  1. O.K... I've been googling around to find info on chipper incidents. Almost nothing from the U.K in recent years that is publicly available. I get the impression from reading on State side forums that there are many older chipper designs still in use, ones which lack some of the safety features of U.K versions. Perhaps Easy Lift Guy can tell us more...? Ty
  2. Shaun Talbot talks about the accident in which he lost an arm (From The Northern Echo)
  3. I'm browsing for info: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg278.pdf
  4. With respect Ben and I don't mean this personally but urban hearsay is not fact. "My uncles mates cousin friends girlfriends boyfriend lost a head in a chipper" will do the rounds no doubt. Often its the same story gone Jackanory and before you know it we all know of some-one when actually its no-one. Do we actually have statistics? Sources of info? Who collates this info? Its like other myth, the "one third of us will die of cancer" Well blow me, I think I'll just jump into the chipper tomorrow or brush my teeth with a 200t. I have a very healthy respect for chippers, in fact I have a regular recurring nightmare in which a gang of gypsies throw my terrier into one and I can't kill them because they are protected by law as thieving and killing is their Socialist Government given right as an ethnic minority. I'm not mad...really. Ty
  5. I have the same issues with the CS100 torx bolts. They are just not man enough. It is, I have found, the sap and resin that glues the buggers in at the head not rust on the thread. I drill the head a bit then use a chisel/screw driver to turn them. It always works but G.M sell these bolts at a premium... don't you Pete..
  6. BUT... What about U.K accidents? I don't recall reading on this forum about too many... Having said that, I left a French company after 2 months employment and one of the reasons was that the level of H@S was frightenly low. I recall the big Saelin 50hp shredder and a worker in the hopper kicking lumps of wood into the feed rollers. Top handles used for everything and silky saws just laughed at. So, is the U.K better educated in these matters? Also, don't forget the sheer size of the U.S.A population wise, so figures can taken out of proportion quite easily. Ty
  7. Ah, the Kenwood drum chipper...
  8. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji_-m_ylq10]Worker pulled through woodchipper - YouTube[/ame] I found this on Youtube. Don't worry, its not gruesome, its the investigation. TY
  9. Does any-one recall the last time the U.K experienced such an accident? Ty
  10. Like I said, 'cost' price of machine... I add travel and wages etc after. Ty
  11. Also, I do a either a full grind, chasing out every large root near the surface and getting every piece of root plate out OR just do a cosmetic grind enough to sow grass over, say 20cm. Yes, the clay and debris under the cutter wheel housing really caught me out the other day, thought I was losing power and got worried until I scraped it off with a long screwdriver. It was hard and fibrous and a devil to knock off. I'm charging out at 500euros plus vat. I love grinding, I love money full stop! Ty
  12. Give time for your spots to clear up too... (Can't stand young groundies squeezing zits into my rear view mirrors:thumbdown:)
  13. I'd rather use a silky than a fisher price echo echo echo echo..... Ty
  14. I have invested in cycle shops, asian stock exchanges, building societies and Iceland:blushing: All have been mediocre. Other than property best investment I have ever made is me. I sold what little I had to sell and set up in business without any sword of Damocles hanging over me in the form of finance repayments. I cut all my outgoings down and moved into a smaller property. From this solid and viable base I re-launched my business. It would be a sad day I couldn't meet what few outgoings I have. Ty
  15. Hello, If you can't source one then we could perhaps help although we use one and its a feeble thing compared to the 200t. However, I like using it because its lightweight. Seems a lot of trouble though for a few euros saving... Almost every thing we buy is from the U.K and typical saving is 25% over the French prices. Ty
  16. Yes, I am rather brilliant, thank you for recognising it:001_cool:
  17. Hello, I got my tickets paid for by HMRC by claiming working persons tax credit for a 30hr week. Bet its all changed since 2008. Worth trying though. Ty
  18. The lack of heating in Kiwi houses was maddening for me! They just wrap up warm instead the green B@$^#$%s... I love to relax in front of a blazing stove. Ty
  19. So...Koi carp constipation then...? Ty
  20. I have to ask... Why use a big chipper these days when firewood commands such a premium? I get by (just) using a CS100 wee chipper on this basis. Todays job was an example. Dismantle of a pollarded Sugar maple with 4 stems. All the branch wood dead straight and easy meat for the 30cm blades on the chipper. Anything over 6cm was firewood. As a cord (3m3) costs around 200euros and the job cost 375euros, our client ended up with a job heavily subsidized by the waste as fire wood. PLUS I sold the chips for 25euros locally. So why use a really big chipper? Ty
  21. Funnily enough, that was taken after last Wednesdays job at the holiday home for a Church of Scotland Rev. I was tempted to send Rev a copy when I emailed the bill... So... saw dust is Gods work eh? Less sweeping up for me then!
  22. What does etiquette or even the law say about saw dust...? I once watched as my boss paid Mr Angry neighbour of Emsworth a tenner to have his BMW washed. I have just had similar today regarding washing on a line but got away with an apology and a smile. You'd have thought the cheesed of neighbours would have been glad not to have to sweep up anymore leaves! Ty
  23. I know. I'm not trying to start a fight here. We have enough £££ to buy a pick up anywhere between £10K and new. Given our lack of experience in 4x4 ownership I am asking YOU guys for your opinions on everything concerning them. We tow a 1 ton trailer, a chipper and do many miles/kms I like the Amarok but has anyone ever seen one? I've driven one but never seen any others on the road. The new landy is attractive, maybe they have sorted historical issues. New ranger, isuzu is attractive... Please share your experiences. Cheers Ty
  24. You know what... KEEP YOUR CHUFFING SOUR GRAPE BORDEAUX!... and your southern sun... Sun...I remember sun... Ty
  25. Would you like to have a work experience in France?

May satisfy some of your curiosity and you may get to see Mont St Michael at the same time.
