this is it the law changes daily in a few years tree surgery in this country be like germany, and it will all mewp work one day
  3. part of there job is to see a contractors are complying to health and safety guild lines for tree gang and the public safety
  4. tree surgery has change so much in the last 20 years health and safety and we need tickets for everything these days, but if you apply for some tree officers jobs hasnt gone with the time they dont need any off these tickets so how can they police someone that have ie a climbing ticket as they should do if you were doing streets trees

been climbing for a long time and know many that have too, all the blokes that i know that been in this game have joints and back proplems and as we get older it gets worse, the hse due to my knowledge have never look into this, do you think wear and tear on our bodies should be look at for our long term future
  7. its not about negatively, its about many tree officers that havent got the pratical side of it, like getting a young tree officer freash from caple manor and never climb a tree or use a chipper in his life trying to tell you what to do, like i said we had them over the years giving out there ideals only would people a risk. ie just before xmas we had a dead lime that had been ring bark so we decided to mewp it but the tree officer for that councils said no because it cost to much for a mewp, we pointed out the tree was to unsafe to climb but because he never had any pratical exprence he couldnt see the danger. we mewp it against his wishes at a low cost to the council
  8. me and my work partner between us have 55 years of climbing exprences between us and deal with many tree offericers as most of our work is street trees these days, not saying what council it was but the tree officers was out of order as he ask us to do something that would have put the groundmen lives at risk, but this tree officer was a postman for 20 years before he become a tree officer to the council and had been in that post for approx a year. had another in south london that couldnt tell the difference between a ash and plane,
  9. these big firms like gristwood and toms, civill trees eg starting soon when they apply for contracts from the councils. the council are going to expect the contract managers of these firms to have a Diploma and must of have practical side of tree surgery. but there own tree officers only need the diploma, double standards
  10. i have been climbing for over 30 years and meet a some tree officers that are good at there job but many havent got a clue in the practical side of it,
  11. quite lot of tree officers are straight out of college and never done a days work working with trees. just your thoughts on this do you think they should have some work experience working with tree gangs for a year or so before they become tree offficers
  12. try sandy lane the pickies have quite a few for sale going cheap
  13. not a bad reduction seen worst
  14. highest tree i climb was a apple tree
  15. spring is a lovely time of the year to do tree work and the summer is nicer to work in the parks when the birds come out to rest not the feather kind either
  16. this why i think when lot climbers had been climbing for years before you had your tickets, then they t had to get them, your not going to change your way of working. only for that one day when you was getting assess
  17. your right if you feel unhappy with something dont use it
  18. your so right in what you said
  19. accidents happen to the best of them
  20. we all used to free climb years ago but it give you more confidence only but knowing to use your rope correcty is better i alway let your ropes do the work for you
  21. qualifications mean nothing im saying doesnt make you a better climber either . i have all my tickets what a wast of time that was learnt nothing that i didnt know. when we went for our felling tickets there was 4 of us between us there was 90 years of climbing Experince. the assessor was showing us different felling cut and then showed us how to fell a tree but when he fell the tree it went the wrong way and smash a fence. we all was killing ourself but he past us on the spot. I still have a deep hunger for learning and will listen to advise. common sence have lost countless jobs because I have refused to do as the tree owner asked and I haven't been able to persuade them otherwise. I am a firm believer that (sometimes) qualifications mean nothing. If you haven't got a degree in common sense then the rest of your qualifications means nothing. most senceable thing anybody said on these forums. my point for day one i bet you other tree surgeons love you for the extra work they get becauce you cant have you own way . strange but dont customers pay you for what they want done if you dont someone else well fact If you are going to do something Know your subject, so that if a customer askes you a question, you know the answer common sense again Courses and qualification have theur place dodger and shouldn't be poo pooed. to right but not by the book
  22. yes some of us have been on the wind up it true that i been climbing full on for 30 years plus my mate 28 and the rest 15 to 25 years. i dont think going college makes you no better what so ever to climb a tree your either got it or you havent most firm are not interested if you went college there just want some that can climb and someone with common sense. you no good if you cant earn them money most tree surgeons talk a good tree or never want to be out done. and are back stabbers never meet a tree surgeon in my life that havent turn turn down good money. trees alway come second health and safety will kill off some small business in the future it will out price the work customers are paying you for a service, by call them thick or there should do there home work is not a profession. they pay you good money for your advice and work ive meet two tree officers this year that one didnt know the differents bewteen ash tree and a plane. the offer was the same but didnt know any tree. over the year ive meet some ***** that call themself tree officers that i know companys that brouht them out to cook the books again money can buy most things. im not saying or tree officers are like this lot of them are good at there job but some are. but again these days it to easy to get a job with little knowledge not or pikeys make crap jobs didnt we all start of making crap job when we was learning to climb but pikeys are the worst of the low. heard some horror storys over the years. and seen some horrors Especially their women
  23. being qualified doesnt make you a better climber tooo right
