  1. Using both ends of the line has it's negatives too. Firstly the length of line required to hit the ground in an emergency would be long (over 4 times the height of the tree:ohmy:). It's not that you can't unclip one end of the line, but it would take time to reroute it. Secondly the "loop" it forms in the middle of the line has to be guarded, as if a branch or limb were to catch it, it will hurt. Personally I prefer a 2nd rope if the tree's form dictates it's use, non of the above disadvantages. However it is well worth learning.
  2. I'm just dissapointed they don't do one in pink.
  3. Is that a snide comment because you don't have the full set
  4. Some pics from monday. Working on a development site, alongside Matt (Buzz) in the 360, who was running the extraction for Ed's company. Waste will be chipped for biomass
  5. Had Peter helping me out today killing some trees. Not many pics as he kept me too buisy. Great day for treework:001_cool:
  6. Working with Peter today, so we decided to do a quick compare and contrast between the 4 different cubes we had. Left to right ; new falimier, old model, sherrill and stein. My opinions are that the stein and the sherrill are identical apart from the fabric of the stein appears to be more substantial. Tho older faltimier is better consructed than the newer. The fabric on the base of the newer is stretchy and will not be as durable. Overall the Stein is the best value of the above if it proves durable. The older origonal cube however appears to be better constructed but at a price.
  7. Are pictures available? It's hard to help in such a case over the internet. But if you have any issues about the rope or any other kit, then retire it until you can get someone to inspect it for you, or in this case get the knife out
  8. I'd personally apply common sense. I the replacement placed pressure upon the cam when unloaded, preventing freefall in emergency why not?
  9. More than your ribs seem to be a little sensitive this evening Mr Collins. p.s. can you please go on a diet if you aim to honour your threat of sitting on me whilst drinking all my beer:sad:
  10. He just looks and acts both of the above:001_tongue:
  11. Nice work Roger. Big crappy tree for sure
  12. That's my neck of the woods. pm me if you do not get any joy elsewhere
  13. Not on my shift! The wire is there for a valid reason. Why would you want pressure to the cam when not loaded?
  14. Will the harness be suitable for the configuration you are indicating? Will they effect the working life or wear patterns of the bridge? or are you guessing.........
  15. Spelling is M c S h e f f r e y
  16. Special as in licking windows and voting liberal I bet:001_tongue:
  17. Luck or stupid, I think most thoughout our time in this industry have been both without realising. Like most I was bullet proof until i gaffed out and stuck a saw in my arm. Risk is measured by repercusions and likelyhood. I assess risks, minimising them to what I deam aceptable, but not fear them.
  18. Sounds painfull Dean, although I thought you would be used to handling little pricks by now
  19. not enough:001_cool:
  20. Buy a 6in chipper to wear it will be lighter:001_tongue:
  21. Or anther option is............ http://lmgtfy.com/?q=what+is+a+trango+cinch or http://lmgtfy.com/?q=what+is+a+ART+positioner hehehehehe
  22. Art positioner; http://www.treeworker.co.uk/acatalog/Advanced_Ropeclimbing_Technology_6.html Cinch;http://www.honeybros.com/index.php?sid=y296o33o22h26supmy4pa9r1w2mk3711&app=gbu0&ns=prodsearchp&gbu0--prodsearch--string=cinch&SUBMIT=Online+Store+Search
  23. I use a shunt above my ascender; no chest harness. For shorter ascents I don't see the point of them
  24. I'd not be a fan of a VT in that configuration. I would recomend something such as a croll or even with a closed cam such as a shunt. 100% reliable is a prerequisite for me
  25. Art positioners work well on wirecores apparently, not tried myself. I use the cinch on the leftside, no issues as yet
