  1. Lads had been sent on another job today, so looks like the beers on hold:thumbdown:
  2. Selecting any climber/groundie is just like choosing the right tool for the job, Every person has certain attributes that make them better for certain jobs than others, and every person has faults too. But what really matters is that each person can gel into a good team to get a good job done, and this is what I look for when hiring a climber. He must be a competent climber (can do most tasks req'd) and he must be a team player.
  3. I know some guys from Cornard area, should see them tomoz hopefully, I know they deal with the farmers in that area, if they come up with anything I'll pass the details onto you.
  4. Hell, dont think even I would be able remember when he was a young climber:lol:
  5. I remember a young climber years ago wondering about self-employment and whether he was good enough to make it as a free-lancer, and I told him he was as good as the better ones i'd ever seen, and if he was to go for it, he'd make the grade. Cant remember his name now, but he is a very competent climber in all aspects and some say he went on to start up some arb-related forum or something like that. Sure his name will come back to me later. Think he did ok in a comp or 2 as well.
  6. Oh cheers for that, just when I was climbing out of my pit of despair, knock me right back down again why dont ya:lol:
  7. The bigger one has a bit more oomph to it I think:biggrin:
  8. Finally I don't expect to sell a single one of these, but if I do I want you as a buyer to know that I as a seller couldn't give a monkey's what you think about the item. I'm happy with it which is why I decide to sell it. If you don't like it - tough. You're an adult, so you should be able to take responsibility for your decisions. If you can't and you're the type of modern day **** who blames everything on someone else and thinks daytime tv chat shows are educational, then don't buy from me.
  9. Been shopping around today, looking for something to drag a rake behind etc, waddya think, should get a couple of gardens worth of power between charges. with a hitch on the back should be able to manouvre the Jo-Beau about fairly easy:thumbup1:
  10. Suddenly a can of Chum and a bowl of Winalot seems really appealing!!
  11. I'm not eating dog biscuits and Chum that for sure:biggrin:
  12. Grief, this makes me at least -10 on the scale:001_rolleyes:
  13. I'll get some glucosamine for now, must help a bit, I dont like taking pain killers for long so that may be a good option.
  14. As some wil know, I strained the cruciate ligament some time ago. Now I'm feeling my age, my knees constantly ache, whether working sitting or even lying down. This is a hard physical job, and its hard on the body. I cant see myself quitting now, but if this constant dull ache doesnt go away, its something I may have to consider. But what to do, I am finally doing the jobs I want to do, taking a lifetime to get there, but the pain takes the fun right out of it nowadays.
  15. 2k is a good deposit on a new chipper, and finance the rest? Or why not lease one? At least it would be a good reliable machine, and down time when you start out might cost you more than you can afford.
  16. Is it a Teles?
  17. Saw a documentary on that a while back, hideous affliction
  18. I am a groundie, I dont swing nimbly through the canopies as many of you do, I look up to you guys every day. The art of pruning a tree is imo a skill, the art of moving competantly and gracefully through a tree is a skill. To put it bluntly, I have the deepest respect for the climber/arborist and always will have. They have skill, those who are at the top of their game. I would class myself as semi-skilled, I point at things with sticks, I drag stuff, tell people where to dig holes, tell em where to plant things, actually I have no skill whatsoever. But i get paid for doing this unskilled stuff, and earn more now than I would ever imagine when I left school at 16 with no real education.
  19. Btw, anyone wanting top quality trees 14-16cm girth and above, I can highly recommend Deepdale Trees Ltd, excellent service and no quibble if your unhappy with anything they send, top company, and well worth adding to you suppliers lists.
  20. Climber is Tim Green, (Blue), always does a fair job, and didnt mind (too much) mucking i with planting the rhodies etc. Oh and we all know you're a bit sad:biggrin:
  21. So the pics to go with the above:blushing:
  22. A few pics from the last few days, planting cedars, oaks, rhodies yews and hollies, and underplanting with irises. Also a slight reduction on a mature Walnut around one side to reduce the leverage, and reduce the shading over a newly installed water feature. OK, pics to follow d'oh!
  23. Subject to the client approving the Cedar (I didnt want to faff about with it if the client wanted it returned to supplier), I then lifted and rotated it 90degs to show the "best side" from the house, over-looking the park. The other pic is showing the other cedar planted yesterday, along with a large Magnolia planted this morning. Als0 planted 2x 15' Q. roburs out in the park, just have to put on the steel guards around those.
  24. I think given a couple of years it will be fine, but when the client wants trees for instant impact, then its disappointing if they arent perfect. The main trunk has a definite bow in it, but this couldnt be seen until the mesh wrap was removed. The 2nd was as good as they get, and was what I would expect of both. Luckily the 2nd is beside the drive, and therefore in a more visible position.
