  1. Yes, they broke off the padlock (it was only a cheap one)
  2. Went out on Friday night, to a Xmas bash and got home at 2.30AM. So last night my Mrs asked me to shut our large GSD in his kennel so he would not bark and we could have a lie in. BIG mistake!!!!!!!!! In the night some scum bag has parked in a lay by on the road and came across the field to my yard. If Max (our dog) had been out he would have either scared them off or alerted me to their presence!! It was some one on their own and they only got away with the 088 and hs81 hedge cutters. I hope he comes back tonight, as I would love a little chat with him
  3. So have resent revaluations regarding emails and fudged data in any way changed you views????????????????????????????
  4. I think you could well be right. People buy wood burners and seem to think that wood is really cheap or free. Once they realise how expensive it is and how much work is involved in fueling and maintaining a stove many lose interest. I personally would not want the hassle of heating my home using an indoor stove, burning spit logs. I used to heat my old home with a would burner with back boiler, it was a lot of work and the house was always cold in a morning I now heat my home with a big out door wood burning boiler that takes large lumps of timber up to 6' long and only needs loading ever day or so.
  5. My advice would be to contact Alex Price, AC Price Engineering. I'll get you his email if you like, or you can contact him through there web site. I noticed he had a hydraulic driven front mount Ducker chipper, in the yard last time I was up there. I know he has shipped mogs and parts all over the world. I'm up at Alex's on Monday, I will ask him about it if you like.
  6. Is it just me or does anyone else hear the sound of frantic "back pedaling" Also Tim how do you know people don't mind being asked for more money, if you have NEVER done it???????????????????
  7. I'm not sure that would be very good for the car park!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Looks nice, hope it performs better than the old ones. I used one once it was awful!!!!!!!
  9. :confused1:How did you manage to get the price so far out?????????
  10. You missed out the MAYBE Thats not nice:sneaky2: But in no way unexpected from you.
  11. You clearly feel my business model does not work, but I NEVER only break even, I ALWAYS make a profit and alway have Maybe I'm just better at pricing than you, if asking for more keeps you in business keep it up. My way works for me, so I'll stick to it.
  12. So you want a one way steet, the price goes up if you under price, but not down when you over price You would not work for me.
  13. Maybe you need to be brave and put in a proper price and have guts to stick to it
  14. At the start of this thread it is made very clear that Tom cocked up. The tree has not grown in size since the quote, it has not moved further from the nearest access. In what way do our jobs become more complicated?? If it takes longer than we expected that is down to our POOR JUDGMENT!! and is not the customers fault. How can a customer get three quotes to compare prices if some are going to up the price once they have won the job and begun??? How would you feel if you put in a "proper" quote for a job, but are beaten by a cheaper quote, then once the winner begins the job he ups the price:sneaky2: If this is acceptable why not just put in low quotes for all your jobs, so you win them all, then just up the price once you start???
  15. Very occasionally and only a ever £20 or £30. This IMO is one of the best forms of advertising, as it shows you are never out to just make every penny you can and they soon tell their friends.
  16. If that how you feel DON'T give quotes, give estimates, simples. In 15 years I have NEVER upped the price after agree a price and starting. If want to get a reputation for giving one price and charging another thats fine, but I ain't going to ruin my PROFESSIONAL reputation by doing it If someone gives me a QUOTE I expect them to stick to it.
  17. Come on!! its a lot easier to have a look inside a hedge when quoting, than it is to look inside a gearbox You have are saying there is a "difference" between quote and a price??:confused1:IMO they ARE the same, an "estimate" on the other hand is IMO a guild price that can go up or down.
  18. I really do disagree, IMO there is a VERY REAL difference. I ALWAYS give quotes All my advertising says free quotes. If you give an estimate, that fine you can charge more, as you have not committed to a specific price.
  19. With our work you can see exactly what is involved in the job, so as "professionals" we should be able to give a price and stick to it. Mechanics and the like can't always be sure of whats they are going to find once they begin.
  20. :confused1:Which do you give??? BIG difference!!!
  21. I would have to agree. I give a price and stick to it.
  22. Had a of bird and a couple of bats down our chimney. I'm not sure the bird was lucky that the fire was not lit, I don't think it would have come down if it had been lit.
  23. Good stuff John!!!! Remember us when your famous!!
