2. OH YES! ( BUT BEFORE IT STARTS A LARGE HSE DEBATE THEY WERE DEAD)
3. Fantastic idea, unfortunatly it has not always had the best press but some of us do actualy care about our work and the affect we have at times on the trees, unfortunatly some times we are driven to much by the RECs decision on what they require for tree clearance from conductors e.g growth rates.
4. And the sherry shop antics after wards makes it worth the trip, have you entered before.
5. I think this year it will be held at the university in canterbury on the tuesday of the arb association conferance, AUS utility supplies are the main organisers and sponsers a chap called Paul Hornby runs the main of the event with help from Bill Kewwinder,Paul Hansen and several other judging the diciplines. It would be great to get a few more private firms involved from the private sector.
6. :rauch06:Has any body on here taken part in the aus utility comp at the arb assoc conference before, I,ve competed now for 6 years and noticed alarger amount of private domestic tree outfits taking place especially last year,if there are we would would be more than willing to share some tips with you and and maybe get a thread going regarding the the different diciplines that take place. unfortunatly the camera died before we got to the tree climbing section but this basicly entails a work climb based loosely around the ISA comp and a rescue climb usually with a scenario thrown up by the judges, last year there was pole top rescue section thrown in which made it a very tight finish.
7. This is my second boxer, the child of the family, infact if the wife had to decide between me and him the bad winded bad breathed sofa wrecking bio oil drinking lazy git would win hands down every time

10. There's a lot of L200 for sale for a reason as far as I am concerned, there poor offroad, poor fuel economy and poor turning circle, I won't even go into the amount we sent back from a fleet that arrived at work with various bits falling off E.G. alternators, door handles etc.
11. How about some press regarding Utility Arb, I know we are still classed as the dark side to certain people but bearing in mind it is probably one of the largest employers in the Arb industry at present. Unfortunatly there are some poor practice still taking place in this side of the industry due to most companies employing joe bloggs straight from the street my own company included, but Im quite sure that with techniques and knowledge shared from both sides this could be greatly improved, how about a colunm on utility arb news each month Im quite sure some of us from the main service providers would be willing to help with input.
12. Hi mate are you working with Mark Hilton at the moment, if so give us a shout back
13. 12 years old, unfortunatly my father didn't work hands on again due to looseing total use of his right arm and long term internal damage, the doctors at the time estimated alife span afterwards of 10yrs max as per usual the awkard bugger proved them wrong and lived another 16 before he passed away in 1999.
14. will do, may be later in the week though as it is saved on the work computer and I are'nt in the office until thursday.
15. :deal:Had a few intresting near misses both climbing and felling, but I always have my Fathers accident in the back of mind to keep me on my toes. He was basicly crippled at the age of 35 when a large ash barber chaired, this through him up about 20 ft when it caught him in the rib cage, he ended up with 2 punctered lungs, both legs broken and all the nerves torn in his right arm which never regained any use with the trauma of the accident he went into a coma of which he came out 6months later. I carry out some inhouse training for my present company and use this true story and the aftermath in handouts for the trainees to read at brew time any one wanting a copy please feel free to ask as its never failed yet to bring a know all to heel in a group.
16. well if we are heading for another recession don't be afraid to diversify into other things, I remember the last one and I ended up going heavy plant operating for a local quarry part time to keep money coming in, but personally I think the Goverment control the ecomony far better now than the late eighties (not a Thatcher fan) in the favour of the general public.
17. you lot are living in bloody hope just been told by an old farm hand today that this year is set to be wetter than last year. now weres that number for noah
18. Certainly be intrested if the same could be put togethor down here say some were in the middle of the country.
19. sweet talk a fountains employee, they get the gortex smocks and trousers from fujikura which are the dogs for climbing and if which is bloody rare these days find an employee whose been there more than 5yrs he may have the old style aqua tex.
