  1. No such thing as "a patch" in this game, lol, we ain't drug dealers!
  2. Or just increase your prices to reduce demand
  3. Free market mate, if as you say you did not use the contact you had with the customer while you were working for the other guy to get this job then it's his look out for not retaining his customer. As has been said if he is someone you don't want to fall out with give him a call.
  4. If you have enough work the grab lorry will make you far, far, far, more profit!! Plus it won't call in to say it got a hangover, have girlfriend trouble, hurt themselves and put in a claim or set up in competition!
  5. Did they tell you why they did not get a quote of him? Or did you beat his price?
  6. Interesting!! I had some petrol that smelt like thinners and looked cloudy, whilst using it the pot and piston on my ms200 became scored thumbdown:
  7. I never talk day rate, it depends so much on how much you can do in a day. I know I make more a day than most of my competitors, but I am often cheaper than them
  8. That sounds like a good place to shelter to me!! Although I doubt you'll stay "dry"
  9. Very good points made there Ian, I have got a lot of kit, but I always waited till I had the work to justify the gear! I made do with a 3.5 tonner until I was working 5 days flat out, always full (or over:blushing:) so when I bought my first mog I was able to do in 5 days what would have taken 6 or 7 days with the 3.5 tonner, so the mog was paying for its self and making me more profit:001_cool: As I said to a guy who was saying he wanted to get a mog "they don't come with an order book full of jobs under the seat". Get the work FIRST, not the gear, IMO.
  10. BUT...............which would you prefer to do?????????
  11. Nail on the head there Dean!!!!!!!! Bits of paper mean bugger all!!!!,IME.
  12. I'm a climber/faller who reluctantly has to run a business, as no one will pay me £35,000 PA.
  13. Debatable, IMO, the fire service do risk assessment these days and are not allowed to put them selves in danger!
  14. The problem is too many people want to do this work! There is always someone on here asking how to get into the industry, its simple the laws of supply and demand, if there is a surplus of supply the price falls. The fire men a few years ago got very upset because tube drivers were on £34,000 a year and they were on £25,000, the problem was that there was a shortage of people wanting to drive trains so the wage was increased until it attracted people to do the job. Whereas for every vacancy in the fire service there were 80 applicants! so why pay more?

    pay

    I pay my man/men weekly.
  16. Another tip Steve, when I bought my mog it was £45,000+VAT so there was £8,000 of VAT, put £15,000 down and borrowed £30,000, the bank also lent me the VAT for three months, it was added to my third repayment once I had claimed it back!
  17. Forbidden corner Richmond, I believe.
  18. I'll be there all three days staying over two nights.
  19. The man on the rope did not let it run!
  20. I had a U1100 which I made tip left or right with electric tipping gear.
