  1. So true mate!! It can be truly terrifying!!!! Such a relief when they can explain themselves better, can understand the things you tell them and have a bit more weight about them.
  2. Thats what I do, all prices should, imo, have a bit on to cover what I call the "f***up factor"
  3. I'm the same. I hear that some climber plan the climb from the ground, I have never found I could do that. I am always surprised how different things look once I get up in the tree. Very often I look at a tree and think "thats going to be tricky, not much room to drop stuff", then I get up there and is easy. And it also often works the other way.
  4. This is an interesting topic, IMO. How do you guys estimate the size of a tree?? Does any one measure trees a breast hight?? I am not great at estimating tree size, often when I get to a job, that I have priced, I find the tree is much bigger than I thought. Fortunately they are just as often smaller than I thought. The trees location seems to really influence how big it appearers to be, IE, if it is surrounded by other large trees it seems smaller. I am also often surprised by the size of limbs, once I climb up to them, is it just me?? or do others find the same??
  5. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice one, made me laugh!!
  6. Just don't have the time or the inclination. I can make far more money taking em down than chopping em up
  7. I was going to go into fire wood retail, but I don't really want the hassle, so I am selling it wholesale in lengths. I have an as new posch spaltfix 280 processor for sale if any one is interested.
  8. As I have said many, many times before, if MEWPS are faster, why do my competitors not get a MEWP and take all the work???
  9. I have four mate. Tom 13, Charlie 12, Lizzy 6 and Izzy 4. The boys are fine, which given it supposed to mainly affect under 14's is strange.
  10. It seems it affects mainly those under 14 years, it is likely that there was an earlier, less serious, stain of the virus around 14 or so years ago, so if you had that you will have some immunity. Obviously there will be some older people who never had the earlier strain, so are still at risk.
  11. In 15 years of climbing, I have NEVER washed any of my gear, with the exception of sticking crabs.
  12. We started giving my 6 year old the tamiflu, but it made her vomit, so we stopped, never even got it for the 4 year old.
  13. Sorry I missed this earlier. The reason I mentioned antibiotics in relation to flue deaths, is that flue deaths are normally cause by secondary infections, such as pneumonia, which are bacterial and that is why before 1942 (when penicillin was discovered) flue was a much bigger killer.
  14. Hows he doing Rich???? Mine are fully recovered now, phew!!
  15. I totally agree Tom. The way I see it the AA is run by "business men" not "tree men" or "climbers". If you are a business man running a tree firm, your main expenditure is on skilled labour, IE climbers. If they can "deskill" the industry by getting rid of climbers, the big firms, like their's, can afford to have a range of MEWPS to deal with different sites. And finding guys to stick in MEWPS is way cheaper than finding skilled, prodution speed climbers. AND if the small, skilled, owner climber firms are squeezed out buy legislation, the fact that MEWPS are slower will not matter. The problem as I see it, is the kind of people who want to get involved in things like the AA, are very different to a guy who just wants to climb trees and provide for his family. Its like politics, the people who SHOULD be politicians, DON'T want to be.
  16. I just HATE mud!!!!!!!! Your boots just get bigger and heavier as the day goes by!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I would just get "Stump busters" in. I have two stump grinders, a Vermeer 252 and a pedestrian Carlton, but I often get "Stump busters" in. I have 5 fairly large Elm stumps to do next week, its more cost effective for me to get "SB" in, and put a % on for me
  18. Although I NEVER leave pegs
  19. Fungi spores are EVERYWHERE, they just need the right conditions to grow
  20. You are just such a pro mate!!!
  21. Whys he not at the top??
