I’ve had an Audi Etron 55 for over two years now. Purely a family car. Not been a bother at all. Charges quicker than other with the Eessee box we have installed. Get just under 4 hundred KM on full charge. Only usually charge to 80% for daily use. The infrastructure we have here in Norway is geared for electric, cheaper parking, sometimes free, get to use bus lanes and cheaper tolls. If just had the 30000km checkup service which was free as part of the deal when I bought it. It is plenty fast and has loads of torque when motorway driving and generally German Audi build quality and finish. Very happy with it and would have another.

One the family members renovated his cabin by joining two bought log cabins. He constructed them himself. Their cabin is in Ål. There are companies down in the valley where he bought from. They are prepared and built then dismantled and numbered AFAIK for the customer to build themselves. I have messaged him and when he get back to me I will let you know. This is one of the companies, don’t know if it is where he bought from, but they specialise in Furu. I think it also depends on how much you imbibe. Regular smokers have it in their system for longer. It is strange how the harder the drug, the quicker the body works to expel it from the system. Yet the least harmful drugs, seem to stay in the system for a lot longer.

Now who is ranting.? No, I feel it is relevant. So many are finding it hard to find staff. It wasn’t the reasoning behind your text is was the stab at the starter of this thread saying he wasn’t fit to run a business that I thought was out of order. If you read my post you would see I agree with most of what you had written My rant was at naive individuals, not directly you, Especially regarding the drinking of alcohol comments.

I have a couple of Stihl Ms200t’s still running, both modded by Steve. A couple of 150t’s with timing advance and exhaust mods, a 194t with exhaust mod. And a few bigger saws that get used regularly. The 194t is a great saw. I use it for most things other than pruning these days. I did use a leccy Stihl the other day. 220 top handle or something. 2 cuts later and I changed for the 194t. The whole point to me is to have a light saw for the power. I pruned with 200t’s for years until the 150 came out. Surprisingly the wrist issues and tennis elbow disappeared almost at the same time. The 220 had not enough power and was extra heavy to be worth even considering for me. Plus my mate used it and the battery lasted one tree. You could argue sometimes a tree takes a tank of fuel etc, but it is quicker and easier to fill up, plus batteries are expensive.

Rails, Electric, highways and waterway is a far from the whole of the Arb industry in the UK. I have never worked for or had the desire to work for a contractor that works purely in the above sectors. I am well aware that they have random testing and quite rightly so. There are a lot of other Arb companies in the UK who don’t do that work.

Where about are you based? How long have you worked in Arb? IME there are a hell of a lot of wreck heads in this line of work in the UK. I lived and worked in South East London for 16 years before I moved to Norway. There are levels to these things. Of course if you have contracts that require random Drug and Alcohol tests then that is a necessity. Most companies don’t have those obligations… So to take a stab at someone saying they are not fit to run a business because they have a user on the crew, is a bit out of line IMO. As for the naive, hypocritical people who think that drinking the night before is OK but drugs deserve them to receive a smack over the head with a shovel and then kicked off site. Get a fucking grip. What type of drugs warrant a smack with a shovel? Serious question? Coffee? Cocodamol? Oxycontin? Weed? Tobacco? Alcohol? Poppers? Amphetamines? Anti depressants? Allergy tablets? Night nurse? Cocaine? Heroin? any others? They all have an effect on the person who takes them. FTR I have worked with and don’t appreciate working with people who have had a skinful the night before. Yet have worked with many a productive person who has had a joint the night before. I don’t condone drinking and being hungover at all in this industry. Nor taking drugs whilst at work. The only thing warranting a smack over the head with a shovel is a crack head trying to steel my shit at lunch time. As I said, there are levels. Now to address the original post. Would you have known if he hadn’t dropped the baggie? Was he generally a productive and safe climber who contributes to a good atmosphere and is a team player? IMO it was his fault to have it on site and drop it during the days work. For that you need to have a word and decide if you need to take action. He will have lost his own job through his own actions. Of course if he has a major problem and can’t make it through a day without a line then he also has a problem. A problem that requires money to fill his wants. Again a dumb decision on his part for getting caught so deserves to go.

I organised a PICUS test for a customers tree earlier in the year as they were concerned about the age and winds from the fjord. Tree stem was sound at the test height, but there was a bit of die back within the upper crown. Small amounts of deadwood and a lift required over the roof to try and reduce the moss growing on the roof. Went there on Wednesday for a quick half day and knocked it out. Customer happy and should last a few more years now.

Reminds me of the Golden Spruce that was felled by Grant Hadwin in Canada. he felled that one to protest at the disgust of logging industry. he was apperently bi polar. don’t think the 16 yo would have similar motives though.

Not post Brexit for me. I did make the move to Norway 6 years ago. But my missus and kids are Norwegian. Well the kids are Half and half. The rules changed post Brexit, there are ways around the rules but it certainly isn’t as easy as it was when UK was in the EU. Good luck. there was a guy in here looking for climbers to work in Germany.
