as has been said is site dependent and also largely office dependent in that if the staff arent aware of bio fuel/ bio oil etc then its not normally asked for, I know several SAC (european designated sites) round here rarely have any such restrictions placed on them for small tools but larger plant such as excavators etc will now normally have to be on bio oils. Its always a good selling point on tenders, but i think the method of work counts for as much as anything

i know, thing is they didnt like where they were reintroduced to spread really quickly then went into rapid decline over the last 100 yrs or so, its like black grouse in say 1910-1920 there were black grouse in most English counties! caper are fantastic though most i have seen is 5 females in one tree when out surveying outside aviemore, you quickly get your eye into the type of habitat your likely to find them in, that and having a few radio tagged always helps

7 is standard, 8 will be 14% quicker but on a 36" bar on a 660 i would stick with the 7 as i think even when modded you wont have to torque to pull the chain with authority on an 8pin sproket I run 8 on a 36" bar on an 084 but wouldnt do it on a smaller saw

sorry but anything over 15" requires a serious saw to run it :lol: (not ideal on fuel efficency for ringing up firewood the otherday but my god was it quick)

i had 18 on my old 254xp and it wasnt great, 15 would be better then again i wouldnt run 18 on a 346 unless i really had to

the 6mtrs is what is standard on their agricultural contractors policy, after much lengthy discussion its now got to 20mtrs as thats the maximium their underwritters will insure against, so any more than that requires that they get written authorisation from their head office, but 65ft really isnt ideal still.

interesting I was told i couldnt take PA2 on my ATV when i did it, main thing is really inspect the sprayer properly pumps servicable etc, also carry out all the machine checks as per your atv training, be thorough on this section

I was paying £14.20 but the dealer has decided no longer to stock it, as its to dear and no body is buying it anymore, that and there are now loads of dealers selling it so the ones that were supplying it have had their market diluted to a point where its not viable,

i tried to explain that tree diameter was normally the bigger issue than height and thats how the training and accrediation is worked out on diameter, but nope they see height as a bigger risk, so it can be 10ft dbh but no taller than 45ft

the organisations im quoting for work for require me to have £5m P.L. forestry and spraying

i know they issue height restrictions for climbing which doesnt bother me as i dont climb but limiting the size of tree to 45ft is stupid

Just got of the phone to NFU about a load of insurance bits, three weeks after having a 2hr meeting with them discussing the policy and still no quote. One of the clauses that was just read to me was for forestry and felling work tree height could not exceed 15mts no questions about my tickets etc just that i wasnt expect to fell trees over this height, so after a few words im waiting to hear back in an hour if they will ammend this. Has anyone else with NFU had this? or checked your small print

Although this is industry accepted as being suitable for refresher training in doing a new ticket, i know several large conservation bodies and utilities firms that wont accept this, they want to see refreshers for all courses still keeps LANTRA/NPTC in business i suppose

i would contact some traditional bow makes, although from memory they would want 6fts not 5 but that would probably yield a good return for little effort for a few phone calls,

saw this at weird and wonderful wood at the weekend, nice and simple really and look great, some of the fittings people were using looked pretty industrial and didnt suit the timber really, but i really liked this simple dovetail

hmmm think that will have to wait, fancy a 560xpg though although the 372 does a grand job and the new 346xpg is an awesome saw no replacement for displacement, stihl fs550 for clearing saw, destroyer of large areas of scrub in a hurry oh and back to the original question, yes its mint doing forestry work
