  1. I love the idea, but i found my rope twisted a hell of a lot too. They wouldn't cross like without the swivel, but it keeping twisting my VT sideways! Might try again next week and see how i go, its been over a year since i used it!
  2. I could not beleive how efficient these machines are at "eating" small trees and shrubs!! Brilliant bits if kit. Green Cuts Ltd. usually hire them with a driver but might be able to hire without
  3. I have been climbing trees for a few years now, and have always wanted to try rock climbing. Well, i am going tomorrow. Well excited!! I'm sure lots of you guys have tried it and some of you are probably regular rock climbers. Whats it like, i hear you need loads of strength in ya fingers!?!
  4. What sort of coin is on offer?
  5. Green Cuts Ltd. 01472 841000 Ask for Michael
  6. I have seen that German dude with the dreadlocks advertising it in the States last year saying he uses it. Everytime i saw poison ivy advertised over there it was saying that champions are using it, and listed em but can't remember all their names! But he was definately on the adverts! Sherrill say "1ST 2ND RD Bernd Straser, Ronny Epple, Dan Kraus. Poison Ivy & Hi-vy (11.7mm) No other rope can lay claim to being chosen by the top contenders in the 2006....."
  7. You could be attacked by Hornets, Bees or Wasps (Racoons in USA!!) that are living in the canopy and were not visable from ground level. You could get severe cramp and not be able to move, you could pass out from the heat in summer or if suffering from any pre-medical conditions (Asthma, Diabetic, etc.) You could dislodge a hanger that was not visable from the ground and it could fall and injure you before you reach the canopy! You never know when you might need to get down in an emergency!
  8. Looks like Mr. Woodpicker earned himself a brew! Nice work mate! :-)
  9. In my opinion that is completely rediculous! If the rope can be used in USA then why the hell hasn't it got a CE mark for use in Europe? Its obviously just some legal crap or something to do with payments and fees for certificates or some other bollocks! The rope is manufactured as ARBORIST ROPE and some claim it is the best in the world, and many world champion climbers are using it, so thats good enough for me. WHY IS IT NOT CE MARKED THEN????? PETER - CHEERS FOR THE LINK!
  10. B Trac? Where are they based? do they have a webpage?
  11. I cannot find poison Ivy on any English websites, just American ones! Might have to get some ordered and sent over!!!
  12. mmmmmmmmmm, interesting!!!
  13. When i was working in the States i was using poison Ivy climbing rope, i seem to remember it not having a CE mark, am i correct? Is anyone selling it in UK yet? And if it doesn't have a CE mark i am assuming i shouldn't really be using it in UK? Is this right? All the world champs seem to be climbing on it in competitions, so why is it not certified for use in Europe, seems a bit silly to me! It is bloody good rope!!
  14. Interesting stuff mate!
  15. I'm sure you knew all them from the top of your head Monkeyd!?!? :-) I'd have got about 5 or 6 of them without getting the books out! How about Taxodium, how many species and subspecies?
  16. I would be well up for a read of that mate!!!!! look forward to getting my mitts on a copy asap! Cheers!
  17. My only fear is that a twig gets stuck into the mechanism and it fails to grab the rope. This happened to my mate and he took a bit of a tumble. At least with a knot if anything goes wrong, it grips!! I'm a bit weary of mechanical devices, but suppose they have their place!
  18. Yeah, had a great day! Thanks to Frank for the transportation, Woodpicker for the use of his yard and trees, Scottie for the idea of a get together, Pete for the zipline and showing me his adjustable cambium saver (liked that!!) and to the pot noodle man for feeding me!! Regards, Ed
  19. Hey!! Burrell, you seemed to have enjoyed this thread! :-) You got the 5 Genera + Ginkgo which was all i was after really. Well done! Nice to get the old brain ticking! I know there are a few species of Larix and Taxodium, think the others are all monotypic tho!?! As for monkey puzzle, not seen one of them lose their leaves in winter before!! :-)
  20. A quick test for you all. How many deciduous conifers can you name? There are a few!! I'm sure the experienced guys on here can rattle a few off, but i just wanted to stimulate the minds of the up and coming arborists with this little quiz! Lets see how they do.....
  21. Drove past a street in Sheffield yesterday, the street trees were Alnus glutinosa and they are looking stunning at the moment with the male inflorescences hanging and swaying in the breeze! Didn't have my camera unfortunately, would have made a nice picture! Hazels in the hedgerows round here are looking awesome too. I love spring when all the deciduous trees and shrubs begin to grow again after the winter! Larch is one of my favourites, the colour of the buds in a month or two is just amazing!
  22. Hi,

I went for an interview at Bartletts in York about a year ago, can't remember the guy who interviewed me, he seemed really nice tho. I needed a climbing job quickly and then someone else offered me a job before Bartletts got back to me so i took it. 3 weeks later a letter arrived from Bartletts at York offering me a team-leaders job. Had to turn it down cos my new job had just bought me brand new kit and saws when i started. Shame, must be nice working around York mate! I live in Howden, bout 25 mins south of York.

    Regards,

    Ed

  23. Hi Reg,

I saw a couple of your videos recently, the one where you rigged a large tree in a back garden with laghooks and one where you dismantled a large tree with a crane. I have never done any crane work, but would love to have a go, but naturally i ama little cautious as i have no experience with cranes. Do you have any jobs on in the future involving cranes? And would you be willing to let me watch from a distance and admire your work?

    Regards,

    Ed

  24. Yeah, suppose so! I'll have to start doing that then! Makes sense!
  25. No one can take away the training we have already had! The point of having tickets is to prove you have met an acceptable standard in an assessment which is a requirement of some insurance companies etc. but if any situation ever went to court, we have had training and have passed tickets! NPTC could never ever make our tickets void and make us do everything again. There would be mayhem! I'm sure it will all be transferable to the new system, if / when it happens. Shouldn't we all be having 5yr refreshers in every unit anyway - it'll probably all be sorted and transferred then, and our tickets should be valid until our 5 years pass!?!?! Does this sound right to everyone else?
