  1. Monsieur Bolam of course He has international notoriety
  2. I have always carried one in the landy but only for when I get pulled by vosa and ea just so I can argue the toss about waste transfer licence on record
  3. There are some genuine dealers out there that do service things before being sold. It makes sure there are going to be no come backs through silly things like choked air filter or bad spark plug etc. That said I have just bought a just serviced Stihl 450 strimmer and the first thing I will do tomorrow when it comes is whip the exhaust off and look for cylinder scoring. Any sign of it and it's going back as I paid good money for it
  4. Just point the editor to this thread, saves a lot of explaining
  5. I think the problem here is people entering the industry by setting up a business and expecting it to work from the word go. It took about 8 years for work to come in reliably enough to employ someone full time and even then I sometimes didn't and don't draw a wage, don't get holiday pay or sick pay and have to work an average of 75 hours a week. Facts are facts, I don't see why the truth should be glossed over. If you want to be employed in this job then wages aren't great, so don't invest in loads of expensive tackle. If you want to be self employed, I would say freelancing would be the best avenue, if you want to be in charge of your own destiny expect to put in huge amounts of time, money and expect crap wages for the time you put in. last week I put in 85 hours. Glossing over this is very counter productive and leads to false expectations and disappointment. If I had my time again I certainly would not choose tree work to set up a business, free lance yes but running the show? Forget it
  6. Shoulders are going with all the cutting and holding Knees are going with all the crotch jamming Back is going with lifting logs Hearing is going with all the noisy tackle My neck hurts most of the time with stress I get dehydrated a lot so come home with headaches My hands stiffen up at night and the little joints in my fingers hurt I get tennis elbow regularly Sometimes my hip hurts quite bad I pull muscles in my back regularly While I'm having a whine I,ll just throw in that I do twice as many hours as normal working people, for probably the same pay and pay the same tax with half the benefits
  7. As Skyhuck said, incomplete combustion, first thing to try is clean the main jet
  8. Tell them he was driving it for you
  9. Ali might not be a good enough climber Craig, he might be too slow
  10. That's the end on log grabbing I was on about Next time you have it out Bob, point out to them that stevie must have damaged the nylon sliders in the boom, they need replacing, I,m about to do mine but obviously I,m over engineering them with some I made earlier
  11. Was the job today ? Edit: Monday, I should read before posting. Good look mate, I was just about to give you a telling off for pumping all the muscles up just before the op
  12. I am going to change the piston and cylinder on a 365 I have been given because it is scored. I,m going to change it for a 372 cylinder kit but am bothered that the inlet on the 372 might be the round one. The inlet on my 365 is the oval one. Does anyone know if they are oval and do they have a source or part number so I don't end up with the wrong thing I need a full piston / cylinder kit and the cylinder to crankcase gasket
  13. No mate, I,m looking out for a little grapple to come up on eBay then I will fabricate something. In the meantime I,m going to do as Treequip suggested and move the ram bracket so the jaws of mine close a bit more
  14. These machines are the most grass friendly machines there is. I recently took a huge Beech down and picked up and drove every single piece 600m across a golf course green in the winter. The green keeper said there were no marks at all only a couple of weeks after, basically, if the ground is not boggy, they will only flatten the grass. As Kimtree said, the trick is not to drive in the same tracks every time. You will have to pay around £15k for a decent machine of a decent size
  15. Only joking mate, can't do smilies on mi iPhone I am seriously considering the u900 option but purely for getting my gear to site in a oner no other reason really. The advantages of having a landy far out weigh having a mog at the moment. I'm going to see what jobs I get over the coming months and weigh up whether the mog would be better or the landy and see what comes of it Sent from my iPhone cos it was
  16. I'd only buy one to make my manhood look bigger Sent from my iPhone cos it was
  17. What's vat Sent from my iPhone cos it was
  18. I haven't really done any deep studies but I reckon if I sell £60 worth of logs I make £20 and I would imagine the more I produced the more margin I would make
  19. My problem is just that at the moment Stevie, getting my gear to site in a oner, it would solve that problem Sent from my iPhone cos it was
  20. Why have a three ton hunk of metal if it doesn't earn money. I would not own a landrover if it didn't service my business needs. I couldn't justify driving an amazon if I didn't have 3.5 t to pull about with it and to carry lots of kit, the only other reason I could think of would be to make me feel good about myself. At the moment my other car is a mini without a towbar Sent from my iPhone cos it was
  21. Perhaps someone could come up with some costings to be a little more helpful. For example, what do you think the profit margin is in a cu/m of firewood What does it cost to buy in, what does it cost to turn into logs, what do the bags and transport cost, advertising etc If he knows a rough profit margin he will know how many cube he needs to shift to cover his particular living standards. You not giving away the crown jewels, just a rough idea for him
  22. Just been to a retail park and walked along the car park behind all the 4x4s No tow bar No tow bar No tow bar No tow bar No tow bar No tow bar No tow bar No tow bar
  23. You might find that it also depends on what wheel tyre combo the mog as on
  24. I,m sure someone on here will give you a price.
