  1. I like the word NORMALLY in that paragraph, leaves it open a bit surely!?!
  2. They looked a decent size! Nice job there!
  3. I rarely use a wireflip line, but i do have a soft-link on mine! I am always telling guys at work to put one in theirs! You never know when u might be glad u did add one!!
  4. I understand what your saying, but wouldn't it be awefully time consuming setting this up each time you move positions? Surely this is not how you guys dismantle poles on a day-to-day basis is it?
  5. If they are qualified to do MOT's, then yes! I'm sure if someone owned a taxi firm and a garage there would be no problem there! I would never turn a blind eye or go easy on my bosses gear, i would be 100% by the book! Are you saying i will not be allowed to inspect other employees equipment? Is this definate mate, or just your opinion? Cheers.
  6. Well at that price my boss will have me doing other companies kit too, its defo worth the cost of the training and assessment over ongoing costs of LOLER on kits every 6 months. But need to do it before end of March. Any courses anywhere?
  7. I was told i couldn't do my own kit by someone else, didn't know if that was true or not! If it is i think its total bollocks to be honest, but i don't want it to do my own, my boss wants to put me through it so i can do the other 8 kits at work! Better he pays for my kit to be examined and i do 8 of em rather than pay for 9 everytime!
  8. Who are the major competitors to Teupen for spiderlifts?? Must be some other companies making them at half the price, yet still equally capable of doing the job!?!?! Or not??
  9. I heard the same from a NPTC assessor, but was unsure if that was his opinion or if he really knew.
  10. Yeah, that was me i think. Ah, so you use a rope guide around the stem as a false crotch - got ya! I can see what you mean about been able to desend quickly to safety - a good idea!!!
  11. I did my MEWP certificate with NPTC, as i am an Arborist and all my other professional certificates for chainsaws and climbing are held with NPTC. I have heard rumors that i will not be allowed onto sites to work with a NPTC MEWP cert. Is this true? Do i need to do CPCS MEWP to get onto sites as a MEWP operator? Then there is IPAF. I am a bit lost with it all. So, i know guys who have CPCS MEWP and work on sites with a chainsaw in the basket, and actually hold no aerial treework qualifications, just CS30,31,32and33. How can they be allowed on sites and me not when i have had MEWP training as well as CS30,31,32,33,34,35,38,39,40,41. Who is more likely the better operator? Opinions and facts please gentlemen!!!
  12. I was just wondering how many of you hold NPTC unit CS47 for usinga chainsaw from a MEWP. I personally do not, but hold an NPTC MEWP certificate and CS40 and 41, but should really get CS47 to be using a saw from a platform? Personally, if you can dismantle and prune from a rope and harness i cannot see why you would need this cert. Maybe to prove you are not gonna drop sections on the MEWP, but thats common sense surely!?! (Even tho we have all done it at some point!)
  13. Can you explain in detail exactly what you mean here please. Cheers.
  14. That'll mean i can use it 2 weeks every year in the British climate then! ha,ha,ha!!
  15. I need to get on this course ASAP, don't care where it is in the country, i will travel. Hopefully there is a course somewhere before the end of march!?! Anyone know?
  16. Oh bugger, i was looking forward to that! :-( hope its on soon, would be worth a few giggles i reckon!
  17. I did my CS38 (aerial rescue) about 5 years now, and i was shown and practiced (once) a pole rescue on the course, but was not asked to demonstrate this in the assessment. I have spoke to people who are qualified to CS38 and never got shown this in there course. My point is, i climb regularly on site clearance work on spikes, topping out maybe 30 or 40 trees a day sometimes, and i am relying on a qualified CS38 rescuer in case of emergency and i suspect they have never been shown a pole rescue, and they certainly are not competent enough to carry one out under stressful conditions such as me bleeding with a MS200T hanging out my rib cage! Should the CS38 have a compulsory pole rescue? I think maybe so. If not, then CS38 should only allow them to be a rescue climber if spikes are not being used. Maybe the pole rescue could be incorporated into the CS41 (dismantling unit) and assessed along with the dismantling. What does everyone think!?!?! Definatley a flaw in the system tho when a trained aerial rescuer is relied upon by a climber who works regularly on spikes like myself. There are no guarantees that he knows how to do a pole rescue!!!
  18. Yeah, i can imagine there could be problems with condensation and saw dust sticking in the wet! But for the summer, i think the smoked visor will be ok. Not sure how long it'll stay in good condition tho, reckon they will scratch pretty quickly in our industry. Nevermind, i'll give it a try!
  19. 23GT sounds a great machine. only 0.98m wide, with about 11m reach i think and it can be towed behind a 4x4. Sweet!! Bet they are well expensive tho!!! 70Kish????
  20. Ordered my Stein helmet today in Grey with a smoke visor. Not sure if i'll get on with the visor but i will try it out and let you know what i think!
  21. Dirk Lingens (not 100% spelling is correct) has a good book of friction hitches and other knots used in tree work. Only bout 12 quid, worth a gander matey!
  22. Rung them today......they quoted me £29,950 for a 2 yr.old used LEO 15GT - doesn't sound right that does it!?! unless they have rocketed up in price recently with the Euro going tits up perhaps!?!?
  23. Ar, forgot to say....... those ladders up the tree are just awesome!!!! :-) I saw a similar picture in USA when i did a MEWP operators course over there last year, this one was a double ladder at full extention tied to the cab of a truck with a guy up there chainsawing off limbs as the truck was driven along - crazy bas%^$rds!!!!
  24. Anyone else ever turned a MEWP over? Must be somemore adrenaline junkies out there taking this up as a sport - tie yourself into a MEWP then tip the bugger over just for kicks!?! ha,ha! Justkidding - you were both very, very lucky! Imagine if it had gone over into the road and then hit by a 44 ton artic at 56mph - doesn't bear thinking about! Anymore MEWP horror stories folks? I've had the legs 8 inches off the floor on one side of our truck-mounted MEWP, but no competition for your efforts Dean!!
  25. where is the best place to look for a used LEO GT 15 or 18 then mate?
