  1. Thanks for the wise words guys. This forum has really helped me. Who would have thought that business decisions could be conferred amongst proffessional arborists from across the UK and result in sensible and considered action (the right and lawful ) being taken by the otherwise overwhelmed (economically focused) individual contractor. Sorry to come across a bit 'Pikey' last night ! I'm not motivated to do the things I do and take the risks etc just for money. Otherwise I wouldn't do it at all.
  2. Is not possible to be a pro but also a bit buccaneer? Problem is everyone will know who did it, what a good job it was and then the wrong person will get all the info. Excuse my immoral pov but theyre only sycamores and they are smack on the boundary give or take a slip.
  3. Is there gona be a prize for this photo comp?
  4. Just quoted to top a boundary of sycamores behind a pub to open up sunset. Landlord says got permission and flashes LA letter. Price accepted, tidy profit, nice little zipline number.Start Friday. Just read letter in detail, 2 pinmts later, home with a key bab. S**t! Letter says prune branches to boundary. This is a CArea. Noone admits ownership of adjacent land or trees not even Town Council. What would you do? Quik response please!
  5. Ok I give in, get your spectacles round this. Bit of a sunset adds a nice colour.
  6. I'm afraid I could bombard you with nice pics Steve. I'm gonna have to issue these on a drip release prescription and keep you all hungry for more!
  7. I like that notch tip Pete. Will be using that one!
  8. Just trying out the pics resize etc. If this works you can see the same tree as in the vid.
  9. It all went for firewood. I just got her down and the local (tenant to NT)farmer shnaffled it away on his loader. The lord of the Hall complained he only got about 5-10 t of the roughest sh*te, (big crotch included) and questioned the whole op with NT HQ. They then requested to see all the paperwork inc my insurance, method statement, r assment, nptc's etc which on this occasion was watertight as the NT forester I deal with had asked for it anyway.
  10. Sweet but heavy work with the 088. It would have been a lot harder to rig down than it was with the crane. I would like more of these to do but they only come now and again. Birches tomorrow !
  11. Tomograph and then auger tests showed internal decay at the base of the tree. It was situated in a very public place and was leaning over a church. The crotch at 35' was also a great concern. at some point in recent history some brainiac had actually gone up and chucked in a shovel or two of concrete! I guess each co-dominant weighed in at 20 t plus drag etc. There was also a single cable and brace fixed between the two trunks. The crane just popped the cable in two and the bolts stayed home. It was a National Trust property. They have to be seen to make trees safe especially with recent events.
  12. This tree clocked up over 50 tonnes of lumps removed in 2-5 ton sections after having removed the main canopy with conventional rigging and lowering systems. I did'nt measure it with a tape but wish I had. It was about 6' dbh and forked at about 35', each co-dominant at this height was a good 3' diameter. I guessed 110'+ to the top. The crane lifted up one end of the trunk you see felled and registered 12 ton thereby we guessed about 18 ton in all. The crane opo allowed me to ride the hook on the afternoon of the first day as I informed him of American ANSI Standards and swore secrecy. This made things go real quick and was wicked fun. We could of had a real nice soundtracked film made like those yanks on youtube but hey, its all in a days work.
  13. Apologies I'm a bit crap at computers. I put a couple of little vids on youtube but I need a grown up to help me set this up. They are titled crane magic and 18 ton tree trunk hits deck. Not mega but worth a peek.
