  1. Funny, out in the sticks where I grew up Pigeon were and are regarded as vermin and they were and are shot on sight. A close relative of mine lives on the coast and they have a major problem with sea gulls, mainly because naive tourists feed them so they call in a licensed marksman to deal with them, this marksman guy has received death threats for his actions.
  2. Odd, I went on a course with Puk and I recall him saying he has never heard of a splice failing.
  3. Tunes Ian, tunes.
  4. Rigging? If so you could be helped, ppe? Sorry No.
  5. Thanks Dave, I have a RC2000 and am happy with it so far, thanks again for your report.

  7. Nice work John, is that that Arbormaster?
  8. *The only way the final bury can be done is if the weave is made looser during the braiding process. They actually have to stop the braiding machines, reset the strand tension to a lower level, braid about a foot of line loosely, and then stop everything again and reset the tension back to normal.* This information I have just read, so the braiding is done on a machine so you could say that the splice is machine assisted as I am sure the whole rope is not braided by hand?
  9. Highscale, to clarify, the ropes weave pattern would elongate for just about 2 feet. The rope was then spliced by hand. Not machine assistaed like our 16 strand splices. I hope this helps clarify things. In short, yeah, I can splice a rope that is deemed nonsplicable as well. But is it safe? In your case, I would say, no it is not safe. Its been tested and has failed repeatedly with low breaks right at the base of the eye. In fact, if you woudl like to send us your splices, we would be happy to test them and send to you the report. Once again, its not our objective to confuse people, it is to supply a safe and reliable product that is fit for purpose to its intended use. If you should require an eye splice in a climbing line, may I suggest a 16 strand rope 1/2" If this is in a rigging rope, exactly how are you using the eye splice and what benefit does it add to your system? Thanks all, I hope this helps. Jamie, thanks for your reply and also thanks to Nigel for bringing this interesting subject to your attention, however the splice in question was not created by me, but another member on this forum, if you had actually read the thread you would at least know that, tsk, tsk. I do however splice a little, double braid and sixteen strand so if the test offer still stands?
  10. I actually see that kind of thing a lot less than I used to in the past, those considerate builder schemes seem to work, although not in the above case.
  11. Honey bees are having a bad time of it.
  12. Phone a friend?
  13. Funny how it's listed as being non spliceable when in fact it is, it's machine assisted. Robot splice.
  14. Yeah I had a XTC 12 climbing line with a factory splice, confusing.
  15. I keep a copy of this firms catalog Arborist Climbing Ropes at WesSpur which normally has the splicing information of the rope you are interested in splicing.
  16. I must start watching the news/reading the papers more often.
  17. I was suffocated once by a work bully when I was seventeen, it was scary until I passed out then it just seemed like a dream, I didn't see any bright lights ahead either.
  18. If your marine guy splices your ropes and you get them inspected by a LOLER examiner chances are he or she will pass the splices if they are correctly spliced and that particular examiner knows about splicing, or, is even ignorant of splicing but will pass it because they don't know any better, but...there are some who feel that this type of splicing alters the original construction of the rope, the original construction would have been tested and given it's CE mark but that original construction would not have had a splice on the end. I'm confusing myself.
  19. Good luck mate, things are very slow around here.
  20. No, just remembering, (wrongly) about him.
  21. LOL, nice one.
  22. Cheers man, I always thought a lot of him going back to the farm.
  23. Yeah man I know, I love you always, I always get like this when I lay off the Ale.
  24. Chomp, chomp, pass the HP, chomp, this pig is delicious, chomp. poor little squirrel.
