours and very hard work. I think we've secured another job in a park in Huddersfield where we will be doing the same thing if possible, Thanks, Steve
  24. No, they still ring in weekly trying to buy chip but I get a lot more for it from local landscapers. James wanted to bring the chipper to our site and it would of been nice to get somthing back for the chip but that would of meant felling everything by hand and we didn't have the time so it all went under the mulcher, again.
