  1. I think that the way you have come across to date has helped the AA no end. I can only applaud your openness and honesty dealing with the questions posed, and hope that working with this forum can improve the AA, (and for that matter ISA, FCA, CAS and so on) Many of us here attend the trade shows, so dont be a stranger, feel free to join us for a beer, we dont bite.......often:biggrin:
  2. I have the Zagg on my ipod too, seems indestructible!
  3. I was basically lifting things from a HMRC pamphlet, the PLI helps to show the taxman that you are accepting risk reponsibility, along with many other factors. Being able to show that you also accept the financial risk is, as you say, also important. Its a combination of several factors that make a person genuinely s/emp.
  4. I mean, its not rocket science really, push the nozzle of the jam insertion gadget into the donut, press the green button until full and bobs your uncle, a jam donut. But oh no, some comedian always has to put just a blob of jam on the wrong side to mess up your day. I concur on the custardy ones, the girl on the custardy pumpy thing deserves top praise. I wonder if there is a Friday afternoon donut?
  5. Jam donuts eh? It really gets me mad when the jam always squirts down your chin however you hold them:001_rolleyes:
  6. Ok the boring bit: 35% Oak 35% Ash 10% Field maple the rest made up of spindle, guelder rose and blackthorn
  7. Oh I dunno, this thread is the 1st one to put a smile on my face today:001_rolleyes: Anyhoo moving on.......
  8. Oh yeah, hiking all the gear in on this site was a pita, next plot (950 trees) we can drive right up to, so wont be too bad.
  9. Wouldnt say so, but than I'm still quite active for an old un:biggrin:
  10. Todays work, putting something back for the future! 650 whips planted, staked and guarded, only another 4000 to go:001_smile: Well the pics looked clearer on the phones screen than on here, sorry!
  11. Cool, glad to see you've settled n a job, bit further south than when I last heard from you!
  12. Spot on, and unfortunately not a lot you can do abut your age. BUT you will learn to deal with such people through experience, and they'll soon realise you're one tough cookie.
  13. Oh no, I feel a tail of disasters coming up:biggrin:
  14. What a nice little story, restored my faith in human nature it has:thumbup:
  15. I used to use an old Japa with a circular saw, that noise would drive me mad (or did!!) When Steve got his processor I was impressed with how much quieter the Chain saw was. The ease of sharpening a chain has to be something to be thought about too. But its horses for courses, if you're used to sharpening a circular, then its probably no hassle.
  16. Nice to see you still about A:thumbup:
  17. Well, at least my poll is Arb Approved:lol:
  18. Paul, I have started a poll in the General Chat, so hopefully you should be able to see how even the less regular posters feel. I think i may have missed an option or two out, but we're simple folk so thought it best to keep options to a minimum. Hope its of use to you:001_smile:
  19. why not get some large sheets of plyboard to protect the roof, then rig the limb off? Sheets of ply are available in 8x4foot from all builders outlets, and will prevent a lot of damage. Even working from a mewp, it only takes a small piece to punch a whole through asbestos.
  20. I dont want this to turn into a "lets run down the AA" free-for-all, but more a little form of research. If you are AAAC, why not point out the benefits being AAAC has had for your business. Any derogatory comments on this thread re: the AA or its leadership will be removed!
  21. Just had a look at the AAAC list, 15 for the whole of East Anglia!! Now in my YP this year I think there is something like 90 companies advertising in a much smaller area. This is either because, a) they dont want to be AAAC b)they cant afford to be AAAC c) they arent good enough to be AAAC d) they dont even know about AAACand e) they feel alienated from the AAAC system Now I've seen some bad work about, and some fine work about, and the law of averages tell me that the non-AAACs must be getting the lions share of the work, and doing it to an equally high standard. So my point here is Are the AA missing out on something? Would more of these contractors come onboard if there was a tiered system as I suggested? Is this something the AA is looking at, if at all, or do they wait for the contractors to find them?
  22. No Tony, why should all not be able to be Appproved, rather than just registered?
  23. I'm not even a member, and I take it Dave isnt either, yet we sit here and came up with a simple plan in 5mins. The trouble with many organisations is that they are tied up in petty beurocracy which slows the wheels to a grinding halt. What I do know, gleaned from the hallowed pages of Arbtalk, is that many are disillusioned with the AA, and have been for some time. This would say to me that they need a radical shake-up, and change for the 21st century, clean off the rose-tinted specs and listen to the public. Without change, the AA would become just another dinosaur, top-heavy and feeble little limbs! I know Paul has had a trial by fire here, from various corners, and that was to be expected tbh, but I for one welcome his refreshing approach to the issues, and hope he can help instill the changes that will make us all wish to be a part of the AA.
  24. I merely believe that if you had more AAAC's at whatever level it would generate more income, which in turn could then benefit the Aa and its members. Surely a grading system for AAAC would not confuse the public, but would be instantly recognisable amongst its ranks, all would be AAAC, but say Grade 1 (entry level) to Grade 5 (highest level) dependent on affordability. if my turnover is say 35k, yet I attain the same standard as a 300k business, why should I not become AAAC, yet the price should be pro rata based on turnover, and graded as such. Perhaps more could then justify the step towards AAAC, both financially and taking time to get systems in place? Sorry f I'm rambling, but I keep popping in and thinking of new bits to say:001_smile:
  25. You havent had your pills this morning have you??
