  1. Ohw that's shinny, I'd like that!
  2. They taught us to use both ends of the rope with prusiks, and have a lanyard for when needed. It works fine for me, but then I don't do as much climbing as you guys (yet!)
  3. I had heard the cobra bracing can wear the cambian on the tree, has anyone else heard of this happening?
  4. Hi I'm currently full time employed as a park warden on an estate in Surrey. I've been doing this work for about 8 years, but now know tree work is what I love. I got my climbing cert's almost two years ago, but get little chance to practice here as I'm the only full time employee! I have some private tree work at weekends, but really want the chance to gain some proper experiance with people who've been in the biz for awhile. I've got alot of experiance with ground saw work and chippers, but not so much climbing. I'm happy to be a groundie and work up. I love all aspects of the work. If anyone can offer me some weekend work please get in touch. Cheers:wave:
  5. We've got a bracket on a big Ash here, leaning over a path, but the local tree surgeons don't worry about it. I'll get a pic this week.
  6. How did you make the back for your hi-lux?
  7. Good God! My ex used to drag me out on holiday's like that, I needed another week off after!!
  8. I'm with you on that Mister tree. Can't stand cities, too many crowds and buildings! When I go away with the missues and dog we get a self cattering cottage in some quite part of the country and do lot's of dog walking! That's my idea of a holiday, not getting stressed in a city.
  9. Great pics, but yeah what was up with cutting with visor and ear diffenders up?
  10. The work is dangerous. How can being up a tree with a chainsaw not be?! I think there is too much pressure for work to be done quickly because people don't recognise the training and skill involved in doing this job. There are too many so called arborists who shirk the rules and make people think anyone can work a saw and climb a tree so why should they pay money for agood job when I can get a quick one done instead. A top handled saw in well trained and experianced hands should be safe. But start rushing jobs and accidents will happen. If you're going to make the job accident free then we'd have to get rid of climbing and chainsaws, and I can't see that working from a mewp is 100% safe either. IT'S A DANGEROUS JOB!! :cussing: Rant over
  11. That was f***king amazing!!! Wish I could boulder like that!!
  12. Their certaintly a bunch of girls. Wouldn't go so far as to call them ladies though.
  13. But nobody I work with has any either!!
  14. How so?
  15. What if you ain't got bollox?
  16. We had the forestry commission come round last year and recommend we fell and stump treat all the Sycamore growing in our woods. Personnaly I don't like them, they always seem to get attacked by squirrels and end up looking really cr*p. But we have got some nice mature ones on site whose bark is really attractive. As I've just started having a go at wood turning, having lots of Syc on site is great, and I do love cutting them down! As to the one in the guys garden, they say 'the right tree for the right situation', if it's wrong for there then take it out and plant something more suitable.
  17. I've got an old 044 with a 25" bar on it. It seems to cut better with the bigger bar than when I use it with an 18".
  18. Hello Sorry didn't intruduce myself before, I've only just read this thread, hadn't realised how new the forum was!! It's great by the way, I love all the tree and equipment porn!! I'm 28 and living in Surrey. Did my RFS Arb cert last year, got my climbing certs nearly two years ago and been chainsawing and chipping for 8 years now! Been working as a park warden for 8 years, but trees are my big love and I'm dying to get in to the biz full time. Only problem is my home is tied to this job and moving off site is a wee bit expensive round here!! Hopeing to work up some private work at weekends (anyone in Surrey need some help at weekends?) and move on when we've got some money in the bank! In the mean time, love the site and hope I'm with you guys for a long time to come! Deb:wave:

    ArbDogs? Pics!

Here's Bob. We got him from Battersea two and a half years ago. We're his fifth home, but he loves it here. He come's to work every day and chases me on the 4x4 buggy!
  20. I'm in Surrey, not far from the Kent boarder. Do you do weekend work? I'm in full time employ doing the park warden thing, but looking to gain some experiance with more tree work. I've got all my tickets and just passed my Cert Arb last year. Unfortunatly weeknds are all I've got at the mo!!
  21. 60mph winds here, thought it might be fun to climb!!! Only kiddin', looking up chippers and plans for a new Arboritum, thought I'd see how many others are sitting it out!! Gotta love working outdoors on days like this!!
  22. I looked briefly at those landforce chippers to, how do they measure up?
  23. Can I take it no one has a bad word to say about Greenmech chippers? I'm torn between Tw's and Greenmech
  24. Don't think he climbs anymore, but he still cycles to the college to lecture.
  25. Jack is still there. He taught me about CODIT last year.
