  1. that could take a while with us two from north of the border. BTW could you pm your address and postcode for t'satnav:001_smile:
  2. I always try to carry a spare chain, tank breather and pull cord, thats about it as they are the bits that seem to go (020)
  3. I've been using op on Tachyon which is 11.5 without too many probs, although it does take time to get right. I like to minimise the sitback so I tie it short, about 60cm I think, tying short definately makes the hitch more grippy. The grippiest hitch I have tried is the icicle, you could give that a go. OP does need time to bed in, add extra wraps and then remove them once its going better. BTW I am currently using the Howard hitch and its been going well>>>> the howard with a knut finish
  4. Mind you a puffin can do all those plus fly.... You Gettin a PUFFIN STUFFIN
  5. Does anyone remember that documentary abouit that trawler skipper in Girvan who mounted a big harpoon on the bow and went hunting basking sharks to sell the fins to the Japanese? I'd like to be a little further on than I am now, just like I am from 5 years ago, slow but steady progress.
  6. It would be good to have another one, I'll see what I can do.

  7. i put an employee through this recently, here's what we found: The trailer needs to be as wide or wider than the tow vehicle The tow vehicle must be totally empty, ie no tools or equipment in the back The trailer must have a working fog light,(not all do) The tow vehicle must have a buzzer or light to show that the trailer indicators are working. They will also need to fit extra mirrors on for the examiner to use, check he is bringing them as the instructor provided ours.
  8. A few of the storm damage job we were on last week... Sheer weight of snow did this, they had about 3foot of wet sticky snow. This one was very dangerous, a massive rootball sitting on a very steep slope, we took off everything we could and left the main bole to hold it in place. These two are pushing 100foot, there's a big hanger in one which we'll be back for.
  9. A couple I took of a sunset about 10 years ago near Durness, Sutherland. And one of Glencoe, the wee red bit is an artic.
  10. Nothing surprises me given our compensation culture these days, however there is more than a touch of hipocricy here: How many threads are there on here moaning about "handy men and gardeners" doing tree surgeons work. Now we're all taking the side of the hotel (who cut corners and used their handy man to do tree work) against the courts. £2015 is a lot to get a tree cut, maybe next time they will employ a pro. Either we have a free for all and let anyone do the job and accept the bad workmanship that will result or we allow the H&S to do their job and prosecute the cowboys, thus sending more work in the direction of us pro's. I'm genuinely not sure where I stand on this, but you can't have both.
  11. I've been on that walk, north eastern side of the lakes isn't it? That sitka is impressive in the flesh.
  12. I'll be after a pantin, just in case you weren't bringing any.
  13. An oak I deadwooded last week, it ended up needing some big limbs off which I left as long stubs to see if they'll regenerate. And a couple of Treeson and Andrew working on some storm damaged beeches.
  14. How do you rate the Tajfun SCS?
  15. Here's some pics, to help identify it, the bud and twig showing leaf scars and some of the bark, also some showing the resin, which has started to go black since yesterday. Prob the most distinctive feature were the seeds which were still hanging from the tree in grape like clusters, I have no pics of these at the mo but you can see them in other pics in this thread.:001_smile:
  16. We deadwooded a big one today, after re-reading this thread I dont know what to do with the arisings, we didn't chip it for fear of the dust, buy If it cant be burned either then we're kind of stuck with it. I'll post up some pics of the bark and buds.
  17. Its another name for the martin hitch, I think its a good hitch, not as sporty as some but way better than a prussic or blakes. Give it a try.

Start saw and back off the L jet 1/8th of a turn, then try reving again, keep doing this 1/8th at a time till it picks up properly. If you have been playing with the idle you may need to re-adjust that afterwards. Hope that helps:001_smile:
  19. you could weld a tow hitch onto the skidder no prob, thats all i did on my winch so i can pull the chipper and stuff. Its also handy for doubling up the winch. You're right it would be great with a little trailer, theres an estate round here with that setup apparently.
  20. I'll bet they wouldn't be that bad to get made up stevie if you cant find them, the sparex catalogue is all you need, just buy the eyes and get them made up to fit your machine. There's a company my dad uses who can make up rams to your spec too. Sparex Home
  21. We won't join the euro now, Its fecked, they are having to bail out greece, portugal and ireland. Just a good job we're not in it. the country needs a tory government, just like it needed a labour government in 97. We need massive cuts in the public sector especially the final salary pensions, a labour government just cant do that as it would tear the party in half. Only a tory government could do it, of course they'd be so unpopular that they'd be voted out next time, but by then the work would be done. It has a bitter taste but we need to take our medicine.
  22. If coronetting prolongs the "useful" life of a tree which under standard "arboricultural practise" would have been felled then it most definately does benefit the tree.
