  1. I am after buying some new rigging gear - i want a larger rope and block for blocking down big stuff. What diameter is best? I have always worked with thinner stuff but its time to get some heavier gear. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using say... 16mm or 19/20mm regards getting blocks and gear to match the rope? My pulleys at the moment will not take this size rope so i am gonna need to buy some heavy pulleys too? What does everyone recommend? Cheers, Ed
  2. I am after some chainsaw trousers. I keep trying them on and just cannot find anything that fits properly. I am 38" waist, quite large legs that are only 29" long. I am currently wearing the green SIP Protection ones with the orange pockets, they are ok but its like climbing with blankets on your legs! I had about 6 inches taken off the legs when i bought them and the person who did this struggled to sew them up they were that thick. I tried the Stihl pants, can get a fit, but the legs are mega long - so the knee protection actually is below my knees so even if i take em up i am gonna look a complete clown! What are the sizes like in the Stretch Air? Are they durable cos i generally give my trousers a good hammering - and want em to last and not rip the crotch apart on my first climb. What do all the other big fellas wear? Cheers, Ed
  3. Hi,

Hows the 880 performing? Did you fell the redwood you were talking about?

    Ed

  4. Showing off the pants or the big tree you felled Shreks Wee Brother? Where was the tree mate? She looks a big one!
  5. And the coinage????
  6. I think MEWP's have their place, but i prefer to climb most things. I work with a lot of guys who have "grown-up" in a company that uses MEWP's on a daily basis for roadside stuff, if even a remotely challenging climb crops up they move on to the next job and tell the boss that job needs the MEWP. Their skills are well below average and are never gonna improve! More trees should be climbed to improve skill level, can a risk assessment not justify a tree be climbed for training purposes?? Cos if so, mine will say that all day long! MEWP last resort for me!
  7. Green Cuts are a similar price i think
  8. Just looked in Sherrill 2008 Catalogue and Poison Ivy has a CE mark next to it, but blaze doesn't! How strange!!!
  9. yeah he got in touch cheers!
  10. Jesus wept, just spent an hour reading all these posts! F**k it, i never wanna tow or hear about towing anything ever again in my bloody life! Give me a rope and harness and let the old gits drive! I'll sleep in the truck on the way back to the yard! Yawn!!!!
  11. If this is true it is f**king rediculous!
  12. B R I L L I A N T S T U F F !!!!
  13. Contact the manufacturer with your problem, maybe they will repair them for free. It sounds like it is a common fault with the product!
  14. Are you certain? I thought a B+E was required for towing anything over 750kg, thats what DVLA told me anyway! So what does B+E entitle you to do then?
  15. At the end of the day, i am just gonna have to do the C and then the C+E and it can only make me more valuable to potential employers! Finding c1+e drivers is not an easy task these days! and it is only gonna get tougher as the older lads dissapear and the new boys come along with nothing more than a car driving licence! DVLA know this, as i said, money making scam!
  16. do not like what i am hearing! Total idiots these people! Just making it more and more difficult for the hard grafter to get on and earn a crust. They want a kick up their arse! HOWEVER, if that keeps people like my mother off the road then it can only be a good thing and make the roads a safer place for everyone! :-)
  17. Yeah, farmers get away with every f***ing thing! My boss is a farmer and he seems to be certain there is some loophole as he has the MEWP reistered as Agricultural plant. But then someone else told me this only entitles me to drive it 50 miles maximum from the base. Either way it is all a money making load of crap, gives more jobs to C1 and C1+e teachers! A big con IMO, when u get farmers towing around HUGE trailors the size of HGV
  18. I have been driving the MEWP at work which is 7.5 tonne chasis, but runs on red diesel, no tacho and no MOT etc, but i am not sure if this is legal!? Surely i still need a C1 licence? My boss thinks not, he says its classed as plant, so away i drive each week. I'm not too fussed, i'm a really steady driver and respect the size and power of any vehicle i drive, but if i'm breaking the law i would rather not be driving it to be honest. Any thoughts!??!
  19. Total bollocks isn't it! I cannot drive a car with a trailor over 750kg, yet my mother, who cannot reverse the car without a trailer on can drive a 7.5t lorry with a big trailer behind! What a wonderful law! I'm gonna have to wave 2K away at some point as well :-(
  20. Can't be that hard to get an assessment can it? Any yorkshireman out there with this cert???
  21. So has anyone got this odd CS46 unit? IMO... a pole rescue should be a compulsory part of the climbing and aerial rescue unit (formely CS38 - thats what i still refer to it as like most people!) Its crazy how legally a newly qualified aerial rescuer can be my rescue climber when i top out 80ft. pines all day next to a road on a site clearance job, and my potential rescuer has never tried spikes on his feet - i'm basically f£*ked if i need rescuing! One improvement i would definatley like to see to NPTC system!! Or another unit CS49 maybe.... "pole rescue", specifically dedicated to a pole rescue!! What are peoples opinions? Back to the Re-polarding...............Come on CS46 holders...... lets hear from ya!!!
  22. SO CS46 IS ONE OF THOSE UNITS NOBODY HAS, LIKE CS43 AND 44 - FELLING UTILITY POLES AND FELLING STANDING STEMS!?!?! SURELY IF I WANNA FELL A STANDING STEM THEN CS30, 31, 32 AND 33 WILL ENTITLE ME TO DO SO!?!?!? What are AE or E/A? I'm gonna feel silly when u tell me i bet, but i really don't know what it means! :-( BOB...... are you an assessor? someone on here said u might be able to assess me for CS47 - Chainsaw from MEWP?????? Can ya? I'll PM ya anyway!
  23. I'm using Yale Blaze at the mo, but ordered some poison Hi-vy to replace it, as its been well hammered over the last 18 months, it'll be demoted to my conifer rope once the poison Hi-vy arrives! Still cannot understand how a rope cannot be CE marked when its made by Yale and most of their other ropes have a CE mark - stupid european rules - if its good enough for USA surely its good enough for use in Europe!?!
  24. E x p e n s i v e !
