  1. thing is, what would you rather ..... ? Risk having a 'telling-off' from highways once in a while, or risk a member of the public being struck on the head. I know which one I'd prefer. Best thing is to be courteous to highways, inform them of the proposed works, they'll love you for it.
  2. My banks-man would escort him to safety We are supposed to use plastic barriers with two horizontal bars (the second, lower one is there so the white-stick will pick it up. As you can imagine its not always practical to carry a load of barriers round with us all day....its easier to stick one of the guys on ‘pedestrian duty’ - all about managing risk at the end of the day I suppose..
  3. Interesting pedestrian management there, is the coned passageway for the pedestrians or a safety zone for your guys? Over here I just tape off the pavement together with a pavement-closed sign (no arrow directing them in any direction) Its up to them then, and no liability on me! I concur with the hot chicks.....all women love arbs!
  4. You get a feel for how big it is by how long it takes to get the '200 through .....I'm amazed by how cool you were (only saying the 'F' word once, and then calling him by his Christian name) Excellent.
  5. Thanks guys.....I've heard there is a VERY NASTY one going around that knocks them out for weeks, God I hope its not that!
  6. Took my three year old boy to the garden centre this afternoon. We treated ourselves to some food and drink in the cafe, he turned pale, went quiet and then promptly was sick everywhere! Since then he's been sick every 15 minuets (you could set your watch by him) poor little lad Is this the 'bug' that been going round, anyone else experienced it?
  7. Very Nice ! Mind-you, I wouldn't savour lifting 30 traffic cones and a full set of Chapter-8 into the back of that!
  8. Not really unorthodox but here goes... Try leaving the 0200 on the deck and take the Silky up instead. I've done a fair few reductions on Norway maples with a Silky and its quite liberating! I also ditched the chainsaw boots for Scarpa Pro Ascents (when using the Silky) - much more grip, much lighter and without the 0200 strapped to your side, much more manoeuvrable.
  9. Not at all! Keep meaning to come and have a look at you guys, esp. as your on my door-step!
  10. ....should have been busy removing all that epicormic round the town.
  11. That sounds very expensive....Hasselband ?
  12. Great idea Andy! I still like my Norway maple on a frosty, foggy winters’ morning…
  13. Cheers Matt, the only reason I brought it up was that ST was never covered when I took my climbing ticket, all those years ago.....
  14. That was the trouble with the Green-mech chipper / shredder....just kept blocking!
  15. I’m on my two-day top-up first aid course this week at the West Midlands Ambulance Service H/Q. During lunch I raised the topic of Suspension Trauma / crush injuries with ref. to the Arb’ Industry. Basically if an injured climber has been suspended in the tree canopy for longer than 15 minutes don’t release the climber from the harness or indeed bring him / her to the ground. Toxins that have built up in the lower part of the body while suspended will be released causing kidney failure and could result in death. Expert medical care is needed when releasing the patient if the blood flow has been impaired for 15 minutes or more. Apologies if this has been covered before, just thought it was worth a mention… Here is a good link on Suspension Trauma… http://www.suspensiontrauma.info/introduction/
  16. Thats a fantastic picture Tony - is it your own work ?
  17. We have used both chippers and shredders. In my experience shredders get blocked more often than chippers. You can put a variety of material through a chipper but your limited to what you can put through a small shredder without it blocking...just my opinion.
  18. Could have used spikes on that with a clean conscience, eh Dave
  19. Uttoxeter ....? Where in Worcestershire is that...? Only kidding, glad to have you here Charlieh
