  1. I was trying really hard not to say that but it does work fairly well.
  2. I would have said Husky 242xp but probably the 560xp I reckon.
  3. Did it all on my own apart from one afternoon when a mate dropped by and helped steady the jacks and body while I shoved the rolling chassis back under. Could have managed probably but was glad of the exra pair of hands. I took wings/ bonnet off, locked the doors shut and lifted the body off in a oner (was a 90 but don't see why a 110 couldn't be done the same) Reckon if I'd done it in one good go it would have been about 5 days start to finish, but as it was it was an odd couple of hours here and there over a few weeks.
  4. It's really not as much work as you think it will be before you start - if you're having engine out and swapping bulkhead, there's not a huge amount of big bits left. Did mine on the drive with nowt more complex than a pair of high lifts, a pair of bottle jacks, an engine crane once the body was off and a good stack of blocks of wood.

  6. I found that spray on stone chip worked well over the galv for the rar crossmember- it sort of fades after a bit so doesn't look shiny new for long. Think a shiny black one on an lder truck attracts the wrong attnetion too. Wiring loom wise, I nearly got angry with mine but managed to feed a lenthg of ordinary garden hosepipe full length and then taped/tied the loom to it before pulling it back through. I'd spent hours messing round with string/rope/wire before trying the hosepipe.
  7. Reckon that's probably it then I made up a rack a bit like a wooden version of a buckingham log station, and have seen photos on here of others like it too - chuck a number of brnaches in and run the saw through them all together. Even then the top ones try to flick a bit but it's doable.
  8. I'm going to agree with rakers being too low or if not, then maybe you're going in too agressively initially and it's snatching, especially as it's a reasonably powerful saw in some small wood. Does it try and pick up/roll the piece of wood?
  9. In my experience, anyone using any powered equipment is usually from whichever organisation is supervising the volunteers and are very strict about it.
  10. How long do you think it would take to do? I'm not a gardener either (or a tree surgeon for that matter) but that's the sort of job that would slot in nicely after tea over the summer after a days felling or sat on the forwarder.
  11. Generally though, won't the volunteers just be doing menial stuff with limited amount of tools? Can't say it bothers me any.
  12. I can see where TCD's coming from too. Though not intentionally, we sell most of our roadside stuff out of area, and if I still sold logs I'd be fairly reluctant to sell it onto my own doorstep. On the whole round us, the further afield it goes, the more people are prepared to pay at roadside (odd I know, but it's more to do with lower prices locally)
  13. Cheers, Ta. £180 would go a long way towards a second small echo too. Shame our local Stihl dealer wouldn't entertain a demo saw. It will be interesting to see how the 543 feels though as it should be a good chunk lighter than the 550, and the 550 is fairly slender. I think for the sort of work a tiny saw is going to lend itself to, the 550 is far too agressive - it's fantastic for thinning but for a bit of formative pruning it's like trying to crack a nut with a sledgehammer 242 or 42 doing a good job but hardly any lighter than the 550.
  14. It's felt really quite cold at times here today, and the sky greyed up enogh to look like it could snow.
  15. Given the higher RRP of the stihl, is it that much better than the echo? Wish Husky ould hurry up with the 543xp

  17. From the way it was worded, the bit of aerial work by the road sounded like it made up a small percentage of the total work. If he's got enough overheads to need £25/£30 per hour day in day out then he's not going to be thinking about doing a bit of man and saw work is he?
  18. I doubt you get much woodland work then Sounds like mostly man and saw stuff.
  19. Yep, get used to either poking out of parking spaces or driving up onto the kerbs to get all the way in I went the other way - 130 to 90 and the 90 felt like a gocart in comparison. Looks a nice truck
  20. Yep, Bilke - Think M large are still importers. Similar sort of thing to the Klapi Tuiko and Superpilke (or something similar named)
  21. I've not caught it on TV for the last couple of weeks, did start watching episode 4 on 4od but it's since vanished and it's not listing last sunday's (if there was one?). Anyone else managed to get it to work on 4od or is it just me?

  24. That picture shows a totally different saw though doesn't it? The one Ty's looking at is the bigger version of the 270es (so like a back handled top handle)
