  1. nice to see the butt go to good use
  2. Nice one reg cheers for the info and ive just started havin a.proper read up about craning and the like. Lots to learn! pleased that there are others that think better coms makes for better work. Cheers for all the info!
  3. must admit MOG that at times spikes can be more of a pain than a help.. i do like them when it gets to choggin of stems as i like the security that i can place my feet exactly where i need em everytime. but in crown breakdown stage i find they are always gettin caught on twigs, makin me slip along smooth bark, not allowing me to get me feet in between gaps and notches etc etc... so i generally keep em off and climb as normal till i need em! but thats just me
  4. awsome set of pics and nice detailed brief at the start. ive not done any crane work at all yet and this job does look fairly daunting to me at present! id like to ask if i may what are the coms system i see your using? im currently using some cheap in ear vox two ways from amazon. i really they make the job so much safer and more manageable in my opinion and im looking to improve to something a bit more suited possible. do you use vox or open channel or ptt? cheers for the pics and story!
  5. Loving that idea! blates gettin me some of them signs made up!

    sideline extras?

am loving the variety of stuff i hadnt even thought of! plant troughs and chairs look like they could be a big winner.. with the whole "rustic look" that people seem to be loving that look at the moment...

    sideline extras?

haha treequip there was me getting all impressed with that range of animals. at least that makes me happier to know that its not just me who makes animals resemble fungi!
  8. hey guys, recently ive had an increasing number of customers askin me if i can "carve a toadstool, hedgehog, seat.... from that stump/chog etc" also a few asking for other little bits like "bee logs" "natural bird boxes" etc etc from some of the arisings... im half considering havin a bash at bustin a few bits and bobs out in my spare time (whatever that is ) and seein if they are as popular as they seem to be round my way at the moment.. shouldnt be too bad as have full access to a joinery workshop and tools and machinery.. anyone else done/do this or anyone have any thoughts if it might work (im not expecting a living, more just grabbing people interest at the possibilities of makin use of the "waste" rather than just chipping/burning everything? cheers in advance for any thoughts
  9. some very good points made on both sides of the fence on this one guys many thanks.. i think.... at the moment it stands that the customer who ive done a lot of work for and am very confident isnt dodgy, really wants to if possible retain the tree as its the end of the row and obviously will look rather rubbish if it is removed. i will advise again about removal and explain the costings etc but i feel that he still likely to go with bracing of some form. if so.. i'll get a disclaimer written up for him to sign detailing my professional recommendations etc. think i'll start there and see what the outcome is.... i'll try get some pics at some point when i have a spare minute... which we all know how readily they come along
  10. i must admit i did highly recommend removal but in no fewer words was the reply: 'that.. aint happenin' so i guess i gotta do what i gotta do... old school sounds good.. i'll start lookin into it!
  11. guys, never done any bracing before so treat me like a simpleton. just took the top oput of a row of 11 leylandii's the other week that were pushin 110' at the tips. the end one seems to have a split in the main stem staring about 10, off the ground and goes all the way upto around 40' where the stem splits into about 10 seperate leaders. in the wind you can clearly see each half of the main stem moving independantly of each other and the split opening up and closing again. i was contemplating bracing around the top of the main stem where it splits off into the various leaders? it comes down it'll go through a mains supply, garages and probably the aston martin inside any thoughts on if this might work? and if so, which bracing systems would anyone recommend as ive seen a fair few on the market but again, am a newb to it all. cheers guys on any thoughts Rik

  15. yeti these things are pretty insane. i saw a vid of one years ago and ever since then ive been looking for one.. i managed to find a second hand from the church of ebay and had it straight away. cant rememebr the date on it but it was made in around the 40's and its still in sexy conditon and will pull anything and everything. dont recon ill be using it everyday as it weighs a tone and takes up a **** load of room in the wagons... but that job i need to pull a house out of the way.. itll be sat waiting.. lovely job

    crash

nice one to both dave and dean. ive had a few experiences like this. luckily nothing anywhere near as severe. and it occured to me that everytime ive been in any situation, the people that stop to help seem to always be the people that have not the 'safest' jobs/ lives and seem to maybe value life more than others? now i know thats a pretty broad generalisation and by no means am i saying all office based peeps are useless.. not at all... just my personal experiences. main thing is, as long as SOMEONE stops. again. nice one dave and dean

    tree ownership?

wow guys! i go away for one day and i seem to have started summat huge that i thought was gonna be a simple fix! i must admit though im finding the disscusion very thought provoking and now im even less clear were us guys actually stand on these things! just for the record: the job im looking at is a small 25' sycamore dead on the boundary (the fence has been cut on both sides and looks at though it passes right through the middle and out the other side! the customer says he wants it down for the normal reasons, light, sap, bird **** on the cars etc etc... when asked if he actually owned it i got an 'recon i do mate', i went next door but no answer yet. its only an easy mornings work. keep up the arguin guys. recon we'll come to an end at some point!

    tree ownership?

hmmm.. yeah fair point well made.. think ill take the voice of experience on this and do just that! like u say. if someone else gets it.. no biggy in the long run..

    tree ownership?

yeah cheers for the thoughts guys, i kinda had the same thoughts as you dean that its their prob, but again, as al and swb say, im not so keen on gettin put in the middle with earache and no pay at the end! recon ill go with the nicely nicely approach to start with and try and get everyone on board from the start if at all possible!
  23. guys i was asked to price the removal of a tree that sat exactly along the boundary of 2 gardens, the 'owner' wants it removed but im a lil fearful that the nextdoor neighbour may kick up if i go ahead and claim the tree is his etc etc:confused1:. im sure many of us have come across this before, was just wonderin how everyone deals with it? i was thinking of getting a signed disclaimer from each 'owner' before i carry out any work at all. any thoughts? cheers guys
  24. super stub it shall become.. and tbh.. me sugoi is pretty damn good i must admit.
  25. had exactly the same thing happen in pretty much exactly the same place couple weeks back. i went for the heavier duty blade to replace. its a little thicker, but not as flexible so im guessing (hoping) not as prone to snappin. i might keep the snapped one though in case i need a short saw ever as it still seems sharp as hell. gotta love em.
