  1. Actually turned out to be a taxus thuja, quite a rare Yew really. I let the new climber take the top out and I spent the morning on the ground doing the sides with my wolf extendable pole loppers. It didn't come out too bad.
  2. For my first go on SRT this afternoon I had this turd to polish. Previously heavily reduced Birch with lots of decay in the old wounds. I was quite pleased how it came out all things considered, although I suspect the next visit will be a fell. No before pic.
  3. So had my first play with it today on a Silver Birch, not the most ideal tree and is was in a pretty bad way. I didn't particularly trust the anchor point so didn't try any redirects which would have side loaded the main anchor more than I liked. What I learned.....my hitch certainly needs to be shorter, not enough space between that and the wrench really. Tried LOTS which was a bit of a faff so will make up a chest harness for the next go.
  4. I didn't!! Thank goodness for arbtalk, you might have just saved my life Mark
  5. Reminds me, I have a home made haas. Its about 7 years old now, might give it away
  6. Been a good couple years since I used friction hitches, and haven't really been paying much attention to this market as a result. I'm guessing there must be some new stuff out that i'm not familiar with. What are you guys using these days? Will be looking for 8mm cord for a 3/2 VT
  7. I believe tomorrow I have a yew reduction, will be the perfect job for Srt
  8. i've watched a few instructional videos on youtube so it'll be fine
  9. climbed the odd tree here and there Mark. Oh you mean SRT? once. Seems pretty straight forward, im just gonna jump in head first i think.
  10. Not overly keen on the Haas, its pretty bulky. How are you guys storing this on your harness when not in use?
  11. Few goodies arrived today, going to give Srt a try tomorrow, probably exclusively for a couple of weeks to give it a fair trial
  12. Never grease my bars or sprockets, not sure if this really effects the wear or not. I certainly don't seem to get through an abundance of bars or sprockets
  13. Received these awesome pens in the post today, thanks Ian. Some of these will be awarded to deserved members of the Arbtalk community courtesy of Arborscape Woodcrafts some time in the near future
  14. Shiny! My job was cancelled so I had an office day thankfully!
