  1. Dibna did make use a bow and arrow once for sending a line across a river or something! That was a good episode
  2. Thanks again for the votes. If she gets into the top 250 then there's an invitation to the semi final. She's got no chance if blonde Tom gets in there though!
  3. Good work you lot. She's moved up about 3000 places since since posting this thread. That's not 3000 votes though, don't know how it works. Anyway she said thanks very much
  4. My girlfriend has entered a competition to be a model for Next and would appreciate as many votes as possible. All you have to do is follow the link and click vote She said if she doesn't win then I get dumped Vote For Victoria From Clitheroe | Next Model Competition 2011 | Next Official Site
  5. Can't find that jacket on the net Danavan but it sounds good.
  6. Tried on a regatta hi-vis soft shell fleece today and thought that the cut would be quite suitable for wearing under a harness and the sleeves were nice and tight so you could see what you were doing with ropes etc. It was 30 quid which isn't bad but then saw this one and wondered about paying a bit more. High Visibility Workwear | Hi Viz Jackets | Panoply Moonlight High Visibility Softshell Jacket The stuff that work provides is a bit crap because it isn't breathable and the sleeves are huge, which gets in the way. What do other folk recommend?
  7. Good pics. I would call that a single fishermans. A double fishermans is used to tie two ends of line together
  8. I agree with ELG. We all have stress in one way or another but its about how you deal with it. Working with other people is the most stress inducing part of the job, or any job for that matter! Positives are endless. The main one for me is climbing for a living
  9. That sounds alright its for recreational purposes anyway
  10. Has anyone got one of these waterproof jackets? I'm looking for a new raincoat since we've been having all this heavy rain
  11. This isn't self tending but this is a very simple and effective way of climbing. Basically it is a Knut with the addition of a piece of friction cord, larks footed to the bottom of the hitch to prevent it from over-tightening during use. I have been climbing this way for a couple of years now and find it really reliable and useful. Tom D has inspired me to post this after seeing how he has implemented a piece of cord to adjust his friction hitch. When pulling through slack it is not super smooth as when using a hitch climber and if not set quite right it may be difficult to tend using one hand. Having said that I've only tried this with three different cord types. Unlike using a hitch climber, the Knut/knot always grips and with minimal sit-back. Upon observation I have found that this is due to the friction cord maintaining adequate contact with the climbing line when the knot is broken. Give it a go. I would recommend this for someone wanting to progress from prussik or blakes to a more advanced climbing system, without taking a big leap so to speak. P.s oval crab is not really suitable for this purpose but I just put one to hold the knot for the picture. Use a pear shaped crab to allow terminal end of climbing line to be clipped in to the same crab.
  12. I don't quite understand Ben. Do you like the euro gaffs now after struggling with them at first?
  13. I think that picture might show the ring in 'bite or gripping' position. When the hitch is advanced I reckon the ring moves to a horizontal plane to allow free passage of the climbing line. Am I close?
  14. Just wondering do Gecko's come with euro gaffs unless others are requested? Do suppliers tend to ask what is the preferred gaff type when taking an order or not? I'm having a right old hard time getting used to the euros and the boss thinks I'm being awkward.

    Jumpers

excellent idea. I think its time to invest in one

    Jumpers

I don't buy clothes very often but I'm having a hard time finding a good wool jumper. Can you recommend a retailer that sells nice stuff? I once had a nice wool jumper that my swiss mate gave me ( think it was snowboarders wear) and wore it all the time till one day I shrunk it! I like wool because its functional but you can wear it out on casual occasions too.
  17. At least 2x diameter of rope for tails in knots as far as I'm aware. Where do you get this information from Ross?
  18. It can self tend without a pulley therefore a good transition knot for climbers progressing from blakes or prussik to hitchclimber with vt or other.
  19. If its just a nightmare on willow I could nearly live with that however, American short gaffs seem to be the most popular so far and they are the ones I'm used to climbing on. Thanks for the tip on loctite Morten. If I manage to get a the gaffs changed I'll bear that in mind.
  20. If only it was that straight forward at our work. We have to go through 3 managers to get something like that cleared! You are right though. Mine are the european style then there are long and short american style.
  21. Maybe a different style of spiking will have to be adopted then because I don't think I'll be able to get them changed.
  22. In terms of comfort its no comparison to the treemotion I have at home
