  1. What intelligent way to respond I bet that was a great advert for his Co, I'm sure it got him loads more work. If the house holder took him to court do you think he would come across a reasonable person??? The house holder would say the work was not carried out correctly, so they had not payed, his actions have strengthened their case. He is a fool, IMO.
  2. You are helping to create the very situation about which you are complaining. If you cut corners to under cut the competition, they are often left with no alternative but to also cut corners to survive. So the situation just gets worse. Are you paying tax and NI on the money you earn?? I have NO sympathy for the taxi driver, how dare he put other peoples livelihoods at risk for his own gain!!!! IMHO, any one working without insurance should be ashamed of them selves, I have never and will never work without it. If you can't afford to get insurance for high work, get cheaper insurance and only take on the work you have cover for.
  3. You have missed the whole point, you DON'T need EL if you are "genuinely" subbing the work out, THEY DO!! You do need EL if you allow ANYONE to assist you in your work.
  4. How the hell did they loose the war?????????????? Love the translation!!
  5. The main problems I have with door knockers are, 1. they are unsolicited, why are they calling without an appointment? is what ever they are selling poor quality or stolen? 2. they are untraceable, if I contact someone in the first instance, I can recontact them if there is a problem. 3. they often use intimidation to get a deal. 4. some use cold calling to "case the joint" or check if anyone is home. I am in no way saying that all people who cold call are criminals, BUT by using this method there is a risk of being associated with them.
  6. The problem with that is it will not fall flat, the step will hold the butt end a bit which makes the limb swing in a little, which means it can end up damaging the trunk (if the tree is being retained) or foul your rope.
  7. Would that not be more suited to a large chipper that can take LOTS of wood???
  8. Lancstree does mine, he's not a million miles from you.
  9. Looks good!! Its much easier working green wood as its much softer, for SOME things SOFT wood is better
  10. Must disagree, a local farmer lost 2 dairy cows when they ate some Yew clippings a house holder had thrown over their fence into the field
  11. Mark if you borrowing from a bank you may be better buying new, as they are often happier lending for new and will often lend over a longer period for new stuff.
  12. I would not want to do that!! IMO, if the finance Co don't think the equipment is worth the money you are borrowing, then I would not want to buy it.
  13. Mine all ends up on the chip pile at the farm, never had a problem, as has been said it can be grazed without ill effects to stock so should not be a problem. I don't put Yew or Rhododendron on the pile for bedding, as they are both poisonous too stock.
  14. :confused1: What tin????????:confused1:
  15. Mark, When I bought my first chipper (chippit 25), I was in the same position. The bank said NO!!. My mum borrowed the money for me and I set up a DD out of my account into hers to pay it off. At the time my wife was very unhappy about me borrowing £8K. It was the single most important business decision I ever made and I have never looked back. Don't give up mate, make it happen. The annoying thing is in a few years time, when you are doing really well the banks will be pestering you!!!
  16. :confused1:The "asset finance" I have always done has always been secured against the equipment I'm buying.
  17. :confused1:In what way did he agree with you????????? Or do you mean he forgave you????????????
  18. OR!!! you could put the hopper horizontal and add some kind of feeding mecanisam...........................maybe some steel sort of roller type things to pull the bash in.................... what you think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good idea???? Or am I being stupid????
