  1. You can just see my groundy above and to the right of Willie's head. That probably wont help too much, but the Oak on the left is a LOT nearer than the Silver. Keep the guesses coming, my estimate was well out !!
  2. Ft. would be better.
  3. After Tom D 's origional guess the height, here's a before picture of a Silver Fir that i had to fell this week. What height do you think it is ? Hope i've attached the picture right. It's the one in the middle behind Willie Nelson.
  4. Been reading this thread with interest, as i feel it is time to retire my old Skybelt after 10 year's. Bloody hell there are some fancy looking harnesses out there! Tree motion, tree magic, kolibri etc. Make's you realise how quickly thing's improve in such a short time! Does anyone else still use the sky belt ? I think i'll have to try a few on to make a decision as suggested above in several post's, where in Scotland is there a supplier who will have a few in stock to try, or will i have to wait till the AA show to try them out ?
  5. Cheer's, well remembered!
  6. Crown knot no prob, it is then just tucking what where, that it seem's to go wrong. Probably starting off with quite stiff nylon rope isn't helping. I'll need to get something better/easier to work with!!
  7. Anyone able to suggest easy to follow book's/ website's that can show how to back splice and eye splice, as the old book's i've got arn't to clear on how to do it and it's driving me nut's. Using some 10 mm polyprop till i get it sussed. Starting to think i may find it easier with a thicker rope but the missus isn't too happy with me dragging a large coil of rope into the kitchen to "fanny about" as she put's it!!
  8. A "skip" that was the term i was looking for! Got a couple of quote's today, hardly big money to get one custom made. Cheapest £30 then £50 and last £150 plus vat!! Don't know what they were making the last one out of though. It's only a small 6 inch chipper i have, so i will just need to move the chip to get a decent load on! Thank's for the input guy's.
  9. I guess it may seem a bit odd to some folk discussing this on an Arb forum. But sharing info and experience's is what it's all about ultimately.
  10. This used to freak my little lad out as well, ended up either having to take a shower with him ,lifting him up to wash his hair not easy or very practical. Next solution that used to work was to get him to hold a face cloth on his forehead to stop the water/ shampoo getting in his eye's, and using a plastic jug to rinse it off, obviously by varying the height of the jug you can make a big game of it due to the mess. This sound's daft now but used to work a treat!! Now it isn't an issue , as they say it is just a phase which he will grow out of, and you and he will wonder what all the fuss was about. Good luck, they can drive you nut's at that age!! The jelly bath is great, look's just like wallpaper paste!!!
  11. Bet that nipped a bit!!!

    Tarp top

Just had hi-side's made for my 130 tipper, need to get a tarp made to cover the front half, to stop the dust blowing out every where when i chip into the back. Does anyone have any recommendation's/experience of where i could get one made?
  13. Look's great. How did you join the top to the leg's?
  14. Yeah it should be class 7 , i've got an exemption as i'm on an island with no class 7 tester. Which is nice.
  15. 92 ft.

  17. Bloody hell in my local boozer it's now £3.15 a pint of lager:thumbdown: Time for a new hobby i think!!
  18. Lid on top or side door's?
  19. Fairly big branch guy doesn't want to remove branch. Really he doesn't want to move swing either but as it's damaging the branch it has to go will try to get some pic's next week.
  20. I've a regular customer with a big Wellingtonia in his garden, at some point a rope swing has been looped round a limb, this has been there for a long time as the tree has started to grow around the rope. The rope is about 2/3 inch in diameter and my customer want's to remove the swing. Obviously the removal of the rope will reveal a large wound on the limb. What do you fella's think is the best thing to do totally remove the offending rope exposing the cambium, or cut the rope allowing the rope to loosen as the limb grow's obviously he doesn't want to have to remove the limb altogether. Any suggestion's would be usefull!
  21. Spoke to the bloke at N & J very helpful think that will be the route i'm going for. Just need to have a measure up to see how big it need's to be , don't want it to big or it will just end up with everything piled in and just end up a mess but also dont want it too small so that can't get everything in, anyone with idea's of a reasonable size, layout , feedback would be usefull. Also how to fit the drop side's on as well , or would they be better fixed permanately?. Decisions decision's.
  22. Stuart that's the sort of idea i was thinking along the line's of , did you build it yourself ?
  23. I've got the MTD ls 550 really good for the money , try Jonesy on here think he's a supplier for them doubt you'll get 'em much cheaper to be honest.
  24. Maplin's sell moisture meter's for £20, they do the job and are fairly well made, in as much as i haven't broken mine yet.
