  1. Thanks for the comments Its a Jonsered CS2171 Cut into liftable sizes and trailer off site. yeah, bored in and left a holding strap to finish off with the Silky as I had to hold the camera in my other hand. front monkeyd, I wouldn't rig them from the back Raconteurs 'you dont understand me'
  2. Footage from a job we did a couple weeks back. Tree had to come down due to Meripilus. Didnt get much time use the camera during job which is why the vid is so short. Be happy to answer any questions about anything in the vid. Cheers TC [ame=http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GPlYSB99egE&feature=channel_page]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GPlYSB99egE&feature=channel_page[/ame]
  3. Anyone put me in touch with a chainsaw carver who would want to carve a 2m tall by 1 metre diam Beech stump into a throne in Glasgow? Cheers TC .
  4. This guy in the US has a network of treeclimbers who offer cat rescue anywhere in the States. He might want to expand into Europe - http://catinatreerescue.com/home/index.cfm He's also got bags of experience rescuing cats and other critters from trees if you need any tips.
  5. Eucalyptus gunni or Eucalyptus pauciflora .
  6. Iveco are planning to introduce the Massif to the UK market this year pricing it below the Defender - 3.0 litre engine two hp options 146hp or 178hp or something like that, they plan to take a chunk of Defender sales. Its basically the Santana with apparently over 140 improvements. Problem is the Euro exchange rate will push the price nearer the Defender. Also, whose gonna buy the Massif knowing that Iveco might pull out the UK market after 2 years of poor sales leaving you with a problem finding spare parts. Anyone heard any reports of how the Santanas are holding up? Iveco Massif -
  7. Quick question for Landrover owners - Why did Landrover put a 2.4 Transit engine into the Defender(a work vehicle) when they've put a 3 litre V6 into the Discovery(SUV)? Why didn't the Defender get the same engine?
  8. Top quality youtube vid this - quick thinking and fast reactions from the driver probably saved his life. [ame=http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=m_ogvbAhUZs]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=m_ogvbAhUZs[/ame]
  9. Sounds good Reg, wonder why no-one has thought of filling the price gap between the Buckingham Portawrap and Hobbs/GRCS before. Seen a few homemade GRCSs/Hobbs in the past but nothing that pushed the idea forward. Looking forward to seeing the new LD. Any idea on price?
  10. Looking for a professional qualified climber for sub-contracting work. Would welcome any enquiries Pm me for details.
  11. Not a hospital, research facility. Going to fell the trunk, cut into large discs then quarter them, then all away in 3.5 ton tipping trailers. Speaking of firewood, loads of scavengers showed up in cars wanting the timber, they turned feral when they found out they couldn't have any.....had to fight them off, they were like a pack of vicious hyenas. Probably gonna have to hire in a private security firm for the next stage of the removal.
  12. Alasdair, Its your lucky day, I'll sell you this fine example of British engineering for £850. Outstanding build quality and has never let me down, this vehicle has only been used for trips to the supermarket for the weekly groceries. I've bought a new one so its time for someone else to experience the magic of an L Reg 200Tdi HI Cap Defender 110.
  13. Started this removal yesterday, nice day - good weather for treework, some rigging, some freefalling.....went pretty smooth, so far so good.
  14. Agree with everyone, would normally chase a hinge through on a top like that, you can judge when to severe the hinge as the top goes over, nearly always lands flat. In the vid the hinge was left thick so I could get the camera out my pocket to video the top going over. The face cut was a regular 45 degrees notch, but the hinge held too long and gravity took over sending the tip down first. Back cut was a bit high but was still a good 2 inch thick. .
  15. This was the email from Youtube when I tried to download the version with music - Dear CraigTreeServices, Video Disabled A copyright owner has claimed it owns some or all of the audio content in your video limewestend 0001. The audio content identified in your video is Attention by The Raconteurs. We regret to inform you that your video has been blocked from playback, due to a music rights issue. This is the reason my other vids were blocked. Top came down tip first because the hinge was too big.
  16. Ok, 2nd attempt to post this vid. For all those who saw the original, had to strip the music off as Youtube were threatening legal action for copyright breach - bonus is, you get to hear some fibres splitting, thuds and some Glasgow wildlife. Anyone want to guess why the top came down tip first? [ame=http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EnmxynZaDNI]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EnmxynZaDNI[/ame]
  17. Try this - http://www.treemettlenexus.com/pdfs/rules_%20for_riggers.pdf
  18. Dean, speak to Tully, he's the man in the know about these things.
  19. Already did Steve, pm'd him with all the relevant info.
  20. Would be happy to quote for the work. Re 'planning permission' = Conservation Areas/TPO's/Forestry Comm Felling Licences and BS 5837. Same as England and Wales, it all depends on the area where the trees are growing and which LA covers the area, how many trees are being removed etc. 'planning permission' will just be a catch all term for the homeowners to use. PM me for contact details TC
  21. Didn't know New England tree climbing ropes had been around that long. My first tree climb in 1996 was on 3 strand climbing line with 3 strand prussik loops, thought it was great. The following year someone introduced me to N E Safety Blue with homemade kernmantle prussik loops. The following year I tried Yale XTC red and white with Blakes and have been climbing on it ever since. Any idea how old Yale XTC is? Was it designed by Don Blair? .
  22. Larry, just out of interest, what is your job in the Royal Marines? Have you any experience of working at height? It might be worth arranging a visit to a tree surgery company and watching them work on large trees before you decide to pay for expensive courses.
  23. Matty, nice fell + run, tree was in a bad way......I'd have set a pull rope in it using a thowline, left a big hinge and used a 4x4 to pull it over, takes you out of the death zone. .
  24. Colin, thats the trouble, Jason is educated beyond his intelligence.
  25. My quote of the year goes to Alex for this little gem from the cutting and holding thread -
