  5. with the recession getting worst and unemployment going up ten fold each month people just are scared to spend or worried about their own jobs and future. i can see many tree surgeons going under as the recession gets real grip

  8. again i going by the cubic feet imperial measures and saying appox 28 cubic feet of timber is a ton going on the measurements of a hoppus when selling round timber in the uk, One hoppus foot = 1.273 true ft3; 27.74 h ft = 1 m3; and 1 h ft = 0.03605m3

    agree with you i couldnt think anything worst than working a 40 hour week doing a job you didnt like, theres not many who can say they love doing there job

    last couple years had lot of time out appox £30,000 and last year £28,000 but i normaly earn appox £35,000 but being on price it really up to us the work there what you put in is what you get

    disagree try renting or buying a property in the southwest were the pay is lower, but when it come to buying food ect sainburys, morrinson and asda is nation wide prices is the same everywere even petrol

    it seem quite low most firms around here pays £100 plus a day for climbers lot of the bigger firms you can go on price and you can earn well appox £25000 to £40000 a year
  17. not at all father had a large saw mill in the 80s it used to fell appox 45 acres aweek just to keep it running at any one time it had a million cube of timber in the yard, lorrys would carry between 400 to 500 cube which was about 17 to 20 ton

  19. when it comes to work and earning money a climber doesnt matter how good and quick he is, is only as good as hes grounds men on the day
  20. Does being a good climber mean he's a good tree worker sadly there more crap climbers than good the worst ones if the ones that talk a good job
  21. i work for a large firm for many years now glad in not self employed we get any gear we want dont have to worry anything ie bills we have 5 weeks holiday pay plus bank holidays, we all on price work and can earn very well, i know many tree surgeons that are self employed and most of them after expensives only get a basic wage and they get all the head ache to go with it

  23. i have refuse a few times one many years ago the council wanted to fell a 900 year old healthy oak to make way for a building site,i was given the job i look at this grand old tree and no way was i going to fell it so i made up that there was bats in it and reported the funny thing is the tree officer came out with the bat people to inspeck for bats and there was bats in the tree and its still standing to this day. the last tree was again with the council a lady complained that the chestnut outside her house was dropping conkers in her drive and her job was high up in the council.i complained to the council that she was abuseing her powers as the tree been there for a good couple hundred years and she just move in. anyway i got my way the tree still standing
  24. the summer is here with chainsaw trouser after a few hours your knackered the only accident i had is when i past out one hot day few years back dur to Heat exhaustion . this time a year it one of the main thing accidents start from is heat exhaustion. do you think in some hot countrys when it gets really hot the choice is yours if you wear chainsaw trouser but if you choice to not wear them any cuts is down to you your not insured.
  25. on average there a handfull of climber killed whiles working with rope and harness looking at there records there isnt a death yet with mewps ie doing tree work. as for your mates keep asking for the mewp even for small jobs the law on there side as its the safest way to do the job
