  1. Tony...you do read some crap
  2. I dont want anything, thats the point, and if anyone offered I'd say no. It the fact no-one has even offered in over six years and thats a lot of people taking chip, probably into the hundreds. The icing on the cake is the fact that I give them something for free and in return they give me their rubbish
  3. What breakdowns ?? I'm using it tomorrow, it hasn't broke down, just a niggle that needs sorting. ..and Ian.. your so predictable, I had a bet on with myself of your response and you didn't let me down
  4. Its developed a niggling problem that I need to fault find Might take me a few minutes, this MEWP is one of the most complex on the market
  5. I think it's £7 a ton but what put me off was having to have the means of loading it yourself into the artic I believe now they are offering to self load ???
  6. I have also thought about building a sump at the lowest pointand then running a pipe away from that at a certain height so I will have a ready supply of water to water plants etc but it wont over fill because of the drain off pipe. Thing is I'll still have the problem if the underlying clay swells and doesnt allow free drainage
  7. I think the box would get pilfered at any oppertunity. I know I have saved some people hundreds of pound because one rung me and he couldn't believe it was free if he collected, he had been quoted over £200 by a garden centre for a couple of loads So my thinking is that a couple of minutes online donating will be nothing to them. I did get a bit mad the other day because I get fed up with them leaving rubbish on the chip pile, they seem to think it's ok to bring their old plants and clippings to tip and also leave knackered one ton bags and plastic containers that they take the chip away in It just goes to show how selfish some people can be
  8. It will be Steve, the wood is lifting with wrens and a few Robins
  9. I wish that was do-able But it isn't
  10. As many of you know I give all my chip away. I have a chip pile which is at the side of an access road which is used by hundreds of people, I have told people who ring and ask they can help their selves to the chip. As a result they shift hundreds of tons a year for me and keep the chip pile down, I've never had to have any taken away. I was down there today loading the mewp and couldn't believe how many people actually turn up with vans and bags on the weekend to collect the stuff In the 6 years the chip pile has been in that spot not one single person has ever shown their gratitude, given or offered me a bottle of wine or anything. I did think about putting up an honesty box for charity but that would most likely get nicked but judging by the selfishness of the people who come I reckon it would never get a donation. I am moving yard soon and what I intend to do if there is a way is to put a sign up saying " The chip is free apart from a donation of your choice to this charity" and have something setup through paypal or something so I can monitor what gets donated. If no donations are forthcoming, I'll shut down the free woodchip and just sell it for boimass instead and teach them a lesson
  11. Celox Field dressing Tourniquet That really should be all you need and the tournequet can be improvised
  12. Little sod normally builds it somewhere on the mewp but this time on the cross member of the trailer, it's going for a 10 mile ride tomorrow, luckily the nest is just being built not being used
  13. I thought as much, it was occuring to me that that area would be a good place to start looking. Now the next criteria is looks, dont want them scaring the customers. I may need to look eslewhere unless I can find a x breed with the brain dead axe swinging skills of someone from leeds but the looks of someone from brighouse
  14. Loading the mewp today when I came across a problem that stop play
  15. I have bought an axe but can't find anyone in brighouse or huddersfield dumb enough to swing it, was thinking of advertising for someone from the leeds area, apparently theres plenty still swinging axes there
  16. The dual mass is really designed to take out gearbox chatter and smooth rotational vibrations Have a quick look at your gearbox mounting rubbers as well as engine mounts Start with cheapest to fix first
  17. Crap design, tell thor that, it's the highest spec and biggest tonnage one they do I would have said there's "room for improvement" on the design
  18. Haha, where's it's arms and legs gone That is what I call a "definative" pollard
  19. I think I'm missing something too, why not just put a spike and crab on the main line ?
  20. The splitter is second hand This is what grease does on a relatively little used splitter.
  21. I think it means the soil molecules Tommer.. Where clay molecules soak up and hold moisture, the new ones dont so water will pass through the structure of the soil ??
  22. Probably an example of the wrong grease being used in the wrong application Rob Drylube is perfect for the application I have described where wearpads are exposed to gritty enviroments and lasts longer than grease. Dont forget, grease normally is squeezed out of where it is supposed to be lubricating very quickly, it appears to be still well greased because it is daubed all around the outside. my chipper bearings are supposed to be greased daily for that reason
  23. The use of dry lube is a big thing now on telehandlers which do shift stuff like sand and cement, so in that enviroment it really does make a massive difference. Speed isn't really as much as a factor as pressure between bearing surfaces, a piece of grit will do as much damage on a slow high pressure grind as it would on a few light pressure grinds Like you say though, splitter aren't really used in a harsh enviroment so isn't really a big problem. I used my mewp with grease when I bought it new and infact the inner wear pads still run on grease. When I extended the booms out I cleaned all the grease off and sprayed drylube on them. I then got two pieces of welding mask glass and put a dollop of the old grease between them and squashed it flat. It ground like a good one when I slid the glass plates across each other, some really big peices of grit where in it. I admit I am a bit anal when it comes to mechanical engineering and everything has to be right and to within a thou and as a result my gear is in tip top condition. I also spend a lot of time looking at other peoples machinery which has broken down due to lack of maintanance and neglect
  24. No its via the "quote" tab
  25. Only problem is the site is 100m x 80m so the lime thing is a very simple answer to an otherwise nightmare of a job. About a third is woodland, a third yard and a third grassed, so it is the dream solution provided the plantings and grass can tolerate a ph rise to 10.5 ?
