  1. Treefitter will look after you Owain if your a good honest worker, in the meantime if you need someone to help out every now and then i'm availible if given notice 07772751139
  2. Even putting a mouth in you can get your saw stuck in the kerf. I thought Toms cuts were good i wouldn't of bothered putting a mouth in on those heavy bits if i could get away with it less cutting that way, and the fewer cuts you can make with a big saw the better imo. The only criticism i could see is poor or lazy grip on the saw what ever way you want to look at it. Other than that nice job.
  3. Its a second limb tied off with slings to the main one, you can't see the other sling as its hidden.
  4. Thanks Ed that mean a lot to me coming from you:thumbup1: I'm still skinny though just with a little more experience.
  5. We retrenchment pruned it last year including some coronet cuts, one side was already dead then this year the other side came into leaf and rapidly died, I'm unsure as to the reason why there are 2 oaks the either side that are fine no external signs of any pathogens? We wanted to leave it as a monolith by just making it smaller and include more coronet cuts, only the site decided they wanted to sculpt the trunk so yes the stem is staying and will be carved into something nice.
  6. Me taking down a dead Oak, nothing tricky just removed some of the lower stuff and sticky out bits then knocked off the limbs in big bits, the stem to be left for carving into something nice.
  7. A crane job from Thursday, qtip doing the dismantle whilst i was left to take down the biggest Holly i've ever seen:001_huh: A great day for treework nice and cool with blue sky, not a big tree only access was tight having a crane made this job a doodle 9:30 start done by 11:30.
  8. In my book your uber cool but my mrs just said i'm sad too, still what do they know.
  9. There was already an old steel cable brace in it which we inspected during the work to decide wether its still fit for purpose. Reccomendations will be made.
  10. That hinge is top notch just a bit of work on his climbing and positioning particularly cringed on the 3rd pic in the first post one handed with his body in the way of any potential kickback or slip:thumbdown: give the guy a cambium saver to maybe with less friction he'll move about easier. Still a good job though:001_smile:
  11. Only just seen your reply John i guess they must be but its not me in the pic i put it up because it shows good posture. I love good safe work practice we as a team pride ourselves in being very safe, effcient and work to a high standard.
  12. I know it as a Helical hitch google throws up a few hits, here is one the way the last picture shows it hasn't been dressed yet into wraps/braids. Come Caving with the VPI Cave Club!
  13. Yes Alex that is nicely put wish i could of explained it as well as you.
  14. its funny how peoples opinions can vary, i used to love the sordin muffs on my vertex, only i bought the stien with peltor optime 2's wow what a difference, yes the foam padding isn't as nicely contoured as the sordins but they are comfy and block the noise much better than standard peltor 1's. The clear visor does have its strengths all in all though its a pain to keep clean and a mesh visor is better. having worn the helmet for a couple of months i think its just o.k certainly no better than a vertex, in some areas its not as good the foam padding is going to get rancid quicker and deterioate faster and the chin strap is none removable unlike the vertex so i can't chuck it in the wash. It is comfier but the vertex was hardly uncomfortable, the good thing about the vertex is it allowed better air circulation so was slightly cooler. Not a bad helmet just not head and shoulders above the competition merely another option which is no bad thing. For the record i'll be buying another vertex next year unless something else comes out.
  15. Teupen 23m they also do a 30 or 33m? version.
  16. mewps don't really do it for me, they are a usefull tool and that is a very good one.

    klima air

I could be wrong it is known from time to time:laugh1: I thought they didn't have a membrame just very high qaulity thick waterproof leather and some sort of speccial stitching technique to the sole to keep water out. Thing is with this type of high qaulity i guess hand made or partially hand made boot there will be inconsistencies some will be extremely waterproof others the stiching may not be so tight and let water in. A good qaulity Event or gor-tex lining is just more reliable but still not 100%

    klima air

The klima air tirol fighters are not water proof sure they have thick waterproof leather but no waterproof membrane. The airstreams are good so arre the new klima air boots both have waterproof lining. Personally i'd go for the slightly lighter (and cheaper) Meindl wauldlaffers good boots made by a proper boot manafacturer.
  19. Some pics from today a Corsican pine to rebalance and remove some weight/sail from stem heading toward house this stem is south facing and became over developed and the union is not great. The client wanted it felled only the boss talked him round to keeping it, great job and we had a magic carpet in to make the job even easier. Qtip did the pine i was in the back garden felling a multi-stemmed Sycamore having fun playing around squezing the stems through a small gap alas no pictures of that.
  20. a few pics of the some of the work we've been doing the last few weeks... well there would be but the files are to large, here is some of a medium sized Horse chesnut we felled, also a pic of a Cedar we dead wooded and cleaned out split limbs, done lots of work on this site has plenty of amazing Cedars
  21. Of all people i never thought you'd own up to carrying out the dangerous dark arts of dodgy tricks.
  22. You could always cut to the side rather than straight down, you also have to be carefull that whilst holding the branch your arm does not get pulled onto the moving chain seen this happen! Alternativly just use a Silky if its small and light enough to be hand held more than likly a silky will cut it. I always have my silky with me even on dismantles.
  23. Ha:001_rolleyes: in all seriousness though that is bloody dangerous what if the hinge breaks and the butt comes towards you, i'll tell ya its a whole world of hurt.
  24. Be carefull when using outboard cuts:biggrin: Put your sapwood cuts above the hinge when in the tree, this will prevent tearing just as effectivly than placing them below, still give the same control/result but without the risk of possibly getting your saw stuck in the small kerfs of the sapwood cuts.
  25. All i can say is i've driven past vosa a few times on the motorway in a Mog chip truck and Crane type, they've never even botherd to pull me over unlike many other hgv vehicles being pulled. Recently one company i work for had their Bedford crane truck (like Andys only i'm guessing newer as it has square not round lights and boxier cab) pulled by vosa on a dual carrigeway they dipped the tank even though they were informed its running on red, there was some confusion by the vosa guys on the road eventually they let them go but warned they were going to check out the legality of running it as a special vehicle and get back to them. They had a load of cord and chip on the back. They never heard back! maybe it was luck?
