  1. Hi, some really nice reduction pics. Could use some advice. I've a friend with a pair of Fastagiata Hornbeams in her garden, she's unsure weither to reduce them or not. I'm happy to give it a go but worried they'll lose their shape too much, little help??
  2. More helpfull, thank you will check it out. Do you know anything about getting into the axe comps at the APF?
  3. Yeah, helpfull thanks!
  4. I recently watched a show called 'Lumberjack OK' that was on Channel 4, I don't know, about 10 or so years ago! It featured the Lumberjack challange which was run, and I guess still is, in America and Canada. The show was great, and I wondered if we run anything similar over here? I 've seen some of the axe comps at shows, but nothing as varied as they do in the USA. Does anyone know if we run anything like that? And how do you get into the axe comps? Are women allowed to enter? Any help on this would be great!
  5. I was felling a small Ash when it bounced off some Hawthorne and flew back at me, hitting me on the arm and knocking me to the ground. Escaped with some scratches and a very bruised and stiff arm. Scared the pooh out of my other half who was nearby, when she saw me hit the ground she didn't know weither to grab the phone or run over. I popped up quickly calling "I'm ok!" But was hurting quite alot. Still carried on felling for three hours after though, an't the credit crunch great!
  6. What were they missing? Experiance? Speed?
  7. A hoy hoy Is there anyone in Kent that I can get to check my climbing equipment? Need it for my liability insurance! Preferably near Maidstone or Tunbridge wells? Cheers

  16. The regrowth from coppicing will give you some good ground cover. I'd try and leave some decent standards though for some hight too.

  20. My old boss was unfortunate enough to have his mouth open at a really bad time:scared1:
  21. I've been strimming in my work since 2000, and have always used a clear face visor with ear muffs attatched (so the dog s**t doesn't go in your eyes), A pair of gloves (to stop my fingers going white), A pair of overalls (to protect me against stones and hogweed!!) and steel toe caps (to protect me toes). Hope thats usefull?
  22. On jobs like that do you think putting a sign up saying 'these trees have been checked for nests prior to work', would help?
  23. Chewing gum! Apparently it helps the memory!
  24. Just read that artical yesterday, I think the idea about logging hours is a great idea, at least then employers know what their taking on. I wouldn't mind following that system, you've got something to show for all your work then aswell.
