  1. My local TO made mistakes when they transferred paper maps to PC maps. I accidentally ( wrong info) felled a large Oak. Got off scott free but no apology offered for the stress.
  2. maybe you need to work on your charm school quota..
  3. possibly not cos I had to pay for the book separately "over the table"
  4. I had a scouser last week trying to sell me fall arrest harnesses. I told him not to bother calling tree surgeons for obvious reasons.
  5. Squirrels or judging by the carved letters Sheffield blight.
  6. I paid £ 50 cash for my climbing tickets, saturday morning back pocket job
  7. I used my throw line for the first time in weeks and lost the bag in a neighbours garden. I've had that one for nearly 8 years and one PITA tree... I always tie a slipknot in the line about 3 or 4" back from the connection with the bag and pinch that between my fingers to give leverage to the throw.
  8. yaw liv on tha rang sid et tha pannines eh.
  9. does MB wear a shirt like that on his days off?
  10. You couldn't get 19mm rope in this one. You must have the next size up.
  11. yes I just read the jewsons bit . I met Nigel Cutler from that way recently, seems nice but V old school. Ever run into TreeTech, Chris is a decent bloke too.
  12. Is this what you want to do? Make sure that you get it the right way round.
  13. Please put my name at the top of the list. ( How many here would like the knife but wouldn't buy the chippers? they should be cast out.)
  14. well the outside is synthetic, I have used mine for 2 years or more.
  15. years ago a old boy told me about somtheing called a "water bomb " which was a water vapour device fitted to the carb of a petrol engine to increase efficientcy. It would have been from the 1950's He is dead now so I cant ask him about it.
  16. I have one of those , its a tight fit. My mate uses the bigger grey one but that seemed too big to me.
  17. It depends how you treat the raw footage. I use the camera on fine definition there are 4 levels L, N, F, UF. The raw files are produced into a vid. The quality of the vid is dependent on the final use HQ DVD is better than streaming .mpeg for uploading to a website. I can't really say much more as I am new to this myself. I went middle of the road and can upgrade later if it works out ok. Cheap is always cheap, but expensive gives lots of features that my be a waste of time
  18. Had one on a mock last year. Took down about 3 stems.
  19. Did I miss somtheing in that vid cos there was enough room for a good man with a winch rather than a crane that did very little. re. OP. Unless you live in leafy parts of Surrey etc.. There are few properties with trees like that here. There is little call for cranes when the clients would not payfor them cos some skanky firm will climb it for 50 quid less.
  20. Can the description "topping" be reclassified as "phased removal" from now on?
  21. Hard Drive is the way forward. DL straight to PC or burn straight to DVD. I use a JVC Everio 34x optical zoom 40 gigabyte hard drive. cost about 350ish ( wifes christmas prezzie) I used it for my tree vids.
  22. The Arboricultural Consultants nightmare becomes the Conservationists wet dream.
  23. I think the latest issue (april)of Forestry Journal has further interesting reading in the Letters section regarding training, following on from previous editions .
  24. Just think of all the invertebrates that live in that trees cavities.
  25. I know there are lots of "professional tree care " businesses that could not do as well as that un-arb-educated individual. Also I recall in the original post he was an engineer worried about his tree. Hmmm. I think another engineer turned tree expert comes to mind, Herr Mattheck.
