  1. i'm on my second pair of stretch airs in 4 years, the first lasted a year and 3/4s, this pair are still going strong. the fabiric is really hard wearing. my first pair went at teh crotch after extended belt wearing, this pair have been fine and i've worn braces with them all the time. they have a few small rips and the leg pocket came un stitched but they still look pretty presentable 2 years on. my only problem, its hard to justify a new pair Jamie
  2. my girlfriend likes baked tatties (potatoes) with cheese, spagetti hoops and quavers. Jamie
  3. I like trees but, i like a paycheque more Jamie
  4. Thats a 3 strand lowering rope, you can't be a 'proper arborist' you should be using a super expensive rope to be any good:001_tongue: Jamie
  5. Very selective editing. I've never felt teh need to own a gun to defend myself. look what is currently happening in Finland, they are talking about more restrictions of gun ownership. I don't know all teh ins and outs, all the facts, the pros and cons of owning a gun. I've never felt the need to own one, I've got mates that do. I don't believe that gun ownership makes for a safer society. Jamie
  6. I'll let out one long Groooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon Jamie
  7. I prefer Arbor master to XTC. XTC milks a lot where as arbor master doesn't I find XTC perhaps a bit more flexi and easier to tie knots with. Jamie
  8. At Holyrood house there were a line of trees that prince Phil wanted planted as a screen. Well, they were interfering with the wall and fence so Liz and Phil wanted them pruned back. Jamie
  9. You should whiplock or lock stitch it. I had a discussion with a splicer who does NATO / MOD work he reckons its a waste of time as the brummell holds it and is the active part in the security of teh splice. I always do, better to have and not need Jamie
  10. While doing my RFS cert arb back in the day i asked if a limb with a bracket growing on it were to fall from a vertical to a horizontal position would the bracket shift its orientation. the lecturer never knew. a few months later i subsequently found a Ganoderma bracket that had altered its growth. the part on the stem was orientated 90 degrees to teh newer growth, which was pointing upwards. Geotrophism in action, Is it phototrophism from the tope side to aim to keep the gills drier from teh rain or moist hidden from the sun? Jamie
  11. When i started at the Gym the guy there recommended shakes 3 times a day. I looked at the price and thought 'screw that'. I did a bit of reading into it anf found this page at the English Institute for Sport much cheaper. I can't say i notice much difference however, i'm sure its more my ad hoc gym sessions Jamie
  12. haix, Two years is a good life. I tried some tremme and i wouldn't use them again. they were just not as good as the haix in my opinion Jamie
  13. Whats the ascender called. Your question is a bit like asking how the red car by Ford drives. Jamie
  14. i made one the other day, dropped it off at my sisters, my flatemate / landlord wants a garden of highland cows. maybe more mushrooms just now jamie
  15. the top mush rooms look a bit rough but nice, the rest look super smooth, better than my attempts Jamie
  16. i prefer to do my lock stitching closer to the eye. What are you using to sew it? i'm on No. 4 whipping twine (aboiut the best stuff marlow do), a palm some sailmaking needles and a pair of pliers. with a bit of effort and massaging i can get every eye at teh throat Jamie
  17. That sucks man. Every cloud and all that jazz. I'm sure that something good will turn up, not that that helps pay the bills right now. Jamie
  18. why latin??? what is it? a Mountain Ash, a Rowan anyother local terms?? (i don't need the answer) A sycamore is stilla sycamore up here, over in teh states it's different however Jamie
  19. my best solution to that Tim is to start and run your own forum, that way you can decide who can and can't post. I'm sure many of us will come and join, i know i'm a member at 4 arb forums and a few other (cycling, photography and various board sports to name a few). Mesterh maybe was in the wrong to poke a slight jab at you but you took that to the next level. Jamie
  20. we have a(nother) saying at work. 'if it's boring you're doing it right'. This job has the potential to be dangerous i for one do get scared on certain jobs, its what you do with that fear that counts, do you become rational or start cutting (pun intended) more corners. Jamie
  21. Tim i do think you sometime seem a bit overbearing on teh safety front, safety is a big part of tree work i know but sometimes, being human we slip. I did the exact same thing but got my hand, 2 tendons cut, all repaired now i have a scar the full length of my hand. I always use the phrase 'Pain is temporary, glory is forever and chicks dig scars' many a chick digs scars, just not mine. Most folks enjoy the gore story, makes a good talking point, but: everyday i see a scar and think about what i did, it hurts in the cold, i used to get a shooting pain that stopped me dead made me release my grip, where they stitched my tendons together i now have 3 lumps as the stitches stay in, my skin doesn't mover properly and in winter it goes purple... I think there should be a stickied thread / forum of injuries how we got them, what we have learned etc. not a discussion thread. if nothing else it'd open newbies eyes Jamie
  22. Bob, ' as my uncle always used to tell me 'you cannae beat a canon' nice pics Jamie
  23. how long were you wanting to make it to turn itinto a short sling. I think samson recomend 5 fid lengths from eye to eye with double braids . mine have all been slightly shorter however, no major problems apart from with teh marlow stuff, but i was able to splice it one handed:scared1: Jamie
  24. Jamie

    Axe Men

or someone who is so far gone in forestry that if he gave it up he couldn't go elsewhere????? Jamie
  25. peter, what construction is the silver streak? i've made quite a few saw srops out of double braid, a carabiner sized eye one end and a tight one the other end. not been splicng much recently... but i have a back log of split tails i need. Jamie
