  1. Sounds a good idea to me. If you can make the figures add up, theres a lot of us out there that would be more than happy just to get rid of waste for nothing. Thats if I understand correctly?
  2. Being classed as non-essential by the vat office may not mean the same thing as being required safety equipment by specific industry regulators, i.e. maybe they come under trousers at the VAT office. I can't say that i wouldn't ware them if it wasn't required, they're just a common sense safety precaution. and I agree they should be VAT exempt, hence the thread.
  3. I thought it was something like that, just interested to know if anyone has the facts.
  4. As above: Why is it we pay VAT on Chainsaw Trousers but not boots and helmets?
  5. Not working today then??

  6. i've found that 441's have problems with the anti vibration busher at the front particularly when used with bigger bars. 361 top saw expensive £ for power but light nice antivibe and with run an 18" all day long. If your looking at 441s might be worth spending a few quid more on a 460 better power to weight ratio and not much heavier, no nice anti vibe though but boom proof design. If your still reading this i'm impressed and i could go on all night. Well that my two penny's worth hope it helps.
  7. Honey brother had them in last time i was there
  8. Still a very good college with great resources and staff. When I was there I found the more you put in the more you get back.
  9. the problem I've found with Arboricultural services is the majority don't even not what Arboriculture is or what a Arborist does. If i say I'm a tree surgeon most people know what i mean but, i feel, its a bit outdated and not in line with modern Arboriculture. I welcome opinions though hence the poll.
  10. aready set up the poll but good point
  11. Which suffix do you think works? (i.e. UK Tree Surgeons): Tree Care Tree Surgeons Tree Surgery Arboricultural Services Tree Services
  12. stihl for reliability and simplicity. Although Huskys have great anti vibration they're just a bugger to work on.
  13. haha, is that supposed to be a nice way of putting it.
  14. Suzuki SJ413 Upgrade of the 410. 2" lift and mud terrains, would go anywhere but no where fast and when it rained hard you got wet feet.
  15. I agree with you there rupe using the casualty’s line did prove to be very effective in some instances. However I felt that the difficulty came from having to lift the casualty onto your system, being more complicated and needing a lot of gear. Also its worth remembering in a real situation the casualties line may well be the only line in the tree and if Paul had his way I think it would have been the only feasible option. Having said that I was surprised at how many people did use the casualty’s line, some were very effective and good to watch with some innovative techniques.
  16. What are morals, I'm a topper and lopper. Seriously though I'd like to no how many companies make the effort to work at the ideal time, based on susceptibility to fungi (i.e. silverleaf), energy levels etc.
  17. As I understood it, the trees stored energy levels are at there lowest during bud break. As John said, by waiting until the leaves have fully developed the tree will have a higher energy production and therefore be able to compartmentalize the wounds more effectively. If the tree is in decline I would attempt to delay the work until mid spring. I don't know about everyone else but I feel that often these things are impractical in the real world. That my 2p worth anyway.
  18. hey rhys, hows it going back home.

Just woundering what, in the way of work, you'd have for me during march.

    Thanks

    Jon

  19. Thanks very much, didn't expect to win. Will have to make sure I order something now.
  20. The other day a 14 year old was telling me of a friend of his that was sueing his school for being slow to recognize his ADHD. This would mean he was planning to sue the "state funded" school for putting up with his bad behavior and then giving him an excuse for said behavior. The though makes me sick, whether its true is another matter
  21. The majority of my work is for T and S Tree Surgeon, based in Guildford.

I also do the tree work for a landscape gardener I've know for a long time and private work for/with Ben Harding (Shaggy)

I also do work of Tree Craft in Kent although this is occasional due to the distance.

  22. Hi All I'll get straight to the point. I'm currently working as a self employed "Tree Surgeon". Irritatingly the credit crunch/lead up to Christmas has already started to effect the company that provides the majority of my work. I'm based near Guildford and am on the look out for work in the Surrey area. I'm NPTC qualified with CS 30, 31 and 31 as well as Aerial Rescue I have also got CS47 chainsaw use from a MEWP I finished my National Diploma in Arboriculture last year and have approximately one years industry experience. I have my own climbing kit and 200t and a full clean drivers license, unfortunately its post 97. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Please just PM me or email me at [email protected] for more information. Thanks Jon
  23. Good to hear your enjoying the work I wouldn't mind a bit more mental stimulation in my everyday work. However its not all bad and I enjoy a lot of what I'm doing although work is slowing due to the current economic climate which may prove to be a problem as I still don't have that many contacts for work. Keep up the good work, ill no doubt hear from you soon. Jon

  24. Glad to know my point wasn't completely unfounded. Likewise Hows the job going? As interesting as you'd hoped?
