  1. Sometimes, it is best to take it back to your nearest dealer and pay them to do stuff. That frees you up to earn while you spend! Once you start to strip down the assembly, things should become clear how it goes together. Is there no exploded tiaras in the owners or parts manual?
  2. Blimey Tim, you were busy with that! Being on the Isle might be a benefit or a hindrance too! Ring Ted and see if he knows anyone? He might be at home with it being windy - or he may have packed for a few days and gone on Monday!
  3. Folk with that size kit will travel and charge! Trouble is, at the moment, everyone will be busy with HS2 and other projects ahead of the birds nesting season! What kind of job and site us it? Get as many details together and someone may be able to respond. Does it need chipping or will a mulcher do? Is the chip to stay or go? Whats the access/terrain like? Blah blah blah!
  4. I reckon Lee at Greentec Ufkes UK up in North Yorkshire would hire out the 942 he brought off of Beaver Plant, try him.....how long is the job? There are plenty of folk that would come and do the job for you but hire units will be thin on the ground....

  7. The damage may already be done to the bearings but you want to avoid the possibility of the shear bar getting clouted by a passing blade. I believe that hydraulic tank forms part of the rotor housing/fabrication and damage to that on top of the blades/shear bars could be catastrophic! Best get it booked in for the bearing swap. Prolonged further use could also damage the shaft and add ore expense!
  8. Eating through AdBlue now and seems to be leaking oil from from shaft at front drive assembly from gearbox. Tell tale was little spots of stuff on the trailer - thought (hoped) it was a leak from Adblue as we are getting through that, but no, starts at the front! Adblue......put 20ltrs in just before Xmas at about 103k, put 20 ltrs in at about 106k and just put another load in at 107K! Ringing the garage tomorrow.....
  9. Sometimes, bolt torque and tappet settings can be common to other similar engines etc, try some lateral thinking and find the bolt sizes then look at other engines etc? Good luck with the hunt for the correct settings though!
  10. I got fed up trying to sell my hot rod last year. Up for £6k and a dozen people contact me with their best offer, cash waiting, collect tomorrow - £2,500! I get some duff sales leads at GreenMech too, they want a demo, want finance with minimal deposit but have only been trading 6 months, and have a CCJ for not paying for a mobile phone! I know we all start somewhere but be real.....
  11. There is a tech section for Timberwolf which they monitor and respond to. Sounds to me like you oil pump or a motor could be cavitating - frothing up the oil as one or other is not working properly. Is the oil milky or clear? If it is milky, capture a sample and leave it in a jar overnight and if it clears, it is milky with air bubbles. If the separation shows a tiny bit of water, then water has got into the system somehow.
  12. I got to lash back agin Jonny Walker, it is my job after all. GreenMech tractor powered stuff is good, even better when used on a decent tractor and by folk who know what to do! I had an 8" GreenMech on a Unimog back in the day and it was/is a blinding piece of kit! With ours, the "No Stress" kicks in when the tractor reaches the correct rpm, no matter what gear you are in. If you have a load of HP available, stick the tractor in 1000 speed and rev to a high tickover and it will work. If you overspeed it, an experienced chipper operator will hear that it is too fast !

Listened to Starmer and Dodds taking chunks out of the government over the last few days, while i didn't expect them to back slap anyones efforts during the pandemic, their diatribe, prescripted before the budget and since, just indicate to me what awful politicians they are and how out-of touch they are with running a country! I was having some leanings towards some of the social care aspects of the agenda but after the last few days, they will never get my vote at any level! While I think a pay increase for key front line staff and nursing car staff would be good on top of the 12% they already had, another couple of % would be in order but 12% again!?! The country has just lashed out billions trying to stop the spread and the piggy bank is bare, we got to spread what's left thinly and fairly evenly for a bit!

  15. Unfortunately, I had to go to Citizens Advice about a 12yo Audi that I brought and it failed drastically. The idiots that I got it from gobbed of about their 30 day warranty only covered engine/box and not electrical issues and so on. They gave me some very creative excuses and delaying tactics. CAB, or their volunteer solicitor guided me through the protocol and my bank refunded my money and did a snatch-back from theirs. The CAB and I spoke at length about "sold as seen", warranty implied or given, expectations etc and it opened my eyes into the subject. They also told me that once the CAB are involved, so are Trading Standards, and they store all complaints and never forget, they even keep a "family tree" of people and businesses which transgress. "Not fit for purpose" is harder to prove and act upon, but the rights of the buyer are top.... This is not the first time that I've heard of this supplier crossing the ethical line.....
  16. Spoke to someone who got a used chipper from a big supplier. They got him to sign the invoice saying the above and it needed a new infeed motor within three weeks. As far as I can recall, if it is sold as a working machine and going to work, the above statement is an infringement of the chaps rights as a customer and trading standards will take the customers side in the debate. Even if there is a standard 30 day warranty, the customers rights extend beyond those 30 days if the fault is fairly extensive and unexpected. Trading Standards are not bothered how much money they made or lost or the cost of the repair, the seller is duty bound by law to satisfy the buyer within sensible parameters. You cannot claim for loss of earnings, out of pocket expenses and they have to be giving a reasonable timetable put right the faults. Buying something from a private seller is slightly different but a dealer should know better than try and cheat a buyer with that "sold as seen" scam.

  18. I must confess that my folks retired to South Devon close to 20 years back and got a sweet spot in proper rural land close to Chard. The house was listed, thanks to an internal wall and a historical link to an author but nowt earth shaking in any way. Front windows were wood and rotten, back were those horrible steel frames that do not seal. Dad approached the LA about changing the lot, listed status meant fancy bespoke frames with naff secondary glazing. Building regs folk stipulated certain bespoke frames (expensive, but suited) and double glazing. Neither department could agree and months later, he got fed up and got it delisted! They only got three tv channels via the roof mounted aerial but getting Sky dish was agin the rules, so agai, he ignored the listed status and got a dish, like his neighbours, so he could watch TV! But scheduled monument and so on is different!
  19. To set the context, and Mick, please excuse my awful grammar, The Bluecoat School was a boarding school and it should've been boarded up! Ex NT property, listed and scheduled, back in private ownership. Right nice spot but some well overgrown Rhododendrons and other shrubs and a really damp, moss covered lawn area close to the Mott. He wants to rid himself of these overgrown areas, put new drains in the lawn, kill the moss and rotovate for new seed.
  20. As the title says, on the site of a scheduled monument, what are you allowed to do in terms of gardening, landscaping, bushbashing, tree work, blah blah blah? Just curious as I seen some large Rhododendron bashing going on, and some other stuff was mentioned.....
  21. They can be removed and I've never heard of an inhibitor fitted. If I'm out in my GreenMech Ranger and towing light liads or I'm on my time, I press the buttons to change it to "out of scope" of tacograph operations and it doesn't record anything. But best get the proper advice for your circumstances anyhow! Modern units also can record driving style which can then be analysed to see if you been driving like a dick too!

  25. They were standard BLMC Mini shafts which I here had to be replaced fairly often as they were a tad under specified even on a Mini! Check suppliers of early Mini spares... I reckon they were two mini front subframes with Triumph herald different?
