    Dead Elms

nice vid. being a southerner ( who went to Newton Rigg) I dont remember seeing an elm that size.
  2. I had hoped to photograph the guy up the staging but by the time I had collected some monry nearby the guy was down.
  3. The Mewp has its place, there was little sound wood up this honey, so out came the hoist ,safer than climbing it. I would rather have the tree down but the owners wanted it trimmed up, whatever that is.So I ( re)topped it. The top lost up to 5 metres in height.
  4. hows this for a homebrew topping. sorry but the pic is a bit dark.
  5. are you sure your not just a soap dodger.
  6. your just a soap dodger.
  7. What % rate did you apply for nailer. I put in at 9% for forestry when i changed to flat rate 2 years ago.
  8. Good point steve. If you have a reasonable size business you can apply for an exemption certificate. Consult your tax office.
  9. I understand the official line to be. If you are instructed to remove a tree its waste. If you tell a client that a tree must be removed it may not be classed as waste. I paid my dues.
  10. Anyone good with a spanner? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHAINSAWS-JOB-LOT-STIHL-MS200-020T_W0QQitemZ220198583909QQihZ012QQcategoryZ139887QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
  11. They can see the big logo I have though, and the colours are unique to my firm the local area. In fact you could tell the difference between a dozen firms round here by the colour and print colour of their shirts,
  12. The original question was in relation to access platforms on vehicles. My machine was supplied ex-southern electric and was run on red. I have a letter from the customs and excise that states the following "As a result of the High court's decision relating to aerial platforms, I can confirm that the Department considers the two vehicles in question to be mobile cranes, and therefore 'excepted vehicles' under Schedule 1 of the Hydrocarbon Oil Duties Act 1979.As such these vehicles may use rebated gas oil providing they meet the definition of a mobile crane as per Schedule 1 "
  13. Forget the MEWP what about signs and guarding on an open site like that.

  21. my experience of the hilux off road was p155 poor. enough said .
  22. I've climbed a tiny redwood, 36 metres, in an Oak wood. Climbing above the oak canopy by 10 metres its like a sea of green. Must say getting into the canopy was dam hard work, but the chance to do 100m must be worth it. put it on the "things to do before I die list"
  23. Cerne dont be dismayed by age probs. I have groundies aged 47 and 54. They are better than the younsters, their mature attitude and steady work ethic are valued more than some cocky dynamo who spends half the day texting their mates.
  24. 3/8. keeps standard chains across the fleet shame the saw runs so bad
  25. WTF we are the best in the world at being beaten by the aussies.
