  1. wasn't that the garage that got someone else to do their tree ???
  2. I'd better start looking for one then
  3. That an important point!! I don't think these cuts can be relied upon 100%, with all the experience in the world they will sometimes go wrong. The guy in the vids was trying to limit damage to trees that were being retained and reduce the work if retrieving the timber. So if it had not worked out no big deal. As for his safety, he looked in FULL control at all times, to me
  4. Shallow gob that snapped the hinge before the tree hit the ground, and a low back cut so nothing to stop it sliding back. I think
  5. I was waiting for this one I don't think there is much chance of an "unwanted" tree living to a good age, its also in the grounds of a modern building which will have a fairly limited life, so in the not too distant future the site will no doubt be redeveloped. So IMO that tree is not a candidate for becoming a veteran, maybe I'm wrong. But I would concentrate on protecting loved trees in good locations.
  6. It was YOUwho suggested a winch!!!!!!!!!!!!! So come on where YOUR vid?????????????????????????
  7. The slope is shorter than the hight of the tree, the portion of the tree that sticks up beyond the top of the slope will snap off as the tree hits the deck, so by sliding the tree back down the slope less timber is lost. I think
  8. Yes I heard the same!!! And its bloody expensive
  9. He only pulled, at the very most, a couple of feet of fibres!! which on a 200ft log ain't too bad and on the last one he saved 20ft of log. And as time is money, he saved way more than the value of a little lost timber by not having to have a winch and winch man.
  10. Good stuff!! Its hard to see what he's doing on the first and third ones, but you get the general idea. He doesn't stick to the NPTC cuts, I guess his insurance is invalid
  11. LOL!!!!!!!! I know that feeling!!!!!
  12. For me VERY old trees, trees that are hundreds of years old are fairly rare, the ones that are over 500 years old are very rare and IMO should be protected with the full force of the law and I would make it law that trees of this sort DON'T belong to the land owner but are national treasures and I would have them maintained out of the public purse. As for trees such as this Maple, if I lived there I would prefer the river view and if I owned the tree and the council stopped me felling it I'd be more than a little miffed.
  13. You gonna get a consultant in first Mick, to make sure the tree is safe before you climb it???? .
  14. IMO, it make a BIG difference if you OWN the tree. If you damage or kill a tree that does not belong to you, they should throw the book at you.
  15. LOL!!!!!!!!! You should have shot the Squirrel and had it for breakfast mate!!!
