  1. Thanks very much. As an ex-service man, I think you can see where the state has responsibilities. In fact there are few examples of where the `nanny state' is needed as powerful as the disregard of soldiers returning from active duty, with or without parts missing. For Christ sake, who doesn't love their Nan? Shouldn't we take responsibility for our people on an individual, local and state level? Stop encouraging me. Dagmar might turn up.
  2. which one is which? I'm not kidding. I love fast cars as much as anyone, but to actually spend that much money on one and then have the gaul to drive it around makes you factor 11 in my book.
  3. Nanny state is a term used by those who don't need such a thing. It's broad stroke stuff, which doesn't take into account those individuals who need protecting or nurturing. Sure, there are anecdotes which back such a philosophy, but there are many stories never told in the red tops of things working out for the best. I say red tops, as I'm pretty sure that's where the `nanny state' idea comes from. I prefer to think of it as a responsible state. The original story was spun to be included in ammunition against responsible state power. I'm sure that there's another story too, one from the woodwork teachers side. Who now has asthma. It would be difficult to be judgmental about a man I have never met. We don't know the full story.
  4. I thought it was a KitKat commercial. I've tried the tube to no avail.
  5. personally, I only make intelligent mistakes.
  6. I think I'm seeing a pattern. Why don't you employ more experienced staff? In many ways you are running a crèche as your employees seem to be young and inexperienced. I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't employ the absolute newbie, as everyone has to get a foot in the door somewhere; but The policy of employing young'uns is partly to blame for your problem. I'm not having a go here, I just thought it was a valid point for wider discussion.
  7. What's the problem with using a pole saw from a harness?
  8. Right up to the point where you reminded us that he lied, I was thinking you too harsh. I would still, if he hadn't lied. It's not healthy for anyone if there's no trust. Of course we're all surmising on one side of the story. I'm also alarmed at your motivation for concern at seeing the mess. I'd hope it would have been for the hypothetical mother and child rather than the resultant claim. Perhaps it was just a poor choice of words?
  9. Have you had this happen to you?
  10. This is one of the most entertaining threads for ages. I'd like to congratulate everyone on their wit and timing. It's like an episode of Twin Peaks. Sorry Tim that makes you Bob.
  11. or quick fists
  12. Your right not to name names of course. We don't know the circumstances that lead to these cuts. It may well have been the new boy on the firm given a free run for a few mins. Who knows. They are bad cuts, but without knowing the full story it would be wrong IMO to point fingers. Also that sort of workmanship is very common, particularly with LA work. I've seen a lot worse from professionals.
  13. Presumably your be demonstrating how much wood you've got to your Mother in law with your chopper once you've got 39? This is a bit like a Jim Davidson rerun.
  14. Hindu Hod Head. If I'm not mistaken.
  15. Indeed we do all make mistakes. On the other hand; the `Gaffer' wants to learn to climb trees. :001_tongue:
  16. Not good. I'm flat on my back with facet joint problems. lots of Ibuprufen and ice. You can't do anything else to mend these things but do nothing take drugs and watch TV. Take care.
  17. We've all been there. Truly a nightmare. Whoever priced the job is at fault for not knowing what he was pricing. Presumably a newbie at the game. Experience will change that. A tough job well done IMO. Hope the tea was flowing.
  18. You've done the right thing James. In respect of getting a report on the required work. Paypal Will ask you to do this as part of their procedure. I've had some ebay wrangles myself, from both sides too. On the whole it works well, having said that, I've never bought a saw from ebay. Good luck.
  19. Indeed he is contemporary and relevent particulary to teenagers. Trudging slowly over wet sand Back to the bench where your clothes were stolen This is the coastal town That they forgot to close down Armageddon - come armageddon! Come, armageddon! come! Everyday is like sunday Everyday is silent and grey Hide on the promenade Etch a postcard : How I dearly wish I was not here In the seaside town ...that they forgot to bomb Come, come, come - nuclear bomb genius
  20. I've seen a few items of wildlife go through a chipper. Arty splashes! I've heard of some one feeding cinder blocks to an entec. Anyone catch the chipper in Jackass? Oh and this was posted before I think [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=N0Cv6palxDw[/ame]
  21. And if a double-decker bus Crashes into us To die by your side Is such a heavenly way to die And if a ten-ton truck Kills the both of us To die by your side Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine
  22. What gets me every time i read something like that, is how simple it is, so how can I have missed it for 25 years? cool as. thanks.
  23. Dr Doolitttle can talk to the animals. So what! It's getting em to talk back thats tricky. Your wolf looks like he might need to concentrate more in class.
  24. Use a chainsaw instead and chop him up and mail him home in a jiffy bag. That'll learn him.
  25. That's rubbish. This is a talkin animal. [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hes_UFHmB4I&feature=related[/ame] I think it's from adocumentory about talking animals. Your dog is blatently drunk or a retard.
