  10. I may have made an accidental oversight and continued to use the last of my Amcide (Ammonium Sulphamate) stock to treat stumps. Now its all gone and I've found out it has been banned by our european friends. So what do we use now? Can anyone please enlighten me.

Specifically the species I need are: Common Lime - Ash - Hawthorn - Holly - Birch -Sycamore - Lombardy Poplar -Cherry - W Red Cedar - Lawsons Cypress - Magnolia - Atlas cedar - Yew - Leylands Cypress - Hornbeam - Whitebeam - Tree of Heaven - Beech - oak -Bay - Apple - Damson - Pear Alex
  12. I love the show, it's totally hyped and hammed up and this just adds comedy value in my opinion. It would be hillarious if everywhere we went just doing our job as we do on a daily basis we had that ridiculous running commentary and tension building music in the background. Plus you do get to see a bit of tree work on mainstream tv which can't be a bad thing.
  13. Can anyone recommend a good cleaning product or tip for removing pine resin from ropes and clothes?
  14. Can anyone help me? As you all know tree surveys come in all shapes and sizes but I've been asked to produce a survey/report for an individual tree and it would be really helpful if I could see an example of one. I've surveyed the tree already and recorded the necessary details but it's how to present these findings in a proffesional looking document that I need some help with. I guess I will figure it out for myself but after a hard days climbing etc etc a helping hand might just buy me some chill time...
  15. Just spotted this job going if anyone is interested. Qualifications required: National Diploma in Arb or Tech Cert. Shropshire jobs :Arboricultural Officer - Shropshire - £15 p/hr LTD, Telford: Other: 122180270
  16. I would like to see a weather forecast for the 12 month period in question! However, if I had to guess....maybe 5?!
  17. This thread has cracked me up! What know pikey jokes, thats frustrating Only kidding, we've all gotta make a living !! How about, as a first attempt... "Get Rich and Die Laughing at arbtalk.co.uk"
  18. Thats so funny I love the way he stands before he jumps!
  19. Sounds good. Anything to get me out the house and from under the missus feet! I'm at Bridgnorth, Home of Barble, steamtrains and horsey girls. PS just call me Al aka Alex Howden
  20. I dismantled a sycamore last week that had just a 'small' amount of Ustulina (Kretzshmaria) deusta at the base. I had to do some basic rigging but tried to free fall as much as poss. On felling the butt, the evident decay and brittle character of the timber was quite extreme and just 5-10% of outer wood and cambium was unaffected. The top, typically, showed no symptons of ill health at all. I figured that recent high winds would have exerted more stress than I would by going gentle on it.
  21. I get through more mobile phones than saw chains! I've driven over them, dropped the last one down the loo!, sometimes they just steam up in bad weather. Those rubber Nokias of old lasted well but I don't think there's anything quite like them on the market now.
  22. I'm a boss. If my employees work hard or show extraordinary initiative or effort I thank them and let them know I haven't overlooked their hardwork or development. Not in a 'kiss-butt, goodnight John-boy' sort of way, but subtle and to the point. Credit where its due. That said, I don't feel comfortable with thankyous in return. They earn their corn and I earn mine.
