  1. I was very similar when I left school, rebelling i think they call it, but about two years of been a little **** and I ended up working in the family saw mill just as father said.
  2. Exuse my spelling but the tree had garderma and for insurance reasons had to be removed, the butt was left at about 15foot for a chap to carve, sat on sofa with a sore shoulder at present remembering why I stopped climbing full time. Just to say the worlds a small place the other contractor in the pictures with the pinkish tshirt on is a chap called Anth Eaton, used to compete against him 10 years ago when navigating rally cars first time we have met since.
  3. Brought up on familys sawmill in north yorkshire left school and decided to give tree work a miss and went to catering college at harrogate, thrown out of college in second year for a liking of the amber nector, moved back home and worked for my father then moved out of trees again in to the heavy plant driving for a local quarry, then back to tree work anf fencing for a contractor, then moved to a large utility vegetation company for 10 years and still doing the same but with another veg company in the lakes working for united utilities. Still do the occasional climbing and fencing works etc but spend most of the time surveying and permissioning works on powerlines etc, hope to start a recreational tree climbing business in the near future but struggling to get finance to start at present so will just have save a some more4370[/ATTACH]
  4. more don,t leave the camera with a pervert:scared:
  5. Dismantling a beech at thirsk today at a private school, private work for a local contractor makes a change from powerlines, I am in the tree the screaming loon is the contractor, another day and half to finish.
  6. A previous company i worked for, had a company come in called Rite Light who supplied linesman Gear for the rail industry amongst other things, they had just completed the 6 monthly inspections as I started, the inspector never even uncoiled the lads ropes let alone checked karabiners etc he just marked every thing as fit foe use with either blue tape or a blue cablpe tie the bill for this £3500 for 25 kits, what did they get for this well actually bugger all no paperwork or transport records. I have always done my own kit and any teams working with me, I have the 3yr NARC course which in my opinion is much better than the NPTC course as it covers a larger variation of equipment. As for the start of this thread as far as I know you can inspect your own kit, you must keep a record of this inspection and a transport record should be availible at all times of equipment in use(this must be kept with kit at all times) on top of this there should be availible the certs of conformity for the equipment in use. What some people forget though is the 6Monthly or 12Monthly inspections do not mean the equipment will last another 6Months and should be treat like an MOT on your vehicle.
  7. No he deffinatly was'nt with us
  8. Do you mean kit Brown, he was'nt with us, shame really would of been right up his street:icon14:
  9. The ropes were'nt to bad to say it was sitka, i don't know wether thats because of it's size or age and yes Mr Pollard for free but he did get disco leg on the last 10foot LOL:scared:
  10. some more from scotland, the middle pictures is of a layered beech one of only 5 in the country.
  11. Chap on the right is Mike Pollard (polly)
  12. Just come back from our yearly trip to the Scottish AA get together, attached are the pictures of a days climbing on an 114ft Sitka spruce that we dead wooded and crown cleaned, you can also see bill Kew Winder's lads taking out a dead elm further down the grounds of Kicruvak castle.
  13. Richard Robertshaw and kieth Grady was who I used to deal with when we were doing the line clearance in that area, both sound blokes infact considering the reputation of line clearance one of the best councils I have dealt with.
  14. Yorkshire Tea Ringtons hand delivered for the special occasions:drunk:
  15. agee there and saw wrecker if you got a strong frost overnight with the saws in the back of the truck:icon14:
  16. when I was working for fountains, we had a load of trouble with saws nipping up part of which was operator error but we were also told by Andy white who does the majority of there testing not to use low ash burning oil on any saws under 50cc and pref not at all on saws that were been worked hard each day, huski supply both, my preferance has always been sthil or oregon but each to there own.
  17. from the weekend kart race, rained all race and came 11 from a grid of25 damn the rain and skinny people. if any of you fancy a laugh and a race in this championship karting go to stockton motor clubs web site and put your name forward it's £50 per race.
  18. I can as an employed person see the argument on both sides of this thread, but some of us on here are employed in the industry and also subbie out on weekends to other companies for an extra income when availible working under there insurance etc and the money is declared. And now for the rant on some threads on this forum guys talk of climbing with no rescue climber or with some one who can climb but has no tickets to say so, overloading pickups etc. When were all whiter than white maybe then we can start and and tell the weekend cowboy his work and work method is shite.
  19. That makes more sense it was wessex that are plymouth bretheren, reason i found out was the fact the fitter would not use the mobile phone in the workshop at fountains in leeds.
  20. I may be wrong but the makers or importers of the jenson chippers are a certain religius sect called the Plymouth Breatherton and do not have mobile phones, computers any radios in workshops and service vans.
  21. I have a merlin malt 2 from merlin cycles from preston lancs, brilliant value with no problems at all check there website http://www.merlincycles.co.uk they always have an offer of some form or another on, there other make is rock lobster both bikes start from around the £500 mark and are all disc specific either mechanical or hydrulic, tip though if your going hydrulic upgrade to the higher end of the market for your brakes.
  22. I suffered with the same problem a few years back and went to titanium spikes (nice and light) with what I think are called dowble pads form buxtons the pads are twice the depth of normal pads and if I remember right cost about £30 on there own with out the spikes. work in them all day with out a problem.
  23. just be carefull where you engrave on karabiners, if you mark them up on the gate as a lot of people do most examiners will fail them. if you order from places like sorbus all metal work comes lazer etched:icon14:
  24. Peter depending on what size your looking for fountains up in the north had some tool safes that came out of the back of a load of hilux and l200 sat about which i think they were trying to get rid of these were if you can picture it the same size square as an hilux back and the same hieght as a truckman top, they had two sliding draws one for chainsaws and one for climbing gear or put it another way enough room for 4 mens gear for the day, the draws both lock and the boxes were bolted to the van floor so could be bolted to a garage floor, if your intrested let me know and i will pm you a contact no:wave:
